Chapter 225 : Milk Candy
Chapter 225 : Milk Candy
Ever since that day when Bei Yaoyue first went out for business entertainment, she had been going out more and more frequently, often going out for business meals every few days and coming back drunk. Xifeng saw it all and naturally felt heartbroken.
They say alcohol is liquid food—the more you drink, the younger you get. But everything needs moderation. Moderate drinking is indeed beneficial to health, but once you exceed limits, the harm to the body is enormous. The most obvious point is liver damage.
Alcohol needs to be metabolized through the liver. When large amounts of alcohol flood the body, the liver bears the brunt.
Xifeng figured that Bei Yaoyue had been burning the midnight oil drawing commissions every day before, so her liver function might already have some minor issues. If she drank excessively on top of that and developed problems, what would they do?
The body is the foundation of revolution—health is more important than anything. Since becoming a light-sensitive weakling who was extremely fragile, Xifeng felt even more deeply about the importance of health.
When Xifeng suggested that Bei Yaoyue drink less, she only got a perfunctory response—"I know what I'm doing, don't worry."
Xifeng didn't believe Bei Yaoyue really knew what she was doing. Would someone who truly had it under control get drunk enough to be carried back by Ye Zhenzhen every time?
But she also understood she couldn't change the mind of the always proud and stubborn Bei Yaoyue, so she could only sigh deeply and set the matter aside for now.
After finishing cleaning the house, Xifeng knocked on Bei Yaoyue's bedroom door. After getting permission, she pushed the door open and walked in, casually sitting on the bedside and smiling: "Bei Yaoyue, let's get a cat!"
"Hm?" Bei Yaoyue's brow moved slightly as she leaned back in her chair. "Why do you suddenly want a cat? Didn't you say before that cats were too much trouble?"
Bei Yaoyue had previously suggested getting a cat, but Xifeng had refused at the time.
"You have the nerve to bring that up—it's all your fault." Xifeng reached out to poke Bei Yaoyue's abdomen, forcing her to quickly push her chair back a few steps. "You're always running out now, gone for half a day at a time. The house is empty with just me alone—how lonely is that? If I have a cat, at least I'll have company, right?"
"How about I buy you some toys instead?" Bei Yaoyue rarely showed a devilish bad smile. "That way you won't be lonely when I'm not here?"
"Get lost." Xifeng blushed and cursed. She naturally knew what kind of "toys" Bei Yaoyue was referring to. "Stop joking around, I'm serious."
"Then let's get one." Bei Yaoyue naturally had no reason to refuse this request. "As long as you don't mind the trouble, I'm too lazy to take care of it anyway."
"I'm much more diligent than you. Just think about who does all the housework." Xifeng pursed her lips and glared at Bei Yaoyue irritably.
Since they had made the decision, there was no time to waste. After lunch, the two of them brought Ye Zhenzhen along to a very famous pet store in the city center. After an afternoon of careful selection, they finally chose a three-month-old purebred female Ragdoll cat.
The three-month-old kitten wasn't very big—excluding the tail, it was only about as long as a mineral water bottle. It had pure white fur like snow velvet, but there were brown patches around its eyes and ears. Its sapphire blue eyes sparkled brightly, lively and brilliant. Holding it felt light and soft, just like a stuffed toy doll meant for cuddling while sleeping.
Holding the Ragdoll cat lovingly, Xifeng stroked its fur while smiling: "Look at its eyes—they're so much like yours."
Ragdoll cats were nicknamed fairy cats, famous for being beautiful and cute. This particular Ragdoll was exceptionally adorable, especially those diamond-like brilliant blue eyes. Xifeng had fallen for it at first sight.
Bei Yaoyue glanced at Xifeng and retorted mercilessly: "Look at its fur—it's so much like yours."
"?"
"Have you thought of a name?" Bei Yaoyue watched with interest as Xifeng happily played with the Ragdoll cat.
Two cute things coming together brought double the happiness, making Bei Yaoyue nod repeatedly.
"Meow~"
Seemingly extremely comfortable from Xifeng's petting, the Ragdoll let out a soft, drawn-out meow. Due to its young age, its voice still carried a milky quality.
Xifeng thought for a moment, then asked back: "Do you have any ideas?"
"You're asking me?" Bei Yaoyue's index finger lightly tapped the armrest. After thinking briefly, she said: "How about Little White?"
If you asked Bei Yaoyue to come up with names, this was probably the best she could manage.
"No, no, no, Little White sounds so ugly. Any other suggestions?" Xifeng immediately broke out in a cold sweat. Never mind how tacky the name Little White was, it didn't even sound like a cat's name—Little White was more commonly used for pet dogs.
"How about Big White?" Bei Yaoyue suggested again.
"......" The corner of Xifeng's eye twitched hard. "I'll think of one myself."
Holding the Ragdoll cat up to examine it from all angles, Xifeng continuously searched through the vocabulary in her mind. Suddenly, inspiration struck and she had made her decision.
"How about Milk Candy?"
"Milk Candy?" After a pause, Bei Yaoyue immediately looked at Xifeng with a strange expression. "Isn't milk candy something you eat? Why that name?"
"Because it's almost pure white all over. Don't you think when it curls up, it looks just like a piece of White Rabbit milk candy?" Xifeng placed the Ragdoll cat on her lap, showing Bei Yaoyue its fluffy snow-white body. "Plus, Milk Candy sounds pretty cute as a name, doesn't it?"
"......"
"If you don't like Milk Candy, we could call it Pudding or Ice Cream. Or maybe Cotton Candy, White Chocolate, Milkshake—I think they all sound good. If not, we could also call it..."
...Why are they all sweets?
Bei Yaoyue couldn't help but complain inwardly. Although she felt there was something indescribably strange about giving a pet a food name, she decided not to voice any more objections and said: "Let's go with Milk Candy then."
Compared to the increasingly weird names that followed, Bei Yaoyue felt the initially mentioned Milk Candy was more acceptable.
"Good, then starting today, you'll be called Milk Candy." Xifeng smiled as she spoke to the Milk Candy in her arms.
"Meow?" Milk Candy tilted its head, clearly unable to understand the meaning of Xifeng's words.
To keep a cat, just buying the cat wasn't enough—they also needed to buy a bunch of things like cat food, cat litter, and toys for the cat to play with.
"Should we buy a cage?" Bei Yaoyue asked. After all, they lived in an apartment, and the kitten didn't understand boundaries. Having it jumping around the house all day would be quite troublesome. Sometimes using a cage to contain it would actually be a better choice.
"No." Xifeng immediately gave a negative answer. "Cats are so cute—why would we lock them up? Cages are so small—don't you think that's cruel?"
