Bear School Astartes

Chapter 435. Disassemble

Chapter 435. Disassemble

"Clang! Squelch!"

The blade of Valerian steel shattered the stone shell and immediately pierced into the flesh.

Sharma’s body quickly lost even the last hint of struggle.

"Splash."

Lann pulled out the Turbulent Flow Greatsword and lightly leapt off Sharma’s stone shell, causing a small splash.

"Do you know what valuable materials this guy has on him?"

In Ged’s stunned gaze, Lann pushed the Turbulent Flow back into his Alchemy Pouch and humbly sought advice from his senior.

"You know, I’ve never seen this kind of monster before."

While speaking, the young man reached out to pat Sharma’s stone shell, observing the finally quiet novelty.

He had never seen a creature from underground, nor had he ever been south.

Sharma was indeed fresh to him.

Ged licked his lips, even though he drank several gulps of dirty water during the flash battle earlier, he still felt his throat dry.

"Just now... what was that...?"

Glowing longblade, magic cut by the longblade, big sword pulled from a small pouch... What in the world are these?!

"Oh, you mean these?"

"Smack-"

Lann naturally patted the sheath at his waist.

"These are all new products from Airetusa, the enchantment on the blade, and things like space expansion bags. Don’t make a fuss, Ged, you’ve just been out of touch with these emerging technologies for too long."

The young man wore an expression as if to say ’You’re outdated.’

It made Ged have a feeling: Could it really be because he wasn’t keeping up with the new technology?

But soon, the seasoned Demon Hunter from the Bear School shook his head violently, hurling this self-reflection far away.

A Demon Hunter struggling just to afford food and upgrade armor, not even willing to make [Cat’s Eye], didn’t know about these emerging technologies—is it because I’m not working hard enough?

It’s because these things are clearly too expensive to have anything to do with me!

New technologies or not... Ged knew those Warlocks doing magic could indeed create powerful things.

But he couldn’t understand—how on earth was Lann so wealthy?!

Could it truly be because of my lack of effort, that even a newly joined rookie has more money than me?

While stuffing popped-out cotton back into his quilted armor, Ged fell deep into thought.

"Don’t just stand there, old buddy, come and help."

The young man, holding an exquisite and ornate bone-handled dagger, looked left and right by Sharma’s corpse, uncertain where to start cutting, so he could only call back to his senior.

"You’d better stop fussing with that armor of yours; once we find the designs, I’ll gift you this whole set, just modify it to fit."

Upon hearing this, Ged’s previously confused eyes instantly lit up.

"Oh, my dear brother! Sharma’s most valuable part is the keratin layer beneath its stone shell; leave it to me!"

Speaking of which, this burly man approached the monster’s corpse like an eager hotel bellboy waiting for a tip and started acting.

Eventually, Ged extracted five pieces of Sharma’s keratin layer the size of a normal breastplate and discovered a large chunk of blue mutation stimulator inside its body.

These things were all stuffed into Lann’s Alchemy Pouch.

Though Ged was as sociable as a Dwarf, he understood rules and was willing to follow them.

These goods were brought down by Lann, with almost no contribution from himself, so naturally, the loot would not include him—fair enough.

However, Lann didn’t want Sharma’s severed head after it was removed.

Though Ged mentioned that once preserved as a specimen, this could serve as a trophy hung on a saddle and easily bump up the reward on future missions by at least ten gold coins.

Still, Lann briefly considered his financial situation and Bopai’s increasingly hard-to-bear load capacity, deciding to let Ged have the trophy from Sharma.

This made the Bear School’s burly man secretly delighted for quite some time.

"This big hole can only wait for the Sintra People to come fix it later; we’re not an engineering team."

Ged slightly spread his arms to measure the hole adjacent to the underground river, arriving at a helpless conclusion.

"Of course, we can’t build walls."

Lann crossed his arms and peeked down from the edge of the hole, glancing around.

Some fluorescent mushrooms grew beside the underground river, but aside from that, it was pitch-black, with only the continuous sound of water.

"There shouldn’t be many creatures surviving in caves by the underground river, and it seems the nearby ones have come in; once we clear out the tomb, the construction crew can work without worry... as long as there’s no more Sharma."

At the end, Lann was a bit hesitant, as he wasn’t familiar with Sharma’s habits and thus wasn’t prone to make rash judgements.

"There shouldn’t be; this Sharma is already violating biological habits."

Ged, familiar with southern monsters, touched his chin to make a guess.

"It actually crossed the Yaruga River... that’s a very rare occurrence."

"Could this be an omen of some special situation, like a monster’s alarm habit or something?"

"Who could say?" Ged shrugged in the face of Lann’s query.

"It might be its territory was invaded, or simply that its original territory became unsuitable due to weather, or perhaps it was confused by Chaos Magic Power... there are many possibilities, unless you get a Warlock for long-term investigation; otherwise don’t expect to find things out."

Lann looked up and thought: "Long-term investigation... I recall Sintra’s Royal Advisor is a Druid?"

Ged slapped his hands together with a smile: "Right! Druids! Those casters obsessed with ecology! We inform them about this, and it’s considered fulfilling our duty. They are most concerned about such matters."

After figuring out the subsequent direction for handling, the two continued working.

This big hole and Sharma’s remains were left there, waiting for the engineering team dispatched by the Sintra People to handle.

Having dealt with the danger of this water inlet, the remaining important matter was dealing with the Demon Spirit.

The two Demon Hunters turned direction within the tomb and headed towards the other crypt chamber to explore.

On the way, Lann and Ged saw the corpses of those dispatched previously.

They were several Royal Guards.

They wore mixed armor of chainmail and plate, which already provided very good protection.

Their surcoats atop the armor were blue with embroidery of three yellow lions—the emblem of Sintra.

Lann lifted one corpse’s head and used a finger to push open the hinged visor on the helmet, exposing the face.

Instantly, a nauseating smell rushed out.

Half of the corpse’s face had been soaking in water these past few days, now utterly rotten.

Moreover, the decay was spreading to the other half.

His eyeball had turned to mush, and on the corpse’s iron-gloved hand, the palm was contorted and taut like a chicken claw.

It appeared to have died in terror and pain.

"Done by the Demon Spirit, your observations were correct."

Lann, with a calm face, returned the helmet to the water.

The face guard of the corpse was intact, but a fresh and evil sword wound cut across his entire face.

That was a mark made by the weapons in the hands of the Demon Spirits.
