Chapter 598 - 599: Seeking Advice
Chapter 598 - 599: Seeking Advice
Gong Zheng was restless, and Gong Qiang was also not at peace; he didn’t even go to fight with Gong Zheng over who would rest first.
At this moment, Gong Qiang was really panicking. He didn’t expect things to turn out this way, and he never thought that just because of a few things he said, his mother would get this upset.
If he could turn back time, Gong Qiang vowed he would never do such a foolish thing again; he would definitely take good care of Zhang Lan.
No matter how unpleasant Zhang Lan’s words might be in the future, he wouldn’t argue with her; he would humbly listen to her teachings, even if there were things he truly didn’t want to hear or do. But he would never go against Zhang Lan like this.
How could Gong Qiang not be nervous? With Zhang Lan around, no matter how unwilling the Gong family might be, they couldn’t really ignore her entirely; they would always give a bit of money.
And who would this money be for if not mostly for him?
Gong Qiang admitted that when that brat Gong Xiaoyu was encouraging the old lady to do such things back then, he should have stopped it.
The current situation is unsatisfying; even if Zhang Lan is truly saved, is her condition really good?
"Do you think mom will be unable to take care of herself in the future?" The more Gong Qiang thought about it, the more anxious he became, unable to calm down.
Helplessly, Gong Qiang had to shake awake Gong Zheng, who had already started snoring, much to the latter’s anger.
How could Gong Zheng not be angry? He had just managed to drift off into a dream filled with delicious food while his stomach protested, only to be woken up by Gong Qiang.
"What?" Gong Zheng, still half-asleep, really didn’t understand what Gong Qiang was saying. "Mom will be fine."
Gong Zheng was unsure inside, even though the doctor had spoken ambiguously; he was quite anxious too.
Although Gong Zheng wouldn’t bow his head to Gong Tao, if Gong Tao really became successful, he wouldn’t mind asking for Gong Tao’s support.
Of course, from Gong Zheng’s point of view, it was impossible for him to proactively ask Gong Tao for help. That would make him seem too humble.
As for hoping Gong Tao might notice they were not doing well, Gong Zheng figured that even if Gong Tao knew a thing or two, he wouldn’t actually come forward to help them.
Now the best scenario would be for Zhang Lan to survive, and of course, live well and healthily.
If that wish couldn’t be fulfilled, then it would be enough if Zhang Lan could just speak.
But now it seemed even that hope was dim, which left Gong Zheng stunned.
Things will be fine, ha, that’s just what they’re hoping for, wishing Zhang Lan could recover on her own. But is that possibility high?
It’s just empty talk; Gong Qiang expressed that he’d heard such meaningless words far too often, resulting in him getting tricked time after time.
"What else can we do other than wait?" Gong Qiang’s distrust in his words left Gong Zheng quite displeased, knowing that Gong Qiang wasn’t very bright; but he couldn’t just fall out with him right now, could he?
"You, ah, when you see Gong Zhuang tomorrow, don’t get mad, big brother. Why not bring mom down here?" Gong Zheng sincerely suggested.
What, letting him take care of their mother, and around the clock at that? What does he think he is? A servant? Gong Qiang’s first reaction was displeased, "I’m not doing it."
"I’m just not doing it." Gong Qiang stated that he had a job, "I have to go to work every day."
Even if the job was not something he could talk about with people, it was still a job he couldn’t do without, "What will I do when I get old if not?"
"You could take a long sick leave, couldn’t you? It’s not like you don’t have a reason." Gong Zheng hadn’t thought about switching; he’d just quickly dismissed such an idea.
Even though he wasn’t doing great now, Gong Zheng didn’t believe he’d stay down forever. He’d rise again, especially considering he still wanted to go to college.
"Actually, I also want to take care of mom." As long as he didn’t compete with Gong Qiang over things, no matter how good those things were, he would find them unappealing.
"Then you take care of her." Did they really think he was a fool? Gong Qiang declared that he wasn’t an idiot, "You’re not too busy in the office now, are you?"
In the past, they’d always made things difficult for Gong Zheng, but now the section chief had changed tactics and simply left him in the cold; otherwise, if he got involved in things, it was as if they wanted him completely useless.
Gong Zheng’s face immediately fell; he used to be busy with various tasks, but at least he could get involved in things. Maybe, if he were lucky, he could make use of an opportunity. Perhaps while being busy, he might catch the leader’s eye, and then turning things around wouldn’t be just a dream.
"I might go to college." Gong Zheng kept telling himself not to discuss such matters with such an idiot, as talking to him would only infuriate himself.
College? Gong Qiang laughed coldly, "Wait till you get into college first." How good could his abilities really be?
Gong Qiang wasn’t a person with great academic performance, but he wasn’t stupid either. If Gong Zheng were truly that outstanding, how could the Wu Family be willing to give up such a good son-in-law?
"You..." Gong Qiang’s words made Gong Zheng nearly blow a fuse, even though the room was dark, with just the light from the hallway coming in, Gong Zheng could already imagine the smug and ugly face of Gong Tao.
It took much restraint to avoid landing a punch on Gong Qiang. With a person like that, why bother arguing? Gong Zheng was also worried that if he did punch, Qiang might just blame him completely.
"Forget it, let’s talk about it later." Since this scheme seemed unprofitable to Gong Qiang, why should he persuade him to accept it? Mud will always be mud, no matter how you support it.
Gong Zheng’s words made Gong Qiang quite happy. Hmph, did they really think that things would still go his way like when Zhang Lan was around?
"You stay with mom; you were the one who rested first." Gong Qiang estimated the time, and it happened to be Gong Zheng’s turn to watch over their mother for the second half of the night.
No way, Gong Zheng was dumbfounded. How long had he rested? He was shaken awake by Gong Qiang early on, and now he was saying he had rested enough!
This guy was utterly shameless. Hmph, it’s no wonder he could get along with mom so well, just a typical rogue, eh?
"And don’t shake me; I won’t wake up." Gong Zheng had just closed his eyes but remembered something and raised his head to sternly warn Gong Zheng.
Gong Qiang didn’t forget to show Gong Zheng a fist. Although as a janitor the pay and benefits were minimal, there were advantages; at least he had gained a lot more strength now, and dealing with Gong Zheng was really easy.
Gong Qiang still remembered why he had divorced back then; wasn’t it because of Gong Zheng’s various incitements, otherwise, he would have been a happy man with a wife, son, and daughter now. "Gong Zheng, think about what you’ve done; if we hadn’t kept some things secret for you, just imagine..."
Outrageous, too outrageous, Gong Zheng’s face turned sour after such a threat from Gong Qiang, but alas, his Combat Power was so low. Sigh, he really needed to find an opportunity to teach Gong Qiang a lesson someday.
