Chapter 457. Detention Measures
Chapter 457. Detention Measures
The mountain path went smoothly, thanks to Lann and their efforts over the past week being quite effective.
There were no vampiric creatures lurking in the shadows, nor were there any bloody remnants scattered on the snowy white ground.
Guided by Ged, they arrived at the confinement measure designed by Anahad.
This was a valley, with three peaks surrounding a small depression trapped at the mountain’s base.
"Wow..."
When the full appearance of the small depression appeared before the three on the hillside, Lann licked his thin lips, touched his forehead, and sighed.
"Alright."
"Whatever’s inside, it’s definitely not easy to deal with."
The hollow in the mountain had obvious artificial imprints.
A circle of roads spiraled down like a vortex, wide enough for just one person to pass, with the ground laid with simple wooden sticks for anti-slip purposes.
The midday sun cast down from the sky, occasionally illuminating a few wooden pillars on the narrow road, with tattered cloth fluttering in the wind.
In the ample light, the place didn’t feel eerie, but rather carried a sense of desolate decay.
As soon as they stepped from the hillside into the spiraling path downwards, the necklaces on the necks of Lann and Ged began to make a "shak-kala-kak" sound.
The two Roaring Bear Head Necklaces began to sway rhythmically.
The Chaos Magic Power here was abundant.
In terms of quantity, it could even rival the solstice of other regions.
The wind roamed between the mountain hollows, whistling against those tattered fragments of cloth.
Lann surveyed the dead silent landscape around, moving between four or five positions under the confused gazes of Ged and Regis.
The distances between each position were tens of meters apart.
On his retina, streams of data flowed like waterfalls, refreshing continuously.
"Based on the fluctuation degree of the badge’s vibrations, through accurate calculation, the current Chaos Magic Power flow map of the environment is as follows."
Mentos quantified the vibration severity of the badge, and used this as a basis to derive a formula and figure in combination with Lann’s spatial position.
Finally presenting it to the subject.
The image that appeared on Lann’s retina was akin to a funnel spiraling downwards, similar to the wooden path beneath his feet.
"Anahad drew the power of the surrounding three peaks here, using the power of the mountains to suppress something."
Lann returned to Regis and Ged’s side, raising his eyebrows, he gestured with his fingers, forming a gradually narrowing circle, and spoke to them.
"His understanding of magic is quite advanced!"
Regis’s voice remained as light and steady as ever: "I had heard of using Chaos Magic to link the power of a mountain range in the world, then releasing a protective magic shield. Mobilizing the power of the mountains is possible, but... isn’t Anahad a Demon Hunter? Does he really have such capability?"
"He was among the first batch of Demon Hunters in this world." Ged chimed in from the side.
"That batch received complete education from Alzur and Maraspina! Two Great Mages famed throughout history! Those old bastards initially didn’t know what creatures they would create, I reckon they taught them all the Warlock’s knowledge."
"Anahad having such level isn’t surprising, he is more advanced in theory than most Mages. Those Warlocks still covet Alzur’s centuries-old knowledge, don’t they?"
Ged, subjected to discrimination as a Demon Hunter, naturally harbored grudges against the founder of this human mutation technique, and casually jabbed at the modern-day Warlocks as well.
Lann and Regis exchanged a glance, their expressions not looking good.
For the one whom Anahad had arranged such an array, it must be a formidable entity no matter how one looked at it.
Now, it was basically confirmed... at the bottom of this spiral path, there should be a High Vampire.
The three continued downward and the closer they got to the core below, the more violently the two Demon Hunters’ badges vibrated.
Lann passed by a wooden stake that had fallen over from its roots along the road.
He discovered that within the root of the stake, some decayed biological tissue was buried.
It somewhat resembled the salivary gland of a gliding lizard.
It seems Anahad utilized rituals and alchemy to guide the flow of power from the surrounding mountains.
The level of sophistication in this technique was certainly not akin to the Bear School’s style.
One could only say that the initial batch of Demon Hunters were trained to be all-rounders by the two Great Mages.
Walking all the way down, the three reached the lowest end of the spiral path.
There was a mined tunnel, not deep, the kind where you could see the bottom from outside the cave.
Inside the cave was a solid steel cage.
A person... a humanoid being, was locked in the cage.
As soon as the three reached the bottom, the being in the cage began to gaze at them.
His eyes glowed faintly in the cave’s darkness, akin to that of a Demon Hunter.
The three and the being stared at each other, yet none uttered a word.
Lann, Ged, and Regis were stunned by what they saw before them, while the being in the cage simply couldn’t make a sound.
It was a robust man with well-groomed hair, handsome eyebrows, a strong body...
But he had lost his entire lower jaw, a bloody opening extending down to his chest!
Like someone had torn off his jaw, ripping out a large chunk of flesh and bone!
Moreover, his right shoulder along with his right hand was completely gone.
The gory wounds lay exposed in the air without any cover. You could even see the rise and fall of his lungs inside the chest cavity from the position where his right shoulder once was.
Any normal person with either of these wounds should die within five minutes.
Yet the man in the cage was not only alive, but the wounds also appeared very fresh, a kind of... regrowing freshness.
Lann’s eyes slightly narrowed.
No, it wasn’t just an impression. His wounds were truly regenerating! Although the process was slow, like water eroding stone over time.
"Anahad drew the power of three peaks just to suppress his regeneration?"
Ged spoke in a near-sighing tone.
"This place must be centuries old! He’s endured for hundreds of years with those injuries?"
Simultaneously, Lann suddenly looked up, gazing from the lower elevation upwards.
Black dots gradually appeared on the snowy slopes of the nearby three mountains.
The black dots moved swiftly, scattering snow beneath their feet as they slid down toward the hollow.
They occasionally let out resistant growls, but in the end, continued toward here.
"Bat-winged Brain Demons, Bat-winged Demons, Blood Demons..."
Lann placed his left hand on the sword hilt at his waist, glancing at the man in the cage.
"It really was you who called these things over, wasn’t it."
The man in the cage stared calmly at the three outside the cave, his eyes completely unfazed.
