Chapter 299: Swift Action

Chapter 299: Swift Action

Later after the meeting, it was decided that Sharky will not be involved in capturing Magistrate Nick, let’s be done by the Imperial Envoys.

And he will focus on other important matters.

"If it is proven that he has colluded with the fiend races, we will have already detained him. Even if there is some uprising, it will not create a huge disturbance."

When they heard Sharky’s reasoning, Thomas and the others were convinced. "Sir Sharky is wise and has considered this from the bigger picture."

---

Thomas and the others split up and went their respective ways. They headed to their respective targets.

When they saw troop after troop of the Armed Escort Army move out, the spies from various parties who had been observing them knew that something major had happened. They all went back to report to their respective masters.

Thomas couldn’t be bothered with them. They were moving out so many people, so there was no way to hide their traces. What was more important right now was seeing who moved faster.

---

One group quickly arrived at the Civil Affairs Manor. They didn’t wait for the gatekeeper to inform those inside and charged straight in. They were the imperial envoy, so none of the guards of the Civil Affairs Manor dared to stop them. The guards could only back down one by one and stare at the vicious Armed Escort Army in alarm.

Magistrate Nick rushed over when he heard the news. When he saw what was happening, his heart sank. However, he still forced himself to calm down. He cupped his hands toward Thomas and asked, "Sir Thomas, may I ask what the meaning of this is?"

"You have committed a grave crime. Please follow us." Thomas remained expressionless. He gestured for someone to remove the other party’s official cap and arrest him.

Nick’s expression changed. He asked, "Why do you say that, Sir Thomas?"

Many guards rushed over to protect him. It was clear that after being the magistrate for so many years, he still had many trusted aides at his side.

Thomas narrowed his eyes and remarked, "Could it be that Sir Nick plans to go against the Imperial Envoy’s orders?"

"I do not dare." Nick’s fleshy face trembled. He asked, "But Sir Thomas needs to at least tell me what happened, right?"

Thomas gave him a deep look. He said seriously, "Someone has reported that you have colluded with the fiend races, smuggling ki stones and all kinds of military materials for many years."

An uproar broke out when those words were spoken. That was a great crime, sufficient to have one’s entire clan eradicated! The surrounding guards all turned around to look at Nick, their eyes filled with shock and doubt.

"Slander! This is absolutely slander!" Nick’s entire body was shaking intensely as he exclaimed, "Sir Thomas, you must not believe the evil schemes of a vile character!"

Thomas said with an indifferent expression, "I have my own discretion and will investigate the truth earnestly. I will not let down the innocent, but I will not let the guilty go either. If Sir Nick is innocent, we will let Sir Nick go afterward, and we will offer our humble apology. However, I must trouble Sir Nick to come with us for now."

After saying that, he gave Allen a look. Allen understood his intent and personally moved along with some men.

Nick was a powerful magistrate. If he really rebelled, the other guards wouldn’t be enough to detain him. As such, Allen walked over to Nick’s side, on guard against any acts of desperation.

Even though several guards had already subconsciously lowered their blades, there were still some trusted aides present. When they saw that, they all stepped forward, as if as long as Nick gave the orders, they would attack.

Nick waved his hand, gesturing for them to not act recklessly. He said, "Fine; I trust Sir Thomas’s integrity, that he is definitely not the kind of person to frame someone. I am willing to come with you and cooperate with your investigation." After speaking, he removed his official cap from his head.

"I apologize for offending Sir Nick." Allen reached out his hand and swiftly sealed several major acupoints, preventing the other party’s ki from flowing. Nick was now no different from a normal person.

"Sir Allen is still so young. Your cultivation truly leaves me amazed." Nick looked at him in shock. Even though he had given up on resisting, for better or for worse, he was a powerful cultivator himself. Those with lower cultivation couldn’t possibly break through his defenses, let alone instantly seal up his cultivation.

"Sir Nick overpraises me. It was because of your cooperation." Allen smiled.

Nick’s expression finally eased a bit. At least this fellow knew how to talk and gave him some dignity.

Thomas had Nick brought back to the temporary residence. He also locked up all of the other officials who were related to the case, as well as Nick’s trusted aides.

News of the major event in the Civil Affairs Manor quickly spread through all of Cloudcenter City. The officials in the Military Affairs Manor were all incredibly agitated and anxious.

"Commander-In-Chief, Thomas dared to even arrest Nick. Doesn’t this mean he dares to capture you as well?"

Christ’s expression remained calm. Only after sipping on some tea did he say, "He does not dare. No one needs to worry; everything is still within my grasp."

...

In the Frost Clan, an exceptional beauty sat half-reclined in her seat. She sighed in amazement when she heard what Maid Elsa told her, remarking.

"It was a good plan, now, after this Cloudcenter territory will become calm."

"Yes, this time, I will clean all of the pest in one sweep," Sharky nodded with her.

