Chapter 227: An Accidental Encounter with Song Weidong
Chapter 227: An Accidental Encounter with Song Weidong
Actually, he’s not that stingy, he just feels that old shoes are comfortable and don’t chafe. Pretty good.
He coughed awkwardly twice, "Hmm, this Niu Er seems indeed suspicious."
Su Xiaoxiao speculated, "Maybe he and Director Zhao are both involved in the steel theft."
Just as they said this, they heard the voice of Police Chen from the doorway.
"Alright, Director Liu, thanks for your cooperation. We’ll head back now and inform you once the matter is resolved."
Su Wenbing was looking down at his shoes, hesitating whether to change to a new pair when Su Xiaoxiao dragged him straight out the door.
Outside stood Niu Er, Director Liu, and Director Zhao, with two police officers still present.
Seeing such a gathering of leadership and officers, Su Wenbing immediately tensed up, completely forgetting about changing his shoes.
Police Chen nodded towards them, "Comrade Su, we’ve found some clues. We’ll let you know once we catch the real thief."
With that, they departed. Director Zhao glanced at Su Wenbing, "Director, although Comrade Su may not be involved, there’s still suspicion. I suggest we wait until the police completely clear things up before letting him return to work."
"No investigation needed, Comrade Su is fine. He can resume work as usual tomorrow."
Director Liu declared firmly.
But Director Zhao was unwilling, having worked hard to secure a position for his cousin, and now it seemed to be lost—unacceptable!
"Director, isn’t this inappropriate? What if more things go missing..."
Before he could finish, he met Director Liu’s stern gaze, "Director Zhao, do I need to remind you of the things you’ve done?"
Speaking pointedly, he glanced at Niu Er, "You and Comrade Niu come to my office, I have something to discuss with you."
He had held back earlier out of consideration for Director Zhao’s pride, given their years together despite the lack of achievements.
Upon hearing this, Director Zhao turned pale as if realizing something.
Director Liu then turned back to Su Wenbing with a warm smile, "Comrade Su, you can return to work tomorrow as usual, is that okay?"
"No problem, thank you, Director!"
Su Wenbing immediately stood upright and gave Director Liu a standard salute.
After the trio entered the office, he relaxed instantly, "That scared me!"
Facing two major leaders at the factory was truly nerve-wracking.
He reached for Su Xiaoxiao, "Little sister, come and help me, my legs feel weak."
Su Xiaoxiao, seeing her big brother looking so unmanly, could hardly bear to watch.
She reached out to support him, "Alright, we’re done here. You just return to work tomorrow and carry on as usual, brother."
Su Wenbing had brought Su Xiaoxiao on his bicycle, but now seeing his condition, riding back wasn’t likely.
Yet looking at her brother, who was a head taller and quite stout, Su Xiaoxiao was unsure whether she could manage it.
Finally, she gritted her teeth, "Brother, can you handle a fall?"
"Huh?"
Su Wenbing looked at his petite sister with uncertainty, "You’re planning to carry me?"
While talking, Su Xiaoxiao had already straddled the bike. Yet the crossbar was too high for her just over 160 cm height.
She had to stretch on tiptoes to barely get on.
Seeing his sister struggling to get on the bike, Su Wenbing was silent for a couple of seconds. As he was about to suggest he ride instead, he heard a surprised male voice behind him.
"Comrade Su, why are you here?"
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Su Xiaoxiao turned and saw Song Weidong confidently straddle his bicycle, his feet firmly on the ground with long legs.
Su Xiaoxiao: "..."
How could there be such a big difference between people?
After a moment’s silence, she worked to get off the bike, "I came with my brother to handle some matters at the factory, just about to head back."
When Song Weidong heard Su Xiaoxiao refer to the man beside her as her real brother, he immediately grew flustered, his ears visibly turning red.
"Um...hello, brother."
That sent both sides into silence.
Even the usually oblivious Su Wenbing suddenly realized that this rascal might just be the guy his sister mentioned as her boyfriend earlier.
He thought it odd how easily his sister talked about having a boyfriend. Turns out, it’s real!
Thinking about this, his critical gaze fell on Song Weidong. Hmm, quite tall, good-looking, but after some thought, he concluded: This one’s no good, not good enough for his sister. Too charming, unreliable.
A young man shouldn’t look prettier than a girl, how’s that right?
With this in mind, his face turned cold, "Sister, who is this guy?"
Song Weidong could clearly sense the change in Su Wenbing’s gaze from confusion to a bit of appreciation, followed by disgruntled shaking of his head.
In just a few seconds, he could tell that Big Brother Su didn’t like him.
Instantly, he felt a strong sense of crisis.
"Comrade Su, haven’t you and your brother eaten yet? How about I treat you to food at the state-run restaurant?"
He rushed to say.
No matter the other’s attitude towards him, he had to at least be courteous.
Su Xiaoxiao hadn’t yet figured out how to repay the favor she owed. Once she heard about food, she immediately replied, "Sure, I’ll treat, let’s go eat together."
Her brother’s sister was actually offering to treat this rascal? Does she really fancy him?
Su Wenbing was alarmed, no way, he couldn’t let his good cabbage be eaten by a pig. Even if his sister were to find a husband, he’d have to be at least of good character and conditions. This guy looks too much like a playboy, not a match.
Song Weidong hadn’t realized that in such a short face-to-face, Su Wenbing already categorized him as a playboy and unreliable. He smiled, "Then let’s trouble Comrade Su."
As he spoke, he noticed Su Xiaoxiao pushing the bike and offered, "Brother, the state-run restaurant is a bit far. How about I give you a ride?"
He had just seen Su Xiaoxiao planning to carry her brother, perhaps believing that Su family’s big brother couldn’t ride a bike.
This he couldn’t say directly, needed to save face for the other.
Su Wenbing frowned; it wasn’t that he couldn’t ride. Why was everyone offering him a ride?
But thinking about his sister’s unusual behavior before, he hesitated. If he suggested riding the bike, his sister might hop on the back seat of this rascal’s bike.
Thinking of this, a fierce flame ignited in his eyes, no, absolutely not.
He immediately nodded, "Alright!"
