Chapter 39 : Bottoms Up!
Chapter 39 : Bottoms Up!
"Excuse me."
Arriving at the entrance of Class 101, Xifeng tried her best to appear nonchalant.
The classroom was in session, and everyone's attention was drawn to this report, looking toward the white figure at the door trying to hide herself.
The feeling of being watched made Xifeng very uncomfortable. She scanned around and found Bei Yaoyue in the middle of the third row. Bei Yaoyue was looking at her with surprise and confusion.
"What can I do for you, student?" the teacher asked.
"I have an urgent matter and need to find Student Bei Yaoyue." Xifeng smiled with difficulty. "May she come out for a moment?"
If possible, she didn't want to find Bei Yaoyue in such an attention-grabbing way, but it was class time and she had no choice.
Bei Yaoyue had some doubts initially, but when she noticed Xifeng's eyes faintly glowing with crimson light, her expression changed. Without waiting for the teacher's affirmative response, she quickly stood up and walked out under everyone's gaze.
"What's wrong with you?" Bei Yaoyue asked somewhat anxiously. Xifeng's condition looked abnormal no matter how you looked at it.
"Blood......" Xifeng kept breathing heavily to relieve the discomfort in her body. "I need blood......"
She felt her current craving for blood was beyond what substitutes like spicy blood curd could solve. She needed real, pure human blood.
"......Blood?" Bei Yaoyue was stunned for a moment, then understood what Xifeng meant.
She looked around, confirmed no one was nearby, then decisively extended her right arm.
"Go ahead."
"No......" Looking hesitant, Xifeng shook her head with difficulty. "I can't drink your blood anymore......"
"I'm fine. It's just a little blood—it'll regenerate quickly."
"No...... think of another way, please?" Xifeng showed a rare stubborn expression.
This made Bei Yaoyue fall into a daze, because this determined expression that seemed to never give up was so similar to her childhood self.
Understanding that Xifeng was also concerned about her health, Bei Yaoyue couldn't bear to force her against her will, so she began seriously thinking if there were other ways to obtain blood.
"I've got it!"
Bei Yaoyue quickly took out her phone and dialed a number.
"Uncle Li, I...... now...... help me...... mm...... go over......"
Consciousness became heavier and heavier. Xifeng could barely hear what Bei Yaoyue was saying in her deliberately lowered voice.
"Hold on." Bei Yaoyue supported Xifeng's swaying body. "Just twenty more minutes."
"Twenty minutes...... huh......" Xifeng's lips curved into a bitter smile. Whether she could hold on for twenty more minutes wasn't up to her.
"Come with me."
Like this, Xifeng was supported by Bei Yaoyue as they walked toward the school exit.
"Where are you two going?"
At the school gate, the guard blocked their path: "It's still class time."
"My sister is sick. I need to take her to the hospital."
The guard looked at the girl beside her with her head down. He could see she was pale, in poor condition, weak, and looking like she was about to die. It didn't seem like she was lying.
"Do you have a leave slip?" The guard scratched his head.
Rules were rules—he had no choice. If he didn't follow regulations, he'd be the one getting scolded.
"It's urgent. No time to write a leave slip." Bei Yaoyue's expression darkened, her voice suddenly cold. "If your obstruction causes problems with her health, can you take responsibility?"
Intimidated by Bei Yaoyue's sudden burst of presence, the guard instinctively stepped back. He hesitated for a while, then finally sighed and said helplessly: "Fine, fine, hurry up and go. Treating illness is important."
Better safe than sorry. If he let them pass, at worst he'd get criticized by leadership. But if something happened because he didn't let them pass, that would be much more serious.
Flagging down a taxi, Bei Yaoyue helped Xifeng get in. After a short five-minute ride, they reached their destination.
"Where is this?"
Xifeng looked up to see a pure white building with red characters at the top: "Tianshui District Second People's Hospital."
"A hospital!?" These two words made Xifeng suddenly alert, stopping dead in her tracks. "Why are we at a hospital!?"
If there was anywhere Xifeng most feared going right now, it was definitely a hospital.
The reason was simple—if treated at a hospital, a considerable portion would require blood tests and other examination procedures, and as a vampire, she would almost certainly be exposed.
Understanding what Xifeng was afraid of, Bei Yaoyue gently consoled: "Don't worry, trust me. Everything will be fine."
"Ugh......" After hesitating, Xifeng could only nod. At this point, she could only choose to trust Bei Yaoyue.
Bei Yaoyue didn't take her to the outpatient department but headed toward the administrative area. Finally, they arrived at the director's office.
"Uncle Li." Bei Yaoyue knocked on the director's office door.
"Come in."
"Wait here for me." Bei Yaoyue instructed Xifeng, then pushed open the sandalwood door and went in.
"Bei Yaoyue, long time no see." The balding man called Uncle Li showed a warm smile, standing up from his desk. "Last time I saw you was two years ago, right? After all this time, you've grown into a young lady."
"Mm."
True to her nature, Bei Yaoyue didn't like making unnecessary small talk and got straight to the point: "Uncle Li, did you get the thing?"
"Got it."
Understanding Bei Yaoyue's personality, Uncle Li didn't mind her directness. He pointed to an item on the nearby coffee table.
It was a frozen medical blood bag, seemingly just taken from cold storage, emanating wisps of chill in the air.
"Thank you, Uncle Li." Bei Yaoyue said sincerely. After all, Uncle Li had done her such a big favor—a thank you was warranted.
But when she reached for the blood bag, Uncle Li stopped her. Looking at Bei Yaoyue's confused expression, he said seriously: "This isn't a big deal. I won't ask what you're using it for, but you must promise me you won't use it for anything illegal before I can give it to you."
Breathing a sigh of relief, Bei Yaoyue quickly nodded: "I promise."
Taking the blood bag out of the office, Bei Yaoyue quickly pulled Xifeng to the bathroom and into a stall.
"This is...... a medical blood bag?"
"Mm, I asked Uncle Li to help me get it from the blood bank. He's the director of this hospital and has a good relationship with my dad." Bei Yaoyue opened the blood bag's needle port and handed it to Xifeng.
With the longed-for blood right in front of her, Xifeng eagerly took a big gulp but nearly spat it out immediately. She quickly clamped her mouth shut and forced herself to swallow.
"It tastes awful!"
Xifeng said with a miserable expression. This frozen blood with anticoagulants tasted like bitter gourd juice that had been refrigerated for days with added mustard, five-spice powder, and MSG—indescribably awful.
"Can't help it. Just bear with it for now."
Seeing Xifeng's bitter expression, Bei Yaoyue couldn't help laughing, feeling somewhat schadenfreude for some reason.
"Ugh......"
Making a dissatisfied sound, Xifeng looked at the blood bag that still had at least 3/4 remaining. Gritting her teeth and steeling her heart with the spirit of a warrior cutting off his own arm, she grabbed the blood bag and, like drinking alcohol, tilted her head back and downed the remaining blood in one go.
"Cough! Cough cough!"
Because she drank too fast, she nearly choked on the blood. The indescribable taste lingered, constantly stimulating her taste buds and causing waves of nausea.
Fortunately, though this blood tasted awful, it had the intended effect. Nourished by the blood, the bloodthirsty impulse quickly receded from Xifeng's mind.
With her highly tense nerves suddenly relaxing, Xifeng could no longer maintain consciousness. Her vision went black as she fainted.
