Bear School Astartes

Chapter 431. Never been there

Chapter 431. Never been there

"Alright, we can now conclude that this task is starting to get complicated."

Lann said, pulling out Demon Hunter’s magic potions from the alchemy pouch at his back waist.

Two vials of [Cat’s Eye], and two vials of [Enhanced Swallow].

"Hold on, Regis. Let them drink it, these potions are much more useful for Demon Hunters than bandages."

The seasoned surgeon who had performed multiple operations on himself was very confident about this.

"Oh?" The vampire’s eyes lit up with curiosity. This time, he didn’t even bother to wipe the blood off his hands and eagerly took the glass bottles from Lann’s hands.

"Is this the alchemy potion that secretly circulates among the Demon Hunters? Ha! I’ve been curious about this rare stuff for a long time!"

Although he said he’d been curious for a long time, Regis didn’t even take the opportunity to sniff the vial when handing the potions to the two men.

His perfectly judged sense of boundary always made people feel comfortable.

Kohen, somewhat dazed, took the two bottles of potion. He had encountered friendly and gentle Demon Hunters before, but none had ever delivered two bottles of potion in such a situation!

"This, this is too precious! Are you..."

Do you need my help with something?

Kohen thought to himself, so much so that he cautiously didn’t pour the potion down his throat, for fear of accepting a favor he couldn’t repay.

That seemed the most reasonable explanation to him.

After all, even the friendliest colleagues he knew would at most send a potion when he was severely injured, on the verge of death, hoping to pull him back.

Now, his wound on the waist, by Demon Hunter standards, could hardly be considered severe.

"I’ve accumulated a lot of potions, some almost expired."

Lann didn’t have any particular thoughts about the Griffin School’s Demon Hunters; he simply wanted to save someone.

He knew exactly how to dispel the other’s doubts.

"Just consider it helping me handle expired inventory, drink it without worry."

Lann waved his hand, his tone rather nonchalant.

Kohen hesitated, looking at the two bottles of potion in his hand. In the end, he pursed his lips and gulped them down.

"Gulp~ Woah! Thanks, friend. I owe you a favor. If you need anything, Kohen from Kovir will be at the Wolf School’s Ker Morhan castle, at your service."

"The Wolf School’s Ker Morhan? Are you well-acquainted with the Wolf School?"

Lann was slightly surprised upon hearing the name.

"Yes, I have discussed with Vesemir Grandmaster of the Wolf School; I will frequently winter at Ker Morhan in the future."

"Then even less reason to stand on ceremony, I have a good relationship with the Grandmaster as well; maybe we can meet at Ker Morhan."

Lann reached out and patted Kohen’s shoulder; a mutual friend is a great way to draw closer.

Elsewhere, Ged of the Bear School was more straightforward.

He accepted the potion bottle without hesitation and drained it in one go.

Shortly after, his initially minor injuries healed completely, even his stamina fully recovered.

"You were a great help, my brother!"

Ged eagerly approached for a hug, but although the young man didn’t mind fighting in the mud, he believed Ged’s bear hug would get the dirt from the mud onto his hair, so Lann firmly resisted and pushed Ged away.

Instead, he shook his hand.

"Hmm, you’re a bit too enthusiastic."

Ged didn’t mind at all.

"Otherwise, brother? I can’t believe I could meet a Bear School Demon Hunter with feelings like me at this time! I thought those of us without a fortress were slowly dying out!"

Ged was sure that if it were the ’normal people’ in his school, they would just watch him die without batting an eye. Even though he wore the same necklace around his neck.

"Actually..."

Lann exchanged a glance with Regis.

"I was also surprised; I was prepared to deal with a colleague devoid of feelings."

"Haha! This further proves that Anahad doesn’t know a thing! Cold, heartless killing machines can never survive long in this world!"

Ged laughed heartily.

Lann’s mouth twitched slightly, thinking, if I hadn’t arrived quickly, maybe this ’feeling bearer’ wouldn’t have lived to see another day.

But with Ged’s inherently friendly personality, like a dwarf, it was difficult not to like him.

"It’s best you both retreat now."

Lann looked at their battered appearances.

"The path we came by is safe, and now both of you have drunk [Cat’s Eye], darkness won’t be an issue. I will continue inside and finish this task."

"No, let Kohen and the esteemed doctor leave, I will go on with you to pursue the task."

Ged sheathed his silver sword and crossed his arms.

"We spent several days investigating before entering the tomb; although things went awry, I think our intel should still be useful for the task, you can use my help."

Lann scrutinized Ged with his eyes, black as ink after drinking the potion.

This Bear School Demon Hunter returned the gaze with the same eyes.

"Alright."

After confirming the other’s health, Lann nodded.

"Regis, I need your help. Please take Kohen and wait for us at the tomb entrance."

The barber nodded, helping the patient stagger away.

-----------------

Before Demon Hunters progress to the weapon-drawing stage of a task, they must gather intelligence and information. This process is sometimes even more crucial than combat.

In fact, Ged and Kohen had already spent several days investigating outside the tomb, and today they had decided to enter, aiming to complete the task.

"We confirmed that those first to descend met their end by Demon Spirit’s hands; Demon Spirit wounds are very distinguishable, we won’t mistake them. The sole survivor, although mad, was babbling on about ’ghosts’, and ’spirits’ all along."

Ged and Lann walked through the darkness. Although no longer carrying torches, their steps became more steady and swift.

[Cat’s Eye] allowed their optic nerves to penetrate the darkness.

"Definitely Demon Spirit, and absolutely no traces of other monsters. Both Kohen and I believe this, which is why we only prepared measures against Demon Spirit. But damn it! These Sintra people seem to entirely disregard tomb safety! There wouldn’t be this many monsters even in a village cemetery!"

Lann listened quietly; this intel was very useful, at least letting him know that he’d definitely face Demon Spirits in this task.

Even though Kohen and Ged didn’t grasp the political undertones of the task, their Demon Hunter investigation skills were trustworthy.

"By the way."

Ged was rather talkative, which wasn’t common among Demon Hunters.

"I haven’t seen you at Heinkawei, brother. Do you stay away because you don’t get along with the ’icy ones’ at the castle? Understandable, I feel the same."

"I’d rather camp in the Amel Mountains than stay with those who are colder than the snow on the mountain."

Ged talked to himself.

Meeting a fellow Bear School Demon Hunter with feelings made him feel naturally close.

But Lann slightly glanced sideways at him, then scratched his cheek.

"Uh... I actually haven’t been to Heinkawei."

Ged nodded.

"I thought so! That place doesn’t feel right... Huh?!"

Like suddenly realizing something, Ged stood still and stared wide-eyed.
