Back to the 1970s: Building My Fortune Through Time Trading

Chapter 222: Not a Proper Fight

Chapter 222: Not a Proper Fight

Su Xiaoxiao curiously craned her neck to look over, only to see a man and a woman tugging at each other.

But as they fought, the situation started to feel a little off.

Soon enough, she realized what was wrong; this wasn’t a real fight, it was clearly...

Her face flushed red, and she immediately took hold of her two little brothers and turned to leave.

Su Jianwu was perplexed: "Third Sis, we were really getting into it, why’d you stop us from watching?"

"Watch my head, if you see a man and a woman fighting like this again, keep your distance, or you’ll end up with styes."

Su Jianwu scratched his head, but it was Su Jianwen, the wise little one, who figured it out: "I got it, Third Sis, they’re not fighting, they’re having an affair!"

Su Xiaoxiao hurriedly covered his mouth: "Keep it down, let’s go!"

She was, after all, a maiden not yet married, and dragging two half-grown boys around to spy on things like this was not something she’d want getting out.

The three of them made their way home, and as they reached the door, they spotted a young male comrade in a postal uniform stopping his bicycle at the entrance to their yard.

Su Xiaoxiao asked curiously: "Hello, Comrade, who are you looking for?"

The male comrade turned around to see a pretty girl standing behind him, her eyes sparkling like stars, and his face felt a bit hot.

"H-Hello, Comrade, I’m here to deliver a letter to Su Xiaoxiao, Comrade Su."

Su Xiaoxiao nodded: "That’s me, thank you."

She spoke as she took the envelope, feeling its weight in her hand.

She glanced at the information on the envelope, and as expected, it was another one sent by Zhou Cheng.

Zhou Cheng had previously sent her several letters, often including items with them. This time, however, there was no additional package.

After thanking the male comrade, she tucked the envelope into her pocket and headed inside.

The two little brothers followed closely behind.

"Third Sis, who wrote you the letter? Is it that guy Zhou?"

Su Jianwu’s eyes sparkled as he stared at the envelope; usually, when Third Sis received a letter, it would come with plenty of food. How come there was only an envelope today? Could it be money?

"Third Sis, why don’t you just accept him? After all, there’s no man as generous as him around these parts."

Su Jianwen, being the cunning little one he was, had always admired soldiers, especially those who were officers.

If he were to become a brother-in-law, it would certainly bring lots of prestige.

Su Xiaoxiao glared: "What do you two little brats know?"

Just then, Liu Cuilan came out from inside the house. Seeing the envelope in Su Xiaoxiao’s hand, she asked curiously: "Has Little Zhou sent another letter?"

"Mm-hmm."

"Little Zhou comrade is really great, just look at him, good-looking and generous. How many things has he sent you already..."

Every time Liu Cuilan saw Zhou Cheng’s letters, she would go on about this; Su Xiaoxiao had heard it so many times her ears were going numb. She promptly interrupted her: "Mom, I’m going to lie down for a bit, call me when it’s time to eat."

And with that, she hurried inside.

Liu Cuilan sighed. Watching the three of them grow older one by one, yet none in a hurry to get married.

It would be such a blast if they hurried and formed their families, giving her plenty of little ones to fuss over!

But they weren’t in any rush, neither the eldest nor the second; and the third was the same.

Su Xiaoxiao returned to her room, took off her shoes, sat cross-legged on the edge of the bed, and opened the envelope.

Inside was indeed a thick stack of money, and taking it out, she felt something hard in there; she casually pulled it out, and it turned out to be an intricately crafted hair clip.

Su Xiaoxiao set it aside and read through the letter.

The content was no different from before, aside from greetings, he shared some stories about military life.

Su Xiaoxiao seldom replied to Zhou Cheng’s letters, but this time she hesitated whether to write him back.

Having received so many things from him, she should give him some sort of response, both emotionally and logically.

After some thought, she packed Zhou Cheng’s previous money together with this batch into the envelope and began writing a letter.

All she wanted now was to focus on making money; dating was not something she had much interest in, nor did she want to waste his time.

But turning him down directly seemed inappropriate, so she pondered some more and decided to be a bit indirect.

With half a letter page, she scratched her head and wrote for half an hour before finishing. She checked it once, finding no problems, and tucked the letter back into the envelope.

"Third Sis, it’s time to eat!"

At that moment, there was a knock at the door, and Su Jianwu poked his furry head through the gap and his eyes sneaked towards her desk.

"Stop looking, there’s no food."

Su Xiaoxiao saw through his thoughts and spoke up.

Su Jianwu looked a bit disappointed; it was more practical to send food, and they could get a taste too.

Su Xiaoxiao didn’t know what he was thinking, ruffled his hair: "Come on, let’s eat."

The two headed to the main room, where the table was already set with three dishes and a soup, one meat and two vegetables, very sumptuous.

Since managing the canteen at the general store, their family’s days had visibly improved.

The always stingy Liu Cuilan had become much more generous.

Little Stone was being held by Xu Zhaodi, a half bowl of egg custard in front of him, opening his mouth urgently to be fed.

For someone his size, he sure ate quickly.

Xu Zhaodi had just spooned some custard into his mouth when he opened wide for more.

If fed too late, he’d wave his little chubby hands like he was about to grab the spoon and feed himself.

Su Xiaoxiao was watching with amusement until she suddenly realized that the braised pork in the middle of the table had mysteriously disappeared halfway.

Upon further inspection, wow, the two rascals were grabbing at the meat as if they had never tasted it before, happily devouring.

Su Xiaoxiao hurriedly picked up a piece.

This braised pork was soft, flavorful, and truly delicious.

Just as she was about to go for a second piece, she saw the plate had only one piece left, with two pairs of chopsticks simultaneously grabbing at it, refusing to yield.

Su Xiaoxiao: "..."

Oh well, her two little brothers were still growing, she could eat the vegetables just the same.

Though she gave up, the two of them only argued more fervently.

Each had grabbed an end of the meat, their gazes clashing, almost breaking brotherhood over a piece of meat.

Liu Cuilan couldn’t bear watching, life’s gotten better for them, and they could have meat every now and then, but their behavior hadn’t changed.

She promptly used the chopsticks to smack their hands: "Behaving as if you’ve never had meat, making a spectacle."

The two little brothers winced from the pain and released their chopsticks, causing the braised pork to fall back onto the plate with a thud.

Liu Cuilan swiftly picked it up and placed it into Su Xiaoxiao’s bowl: "The third one, this meat is for you."

Su Xiaoxiao looked at the meat, touched by three pairs of lips, and couldn’t quite bring herself to eat it.

Moreover, she had just watched as her mom rinsed the chopsticks in her mouth before picking up the meat.

She tactfully suggested: "Mom, you work the hardest in our family, you should enjoy the last piece."

As she spoke, she transferred the meat back to Liu Cuilan’s bowl.

Liu Cuilan was touched, glaring at the two troublemakers: "At least my daughter is considerate, hmph!"

She immediately put the meat in her mouth, yes, meat picked by a daughter certainly tasted better.

Just as she chewed a couple of times, there came a sudden knocking on the door from outside.
