Chapter 101 : Care
Chapter 101 : Care
"Dad, Mom, Sister Luo." Xifeng greeted the three people very obediently, following the silent Bei Yaoyue as she sat across from Bei Yaochen. Everyone seemed to be used to this, and no one spoke up to scold Bei Yaoyue.
Even they themselves didn't notice that they had come downstairs hand in hand, their movements completely natural, but this was clearly seen by Kisaragi Ichika and Bei Yaochen.
The gentle and virtuous Kisaragi Ichika didn't think much of it—two teenage girls, and sisters at that, holding hands because they had a good relationship was perfectly normal.
But Bei Yaochen was different. He had encountered far more people than Kisaragi Ichika, so naturally his ability to read people's expressions was much higher.
His expression remained unchanged, still wearing a kind smile, but his mind had already begun to ponder deeply.
The last time he went to visit Xifeng, he had keenly sensed that the atmosphere between the two wasn't quite right. The current situation undoubtedly deepened his suspicions. His two daughters... surely they wouldn't... would they?
"You must be Xifeng, right?" Bei Yaoluo looked Xifeng up and down curiously, her eyes full of amazement. "I hear Auntie praising how extremely beautiful you are all the time. I've always scoffed at it, but now I see that Auntie really wasn't exaggerating at all."
This was the first time she had seen such an exquisite girl, like a porcelain doll that had been carefully carved for a long time. She couldn't help thinking how wonderful it would be if she had such a cute daughter.
The only thing she found somewhat strange was that she felt Xifeng's voice was a bit familiar, as if she had heard it somewhere before, but she couldn't remember where.
"Sister Luo, you're too kind. You're no less beautiful yourself." Xifeng smiled awkwardly. When praised for being beautiful, should she be happy or sad?
Xifeng also looked Bei Yaoluo over. She had wavy long hair with golden highlights, giving off a bit of a rebellious girl vibe at first glance, which quite fit the aesthetic of those white people. She looked to be in her early twenties.
She remembered that Bei Yaoyue had indeed mentioned that Bei Yaoluo was studying at university abroad, so this age made sense.
"Hurry up and eat, the food will get cold if you don't eat soon." Bei Yaochen said with a smile, then took the lead in picking up his chopsticks to eat. After all, he was the head of the Bei Yao family, and if he didn't start, no one dared to pick up their chopsticks first.
"Eat more meat, look how thin you are." Kisaragi Ichika picked up two spicy crawfish and put them on Xifeng's plate. "We're all family here, don't be polite."
Xifeng's frail constitution, formed by her death-seeking requests, naturally appeared to others as being caused by malnutrition. Xifeng couldn't help feeling a headache. Although she really wanted to explain, she had no way to start.
Looking at the bright red crawfish on her plate, still dripping with spicy oil, Xifeng gave a dry laugh. Eating it wasn't good, but not eating it wasn't good either.
This was Kisaragi Ichika's kind gesture. If she didn't eat it, it would be awkward, but if she did eat it... she was afraid she'd be made to cry from the spiciness—strictly speaking, cry from the pain.
"Xifeng can't handle spicy food, she can't eat such spicy dishes." Bei Yaoyue came to her rescue from the side, taking the crawfish from Xifeng's plate.
She knew that although Xifeng couldn't obtain the energy needed for life activities from ordinary food, she still possessed the taste sensations of sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and salty. She also clearly knew that Xifeng was afraid of pain, so seeing Xifeng's hesitant expression, she could roughly guess the situation.
"Yes, if I eat spicy food my stomach will hurt..." Xifeng quickly followed up on Bei Yaoyue's words, while shooting Bei Yaoyue a grateful look.
"I see, then here, eat more of this." After speaking, Kisaragi Ichika put two large pieces of braised pork on Xifeng's plate.
"You don't need to trouble yourself, I can serve myself if I want to eat." Xifeng said somewhat embarrassedly, thinking that Kisaragi Ichika's maternal instincts had overflowed to this extent. Just how cold must Bei Yaoyue usually be toward the couple...
Xifeng picked up the piece of braised pork and brought it to her mouth, but didn't expect that the braised pork was cooked too tender. When she applied force, the meat broke directly in the middle, and the scalding pork belly immediately fell onto her bare thigh.
"Uwah!" The burning pain from the scalding meat made Xifeng cry out, causing her to panic momentarily.
Kisaragi Ichika was stunned for a moment and prepared to get up to help, but Bei Yaoyue beat her to it.
Bei Yaoyue frowned, quickly pulled out a tissue from the dining table, bent down and carefully picked up the piece of braised pork, throwing it aside. She pulled out several more tissues and wiped the oil stains clean, being extremely meticulous.
With an embarrassed smile on her face, Xifeng could only let Bei Yaoyue bend over her, wiping her leg back and forth.
If it were just the two of them, Xifeng naturally wouldn't care about anything, but right now, there were three other people watching from across the table...
It was really embarrassing.
"Does it hurt?" Bei Yaoyue asked softly. "Are you burned?"
"I'm fine." Xifeng shook her head.
"How can you be so careless?" Bei Yaoyue said in a slightly reproachful tone. "Be more careful next time."
"...Mm."
Sitting back in her seat, Kisaragi Ichika looked at Bei Yaoyue, who had been bustling about because Xifeng got burned, with a face full of relief. She leaned toward Bei Yaochen and said quietly: "It seems finding someone to keep Yueyue company was the right decision. Look, Yueyue has learned to care for others now."
Bei Yaochen's expression froze slightly, then he hid all the thoughts in his heart and smiled: "Yes, Yueyue is gradually growing up."
It's just that the direction of this growth seemed somewhat different from what he had expected, and had even... deviated from the proper path.
As a successful businessman, Bei Yaochen had always been very accurate at reading people, but he really hoped he would misjudge someone for once this time.
"I was worried before that with Yueyue's personality, Xifeng might have a hard time getting along with her, but now seeing how well the two sisters get along, I'm relieved." Chuckling, Kisaragi Ichika patted Bei Yaochen's hand. "I really hope their relationship can stay this good forever."
"Yes." Bei Yaochen smiled lightly, hiding all his emotions and thoughts extremely well.
"Your Sister Luo just came back today, why don't you two stay here tonight?" Kisaragi Ichika suggested. "Tomorrow morning we'll have Little Li drive you home."
Xifeng actually didn't mind either way, so she looked toward Bei Yaoyue, indicating for Bei Yaoyue to make the decision.
"Alright." Bei Yaoyue nodded. Anyway, she had already decided not to make any moves on Xifeng for the next few days, so where they stayed really made no difference.
"Will you two sleep in the same room?" Kisaragi Ichika asked. She felt that if the two sisters had a good relationship, sleeping in the same bed would be fine too.
"Our house has so many rooms, it wouldn't be appropriate to squeeze into one room." Bei Yaochen interrupted Kisaragi Ichika, then turned to Uncle Chen and said: "Uncle Chen, arrange for some people to clean up a room for Xifeng, the vacant guest room next to Yueyue's room."
"Yes." Uncle Chen acknowledged and turned to walk out of the kitchen.
Since the head of the household had already spoken, Kisaragi Ichika naturally couldn't say anything more.