Maid Elsa asked, "Master, why would you call them the pest, they are human beings."

"Maybe they are human beings, but when they dirty my territory, they all are the pests in my eyes, which needs to be clean."

"Should, we also prepared about the Daniel Merchant Group." Alina asked him.

"We will see about it." Sharky replied.

---

In King George’s hidden courtyard, when Leon reported what had happened, Ethan sneered and said, "That Thomas is quite brave. He doesn’t seem to be scared of a revolt at all. Keep an eye on him and see if he might need your help."

---

At the Daniel Merchant Group, Jason and several other managers politely greeted Tanya. Jason asked, "First miss, do you think this matter is actually targeting us?"

"That’s not entirely impossible." Tanya looked a bit worried. That person had come all the way to get something from their bank, and then had immediately captured the magistrate. He really is the bane of my existence!

"I am worried that this matter will quickly implicate our Daniel Merchant Group." Jason had also seen Cedric’s assistant fetch an item from them. He also couldn’t avoid that possibility.

"Who do you all think is the one making mischief behind the scenes?" Tanya asked with a frown.

"Could it be Pegasus Merchant Group?" Jason mused. "They have always wanted to take our place."

"Not even ten Pegasus Merchant Groups could compare to us. The only one who’s of any threat is the one backing them." Tanya got up and looked out the window. She asked, "Pegasus Merchant Group’s boss Carl, have you investigated his background yet?"

Jason and the others nodded. "That person’s background is mysterious, and his cultivation is high as well. We were unable to find any concrete proof. However, according to our analysis, we suspect he might have some kind of a connection with the Devil Sect."

"The Devil Sect?" Tanya harrumphed. "Those guys aren’t good at anything else, but they sure are good at messing things up. Send some men to keep an eye on the Devil Sect’s operations in Cloudcenter Commandery. Report to me as soon as anything happens."

"Understood!" Qian Dong quickly left to give out the orders.

Tanya then gave the other managers their tasks. When she saw how deeply worried they were, her usual sweet smile returned to her face. She said, "Everyone, please don’t be worried. What kinds of hard times haven’t our Daniel Merchant Group experienced in the last few centuries? Our current situation is nothing."

The managers all began to smile, replying, "The first miss is right. It has always been us who has bullied others; when has anyone else ever taken advantage of us? It would be one thing if this matter has nothing to do with us, but if they want to frame us, there is no way we can stand that!"

Tanya smiled and nodded. She waved her hand, indicating that they could all return to their respective posts. However, she remained in the room to think to herself.

---

Meanwhile, Thomas brought Nick and the others back to the temporary residence. Then, he personally interrogated them about the smuggling matter.

Nick obviously denied everything. He claimed to have been framed. They were all old foxes, so they naturally knew how to deal with such interrogation tactics.

They were interrogated for a long time, but Thomas didn’t obtain any useful information. He could only suspend the interrogation for the time being. He left the prison cells and went outside to discuss things with Sharky.

"Does uncle think he’s innocent?" Sharky asked. Thomas’s face darkened and he shook his head. Sharky was surprised, asking, "The interrogation bore results?"

"No," Thomas replied. "That fellow is incredibly cunning and will not reveal any openings. Unfortunately, that is precisely his biggest flaw. If he truly were innocent, he would definitely work with me to investigate who the true criminal was, and not seem so worried about some meaningless things."

Sharky nodded, "Good, then uncle please take him from here, and submit them to the royal court. While I cleared the territory here."

After saying that, he exists from there.

Thomas nodded, but still he was not able to tell him that they did not have any valid evidence against Nick, so they were not able to leave here for now.

"Things are quite difficult now." Thomas murmured with a bitter smile. "I was still hoping that someone really had framed Nick at first, because we would then at least have some people from the court on our side. But seeing as there is something wrong with even him, it proves that Cloudcenter Commandery’s court is already rotten to the core. We are completely on our own here."

Thomas had every reason to feel the way he was feeling. Even though they had brought a several-hundred-men strong Armed Escort Army, a force respectable in its own right, it was nothing before a real army. He had been hoping to cooperate with the Civil Affairs Manor’s troops to keep the Military Affairs Manor in check, but now, not even the Civil Affairs Manor could be relied on.

"Let’s wait until Allen and Brock capture the others first. They definitely won’t be as calm as Nick. As long as one person speaks, the rest will be easily dealt with." Thomas consoled himself.

Nick’s identity was special, so they couldn’t use torture, but there were no such restrictions for the others.

As long as they had enough proof, they would have a proper reason to punish Nick. Then, they would take the chance to gain military leadership of the Civil Affairs Manor. No one would be able to criticize their actions at that point.

"I hope things work out that way." Thomas knew that was the best result as well. But his brow quickly furrowed. "Why haven’t they returned yet?"

Just then, there was a disturbance outside. Soon afterward, someone reported, "Sir Allen and Brock have returned."
