Chapter 239 — Can’t Let This Ruin Us

Chapter 239 — Can’t Let This Ruin Us

For a long time, he paced back and forth before the bedroom entrance. With a quiet exhale, Liam finally knocked.

"Come in," a weak voice said, muffled by the wooden door.

Liam pushed the door open. The room was rather dark, lit only by a single oil lamp.

Inside, Yusha sat on the edge of the bed, hands clasped in his lap. He looked smaller somehow, fragile in a way Liam had never noticed before. Was it because he had learned that this man now carried a life in him, like any other omegas?

This man was the kind of servant who never complained to his master—one of the rare people who silently obeyed his every order.

Yusha turned, his eyes widening when he saw who it was.

"Lord Liam..." Yusha’s voice trembled, his posture stiffening. "I-I didn’t expect you here." His throat turned dry.

Did he learn something?

His hand immediately drifted to his stomach, afraid of what could be the reason behind his master’s visit.

Liam shut the door behind him, leaning against it as if he needed the support.

"Yusha," he said quietly.

Silence stretched between them, thick and suffocating.

Finally, Liam moved, taking a few steps forward. His boots sounded too loud on the wooden floor, almost sending chills down the omega’s spine. Yusha’s mind raced, trying to figure out what was happening.

"You should have told me," he whispered.

Yusha lowered his head, fingers twisting in the blanket beside him.

"What do you mean?" He feigned ignorance although he had a doubt.

It seemed that Ren had ended up speaking although Yusha had told him not to.

"You know very well what I am talking about."

"I... didn’t want to cause trouble."

Liam let out a bitter laugh, sharp and disbelieving.

"Trouble? Yusha, you’re pregnant because of me. This isn’t something you should hide from me and tell everyone else."

Yusha flinched.

"I-I only told one person... I thought... you wouldn’t want it. And I didn’t want to burden you."

Liam clenched his jaw, pain flashing across his face—pain that sounded more like wounded pride than concern.

"I love you, damn it," he growled, voice breaking. "Do you think this is easy for me?"

Yusha’s head snapped up, eyes wide and wet. His lips trembled.

"I know... I am sorry..."

Liam looked away, inhaling sharply.

"Even so, I can’t risk my status. If they find out I had a child with a subordinate, a male omega, a prior slave, I—"

He cut himself off, his fists trembling. "Everything I worked for would be over."

Yusha shrank back, trembling.

"I am sorry..."

"Don’t—" Liam stepped forward suddenly, grabbing Yusha’s chin, forcing him to look up. "Don’t apologize to me."

Yusha’s eyes filled with tears.

"I didn’t mean for this to happen," he whispered, his gaze moving toward the corner of the room.

He simply couldn’t face him. Not after having hidden this from him all this time.

"I thought... maybe it wouldn’t matter. That... it would be better for you not to know."

Liam froze, breath catching.

"Fuck."

He cursed under his breath and let go, turning away as if distance could erase this mess.

"Forget it," he muttered, voice low and rough.

He should walk out.

He should tell Yusha to terminate the pregnancy.

He should protect his future.

Instead, he found himself leaning down, his forehead pressing against Yusha’s.

Yusha gasped softly, startled.

"I hate that I can’t choose you..." Liam’s voice was a broken whisper.

His hand cupped Yusha’s cheek, thumb brushing away a tear.

"...but I still want you."

And before either of them could think, Liam leaned closer, placing a soft kiss on Yusha’s lips—desperate, hungry, full of frustration and longing.

Yusha responded instantly, clutching at Liam’s uniform, pulling him closer as if afraid he would disappear.

For a moment, the world fell away.

No ranks.

No rules.

No consequences.

Just them.

When Liam finally pulled back, breath unsteady, his expression was strange.

"Yusha," he murmured, voice shaking. "What am I supposed to do with you...?"

"I don’t know," he whispered. "But I still... don’t regret it," Yusha gave a small, broken smile.

Liam leaned his forehead against Yusha’s again, eyes shut tight.

"...but you need to abort this child."

Yusha’s eyes widened, his fingers curling around the fabric of his sleeves. He forgot to breathe and the words hung in the air for a long time.

Abort?

"W-Why?" he stammered, pulling himself away, hand immediately covering his stomach.

"Because it will cause a scene. I told you before, right? I need to get the title of Marquis before I can even think of getting married. And if it is to someone like you, I need more power."

Yusha frowned.

"And... what does abortion have to do with that? You are free to do what you wish, My Lord. You don’t need to take responsibility for this child. But... I can’t lose it. It’s my sole family," he lowered his gaze, trying his best to control his trembling voice.

Liam’s expression darkened, frustration twisting his features. He didn’t expect his obedient servant to become rebellious upon carrying a child in his womb.

"Yusha... listen to yourself," he said quietly, almost tenderly—almost. "You can’t handle this."

Yusha’s breath hitched, eyes narrowing.

"I-I can. I will try—"

"No." Liam’s voice sharpened.

He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind Yusha’s ear with a gentleness that felt like a trap. Everything within the omega told him to run away but he couldn’t move a muscle. It was one of the rare moments when his strict master was being unexpectedly kind...

"You couldn’t even tell me you were pregnant. You panic over the smallest things. Look," he pointed at the servant’s shaky hands. "You are trembling."

His thumb traced along Yusha’s jaw, and Yusha froze, guilt flooding him.

Maybe he was too weak.

Maybe he was a burden.

"I just didn’t want to trouble you..." He repeated, voice firm but shaky.

Liam exhaled sharply, as if proving his point.

"Exactly. You hide things. You don’t think ahead. If this gets out, they will blame me for being irresponsible—and they will blame you for seducing someone above your status."

Yusha’s eyes widened, horror creeping in. What was he saying?

"S-Seduce?! I have never—"

"Did you not?" Liam tilted his head, tone soft but dangerousl. "Who was it who kept coming to my room? Who said yes when I asked him if I could fuck him? Who clung to me just now like you couldn’t breathe without me?"

Yusha’s lips parted, stunned.

He had gone to him... but only because Liam had asked.

Hadn’t he?

"I-I only did what you asked," he whispered, voice cracking.

Liam smiled bitterly, lifting his hand to cradle Yusha’s cheek.

"And that’s exactly why I can’t let this ruin us."

Us.

The word felt warm, hopeful—until the meaning settled.

Ruin him.

Ruin his status.

There was no us in this. It was all about his master.

Yusha swallowed, tears threatening again.

"But... it’s still my child."

Liam’s eyes flicked to Yusha’s stomach, something unreadable flashing there.

"It’s not just yours."

Yusha’s body stiffened.

"It’s mine," Liam continued, leaning closer.

"My blood. My future. And if I say it can’t exist right now, then it can’t."

A shiver ran down Yusha’s spine. Somehow, there was no kindness in his words although his voice was soft.

"So listen to me," Liam whispered, pressing a kiss to the omega’s cheek, voice filled with tenderness, "don’t make this harder for me."

Yusha shook, guilt crushing him. He was the one making things complicated. The one causing trouble for Liam—his saviour.

"I... I never wanted to make things hard for you."

"I know," Liam breathed, relief softening his shoulders. "You are good. You always try your best for me."

His lips brushed Yusha’s ear.

"That’s why you will do the right thing."

Yusha’s fingers tightened around his stomach instinctively.

Right thing...

And what exactly was that? Who was the one who knew what the right thing was to begin with?
