Chapter 613 - 614: Targeting
Chapter 613 - 614: Targeting
Gong Ruini watched the two people arguing like fighting roosters, truly not caring about saving face at all.
Especially Gong Zheng, who used to maintain some pretenses, but now doesn’t even bother. He can bicker with Gong Qiang, just showing how things have been for him lately.
Gong Zhuang wouldn’t try to mediate either, just letting them argue. For such trivial things, both have forgotten their dignity. Is there any difference between them and shrews fighting in the street?
Gong Zhuang isn’t foolish; he knows if he doesn’t speak up, he’ll end up in a tough spot. So, from time to time, he tries to intervene.
Unfortunately, Gong Zhuang wasn’t keen on putting in much effort, and with Gong Qiang and Gong Zheng being intolerant of each other recently, they both shoved Gong Zhuang aside, almost leading to a full-blown fight.
As for Gong Ruini and Gong Ruwen, they are kids, and had already been warned by Gong Zhuang to stay far away. Though, of course, they still found a good spot to observe.
The surrounding family members wanted to watch the spectacle, but the noise was too much. To avoid disturbing the patients, they had to intervene.
Due to the commotion being so significant, it wasn’t long before the hospital’s doctors and nurses all came out.
"What are you doing?" The director stepped out. "Do you think there aren’t enough problems already? How do you think your mother would feel about this?"
The doctors really had no good feelings towards the Gong Family, having seen their previous acts of pretending to be sick, and later shirking responsibilities when they actually became ill.
"Well, I-I," Gong Zheng was dumbfounded when he saw the director come out. He really didn’t know how he ended up impulsively arguing with that fool Gong Qiang.
"Doctor, it really wasn’t me wanting to argue with Fourth Brother. He’s really a nobody. While I was at home taking care of my mom, he actually changed the front door lock." Gong Qiang wished he could punch Gong Zheng a few times.
"I was busy taking care of my mom, so I didn’t pay attention, but he actually mocked me, saying I had no money, and sold my house. Who has a brother like this?"
Wow, did he actually change the house key? Gong Ruini couldn’t help but look at Gong Zheng. She just wanted to say this guy is really ruthless.
Gong Zhuang was surprised, "Fourth Brother, how could you do that? What do you mean? You know mom’s health isn’t good, and while we’re all busy, you do this."
Though Gong Zhuang thought Gong Zheng wouldn’t be foolish enough to do something like this, sometimes people do make foolish decisions.
"I just came home that day, didn’t have the key, and Brother, you changed the lock first—can you blame me?" Gong Zheng felt wronged, "I was exhausted from caring for mom and just wanted to rest, but found out the key had changed. What was I supposed to think?"
Oh, someone did one thing, and the next one did something else in response.
"Gong Xiaoyu lost the key nearby, couldn’t find it, what were we supposed to do?" Gong Qiang retorted, "Mom was the one who had the lock changed, and besides, how long has it been since you last visited mom?"
"If you had come back even once, you wouldn’t have been without a key." Gong Qiang sternly countered.
"Third Brother, you got a key too, right?" Gong Qiang knew Gong Zheng might not believe him, but it wasn’t Gong Zheng he needed to convince; he needed everyone else to believe, so it wouldn’t be related to him.
Gong Zhuang affirmed, "Yes, I got it from mom."
A stir erupted among the onlookers; they’d thought the filial son didn’t visit his mother often and all began to gossip.
Hearing the chatter around him, Gong Zheng’s face turned unsightly. "I-I was busy, wasn’t I?"
"I was busy preparing for university exams, Brother, Third Brother, you know that." Gong Zheng was aggrieved.
Watching Gong Zheng’s swift change in expression, Gong Ruini was amazed. She thought it was a pity Gong Zheng wasn’t acting, as his expressions shifted so quickly.
"Yes, you attended last year, and again this year," Gong Qiang wasn’t gullible, "but is attending exams your excuse for not visiting mom?"
"You’re going to take the university exam, but can you get in?" Gong Qiang was cursing Gong Zheng, believing that if this morally dubious brother made it into university, his life would become difficult.
Gong Qiang wasn’t worried about Gong Tao getting into university. At worst, he’d just stop associating with him, but at least Gong Tao wouldn’t hurt him. Gong Zheng was different; he’d definitely retaliate.
"You are cursing me." Gong Zheng was furious. "What if I don’t get into university..."
Gong Zheng actually knew deep down, despite his earlier confidence about the exam, he wasn’t sure. But if he could pin this on Gong Qiang, that would be great.
"No, this has nothing to do with me. If just a few words from me make you fail, didn’t you curse Second Brother Gong Qiang’s university exam plenty? I heard it several times." Gong Qiang replied, "The truth is, if you do well, my words wouldn’t affect your performance."
"Don’t you agree?" Gong Qiang, seeing Gong Zheng’s face reddening, felt delighted. It should be like this, otherwise people would think he’s easily bullied.
Gong Zheng was nearly fainting. He hadn’t expected Gong Qiang to sell him out so ruthlessly, "I-I never said anything about Second Brother."
Sure, he felt dissatisfied back then and said a couple of things, but Gong Tao and his wife got into Beijing University with such high scores—how could Gong Zheng not be impressed?
"You never said it, but I knew you’d deny it." Gong Qiang said he had no evidence, "But if you really didn’t say it, why did you get so worked up just now? Isn’t it because you’re guilty?"
He knew it was a bluff, but how could he make such mistakes, "I’m just afraid Ni Zi and they would be displeased with me if they found out?"
"Ni Zi, Rui Wen, don’t listen to your uncle’s nonsense. He’s just jealous of others doing well." Gong Zheng explained to Gong Ruini with grievance. Anyway, until he achieves great success, he has to endure.
But he certainly planned to remember today’s events and make sure to retaliate in the future.
"It’s fine, it’s fine, we don’t believe in that. We only believe in getting what we work hard for." Gong Ruini truly trusted what Gong Qiang said this time.
Gong Zheng’s heart wasn’t just petty; he couldn’t stand seeing others doing better than him. Once someone outshined him, he’d definitely retaliate. But this time they were in the Northeast for exams, leaving no opportunity for Gong Zheng to meddle, so he resorted to cursing, which didn’t surprise Gong Ruini.
Gong Ruwen unhappily glanced at Gong Zheng. He knew that despite Gong Zheng’s words, one’s performance wasn’t necessarily affected, but he still felt uncomfortable.
Gong Zheng was more dumbfounded. Despite saying such bad things about Cai Meina, these two didn’t react at all. What was going on? If you truly forgave, just say so rather than dragging it out. Don’t you know this makes life difficult?
