Chapter 117 : Words from the Heart
Chapter 117 : Words from the Heart
"What are you thinking about?" Seeing Bei Yaoyue deep in thought throughout their walk, Xifeng couldn't help but ask.
She was forcefully sucking on her nearly empty milk tea cup, the compressed paper cup making "crack crack" sounds, but no matter how hard she tried, there were always a few pieces of coconut jelly stubbornly stuck to the bottom that she couldn't suck up.
Annoyed, Xifeng simply threw the cup into the trash can, her exasperated appearance extremely cute.
Faced with Xifeng's question, Bei Yaoyue remained silent, as if she hadn't heard due to being lost in thought.
"Hey, I'm asking you a question." Xifeng leaned close to Bei Yaoyue's face and shouted displeasedly.
Bei Yaoyue completely lacked even the most basic respect for others. Who knew how her parents had raised her... Oh wait, when her parents should have been teaching her, Bei Yaoyue wasn't around. Never mind then.
"I'm thinking that person probably isn't simple."
"That person?" Xifeng tilted her head. "You mean the man who was with Bai He?"
"Right, he most likely has some power behind him."
"Why do you say that?"
"After being rejected by Bai He, he didn't give up directly but planned to force himself on her. So afterward, unless he killed Bai He to silence her..."
Hearing this, Xifeng couldn't help but shiver. Murder to silence? Wasn't that a bit too scary?
"...otherwise he would definitely be taken to court by Bai He. For him to choose to do this, he's either an idiot with a broken brain, or... someone whose wealth or power is strong enough to override the law."
Just like Bei Yaochen.
"Really?" Casting a doubtful glance, Xifeng was skeptical of Bei Yaoyue's reasoning. "If he wasn't afraid of legal punishment, why would he be scared away by the police?"
"He most likely wasn't afraid of the police, but just didn't want complications." Bei Yaoyue held her chin in serious contemplation. "Since doing bad things had already been discovered and he couldn't continue, it's definitely better to avoid unnecessary trouble."
"..." Xifeng was stunned. "According to what you're saying, if that man really has the ability to operate outside the law, wouldn't Bai He be in great danger?"
"Not necessarily." Bei Yaoyue shrugged. "Maybe he really was just a madman who made an impulsive choice in the heat of the moment. Don't worry about it needlessly."
The implication being: your worrying won't do jack shit anyway.
After speaking, Bei Yaoyue closed her mouth, seemingly not wanting to continue this topic. Seeing this, Xifeng didn't press further, but her brow furrowed deeply.
How could she not worry? This concerned one of a girl's... most important things.

"So... why didn't you tell me beforehand that we were having dinner with Mom and Dad?" Complaining quietly, Xifeng avoided the gazes of Bei Yaochen and Kisaragi Ichika sitting across from her, feeling like she was sitting on pins and needles.
After what happened last night, Xifeng hadn't figured out how to face the two of them, yet Bei Yaoyue had somehow tricked her into coming here.
"You didn't ask." Bei Yaoyue looked completely innocent.
Xifeng was momentarily speechless. She indeed hadn't asked, because she hadn't expected that after just one day, Bei Yaoyue would already be colluding with the enemy. This surrender speed rivaled that of France.
At a time like this, when Bei Yaochen invited the two of them to dinner, what other possibility could there be besides holding them accountable?!
But after secretly observing with her peripheral vision for a while, Xifeng discovered the atmosphere didn't seem as tense as she had imagined. Bei Yaoyue was expressionless as always, Bei Yaochen wore a calm, gentle smile, and Kisaragi Ichika had her characteristic gentle smile at the corners of her mouth—exactly the same as when Xifeng had first arrived at the Bei Yao household last night.
The scene was so harmonious that Xifeng was somewhat confused. Had nothing from last night actually happened? Was it all her imagination? Was she the only one who remembered that incident?
Xifeng suddenly understood—it was the Crimson King. She had used the Crimson King!
Since no one mentioned last night's events, Xifeng naturally wouldn't bring it up herself. A dinner with a very subtle atmosphere quickly ended amid the four people's small talk.
After eating and drinking their fill, Bei Yaochen gave Kisaragi Ichika a meaningful look. Understanding, Kisaragi Ichika stood up and beckoned to Xifeng: "Xifeng, come, step outside with Mom for a moment."
Obviously Bei Yaochen had something to say to Bei Yaoyue alone. Xifeng tactfully got up and followed her out.
"Yueyue."
Bei Yaochen softly called Bei Yaoyue's nickname, stood up and walked to the window, clasping his hands behind his back as he gazed at the bright moon in the night sky. In a solemn voice, he said: "When you were still in your mother's womb, you became the only goal for the rest of our lives. Everything we did was to provide you with better living conditions and environment.
"When you were little, your mother and I treated you as the apple of our eye, afraid you'd melt if we held you in our mouths, afraid you'd break if we held you in our hands. When you first called out 'Daddy' and 'Mommy,' that was the most unforgettable joy of my entire life.
"Later, because your mother and I were busy with our careers and neglected you, you ran away from home. We spent several days finding you, but you resolutely left. That was the first time in my life I truly understood what heartbreak felt like—it was the most deeply etched pain of my entire existence."
At this point, Bei Yaochen sighed lightly, his voice becoming somewhat deeper.
"I was filled with both hatred and regret, but it was too late. I could only watch your back grow more distant, while you used your back to silently tell me: no need to chase.
"At that moment, I finally understood that you would grow up someday, that you would eventually reach your own domain, spread your wings and soar high. All we as parents could do was accompany your growth, pave the way for you, help you mount your horse—and after that, the path of life would be up to you alone.
"You've grown up now. I believe you must have made your choice after careful consideration, so whatever choices and decisions you make, we will always stand behind you and support you.
"If you fly high, we'll cheer you on. If you unfortunately fall, we'll support you to continue soaring forward, until the day you truly no longer need us."
This entire speech was given by Bei Yaochen without any prior preparation—completely improvised, saying whatever came to mind—yet every sentence came from the heart, every word stained with blood and tears.
After pausing for a moment, he continued: "Xifeng is a good girl. I believe she is the most precious treasure heaven has given to you and our family. You have no blood relation—isn't this also a heaven-sent opportunity? So... cherish each other.
"She is your sister, but she is also my daughter. If you dare let her suffer even the slightest grievance, I absolutely won't let you off easily. Do you hear me?"
As Bei Yaochen's last syllable fell, the entire private room suddenly went quiet, as if someone had pressed a mute button. After a long while, a voice with chaotic breathing finally responded faintly.
"I heard you."
Bei Yaochen let out a long sigh of relief, his voice becoming much more tired: "Promise me you'll definitely be happy... both you and Xifeng."
"Alright."
