Chapter 608: Chapter 609 Punishment
Gong Ruini yawned, turned over to continue sleeping, and realized that this bed was really quite empty.
Logically, it shouldn’t be, after all, there were three people lying there. She opened her eyes, concerned she had rolled onto the floor.
Upon opening her eyes, she realized something wasn’t right: Cai Ming was sitting on the chair with the letter on the floor.
Could it be that Uncle didn’t sleep at all last night? This really shocked Gong Ruini. Not sleeping all night indicated that something serious might be going on; she wondered what Gao Yanan wrote in the letter.
"What’s the matter?" Gong Ruwen instinctively reached out, felt no one there, and quickly sat up, seeing his sister standing dumbfounded on the floor, very puzzled.
Gong Ruini pointed at Cai Ming sitting on the chair, "Uncle didn’t sleep all night."
Gong Ruwen yawned, "Oh," and was ready to go back to sleep. As long as his sister was fine, that’s all that mattered to him.
Unbelievable, they had already said Uncle didn’t sleep all night, how could he be so carefree? Gong Ruini was utterly amazed.
"What? Uncle didn’t sleep all night." Gong Ruwen had just lied down when he remembered what his sister said and quickly sat up, frightened.
Oh my god, how is this guy so full of energy? Gong Ruini was thoroughly startled, realizing he had only just processed the information, not that he was indifferent.
"Shh." Gong Ruini gestured for Gong Ruwen to be quiet.
Gong Ruwen didn’t overthink it either, after seeing his sister’s gesture, he swiftly placed his hand over his mouth, "So Uncle really didn’t sleep."
Could it be that the letter contained something unimaginable that kept Uncle awake all night? Gong Ruwen gazed at the letter on the floor, filled with curiosity.
Gong Ruini was also curious, initially planning to sneak a peek at the letter while everyone was still asleep. But now, how could she?
Without the owner’s permission, one shouldn’t read the letter. Oh, Gong Ruini was truly regretful; had she known, she would have swiftly skimmed through it without so much mental debate.
But now Gong Ruwen was awake, and as a lady, she certainly couldn’t go peeking at the letter.
Gong Ruwen was curious too, but without Uncle’s consent, he couldn’t bring himself to sneak a look at the letter either.
So the two siblings just stared at the letter on the floor.
His body was one of stiffness; this was Cai Ming’s first reaction after waking, then he saw the letter on the floor. He picked it up and noticed Gong Ruini and the others staring at it.
"Curious?" Cai Ming asked while stretching his body.
Gong Ruini wanted to haughtily say she wasn’t interested, but her mouth was much more honest than she was, "Yeah, curious."
"Curious, but I won’t show you," Cai Ming said, putting the letter back into its envelope and tucked it into his notebook, "Still sleeping?"
Without the letter to read, Gong Ruini yawned and planned to go back to sleep, seeing as Cai Ming didn’t intend to share the letter’s contents. Why waste effort here?
"I’m going back to sleep too," Gong Ruwen lay down, ready to go back to sleep. Since Uncle was awake, and he seemed fine, Gong Ruwen decided to go back to sleep.
"Sleep? Get up and go for a run. You haven’t exercised these days, have you?" Cai Ming gestured for the two kids to join him in exercising, "At such a young age, don’t think about sleeping all day. Get up early."
Unbelievable. Gong Ruini and Gong Ruwen were stunned. Since he didn’t want them to sleep, why ask? Wasn’t that misleading?
Gong Ruwen knew his uncle wouldn’t let him off the hook, so he obediently got up to wash up and prepare to go out for exercise.
"Can I not go?" Gong Ruini held onto some hope; back in Beijing, it wasn’t as demanding because she was a girl.
Cai Ming gave Gong Ruini a smile, "Do you think that’s possible?"
Alright, Gong Ruini understood. Oh, regret! If she had known this would be the punishment, she would have read the letter entirely. At least she wouldn’t be feeling itchy all over, since a punishment was bound to come anyway.
But it’s no use regretting now, Gong Ruini sluggishly went to wash up.
Miao Cuihua was startled seeing Gong Ruwen and Gong Ruini sluggishly wobbling out of the room, "Ni Zi, you guys?"
"We’re preparing for morning exercise." Oh, Gong Ruini still hoped her uncle would pity her and let her off, but no matter how pitifully she spoke, she never heard anyone relent and say no exercise.
Morning exercise? What exercise? Miao Cuihua was utterly puzzled. Gong Ruwen and his sister had been here for several days, and she hadn’t seen them exercise at all. Why today? What’s the situation?
Miao Cuihua initially thought Gong Ruini was joking, but seeing the three of them really go out, she was truly bewildered.
"What are you doing?" Gong Zhuang yawned, walking out, finding his wife dumbfoundedly sitting in the living room.
"Ni Zi and them went out to exercise." Miao Cuihua truly couldn’t understand how Uncle Cai Ming could be so strict.
Going out to exercise, huh? Gong Zhuang replied, "It’s normal; otherwise, Ni Zi’s health wouldn’t improve."
"Didn’t Second Brother mention this in a letter before?" Gong Zhuang expressed that this was something he already knew, nothing surprising.
"You knew too, didn’t you?" Gong Zhuang found it odd; his wife had seen Second Brother’s letter.
Miao Cuihua felt a bit embarrassed; she couldn’t tell him she originally thought Gong Zhuang was casually speaking and hadn’t expected it to be true, "Second Brother is a college student, and Ni Zi and them will also go to college."
"Why wouldn’t they go to college with such good grades?" Miao Cuihua still believed that few people go to college, none of her kids had good grades. But if her son could be clever, could work hard in studies, she would certainly strive to support her children in education.
The problem was that none of these sons had good grades, making Miao Cuihua angry.
Listening to his wife’s envious tone, Gong Zhuang also felt various forms of jealousy, "Look at Ni Zi and them; they don’t forget to read and practice writing even at home."
"And then look at our kids, oh."
"I used to think our kids were pretty good, better than Big Brother’s kids."
"Even though Second Brother praised Ni Zi’s siblings, I really didn’t feel they’d achieve more than our kids; but now it seems Second Brother’s kids are truly clever."
"And knowledgeable, write beautifully, draw great pictures." Gong Zhuang incessantly praised.
"And look at how caring Ni Zi is. Although there are two more people at home, Gong Ruini really works quickly,"
"She cooks quite well." Miao Cuihua, who used to find her own children to be great, was now full of praise for Gong Ruini, "So, should we set stricter demands too?"
Miao Cuihua was a strong-willed person; since Gong Zhuang had the insight to cultivate his children, she certainly wouldn’t miss this opportunity.
