Chapter 125: The usual
Chapter 125: The usual
The wet-skin monster attacked again. It was so swift that all I could see were skinny hands and a bloated body. It wasn’t looking to kill me but to push me into the attack of the snow spider.
I covered my sword in aura, and when I saw the monster flicker toward me like a shadow, I executed a technique that made the space around me choke full of aura. The moment the monster entered it, all the aura turned into blade beams and blasted it away.
Without even looking back to see if the monster was dead, I leaped and focused on the joint. All the damage I had been doing led to this single attack. It was like strategically weakening part of a building to create a deliberate weakness for controlled collapse.
I brought my sword down with brutal force, and once it bit in, I released the aura I was holding—and bam! The joint exploded, throwing rotting meat into the air.
Ryker grimaced. Dark substances I didn’t want to know covered him. "This is why no one likes you, Necromancer. You spread even more disease than pests. Isn’t that right, Kaelith?"
Kaelith was holding a sword made of bones. "That was the strongest monster I have currently. I’ve not prepared the rest; I thought I had more time."
"Come, let’s end this."
"You’re really going to fight me with a sword?" Ryker raised his brows but did as the Necromancer requested.
In the end, Kaelith lay bowed, his bone sword broken, and Ryker handed him an instant mana-eating potion. "I’m really happy, Kaelith. To think you’ll be useful for me. My own stepping stone to promotion."
"Enjoy it while you can, Tower Guard. Do you think I’ll rot in that prison?"
Ryker shrugged. "Do what you like, but maybe you’re underestimating yourself. Your cult isn’t the strongest, and its influence decreases as one climbs the Tower.
"Anyway, what does it matter? If you stay in prison, get killed, or are freed, I’ll still get my promotion. Now then, I better go meet with Thayer Argent, the one you nearly killed. Oh, by the way, don’t you think that boy’s father will want you in prison?"
Ryker dragged Kaelith toward Thayer, who was in a business talk with Lord Owen, a cup in hand. Together, we all waited for the shield to be lifted.
"The suspect, Kaelith the Blood Necromancer have been charged into the Judgment department of the Tower Guard for being in an illegal organizations. And for attack and trying to kill Thayer Argent of the Argent.
"His accomplice, Lord Owen have already received the death since he has confessed. We are trying our best to track the rest...."
Litha stopped and raised her brows at the rest of our team. "Even the Tower Guards isn’t here for the people. Fortunately they keep our parts secret. Not that they want the Tower to know you guys practically do their work for them."
It’s been five days since the incident and we are in the biggest room in one of the Argent’s hotels. Since it’s part of our contract we’ve been holed up here since that night.
Temur snorted. "What does it matter? We don’t want them to pin anything on us anyway. And besides, let Argent get his limelight as his Gold team will be recognized through this for helping the Tower Guards."
Things moved fast after that because the rest of Ryker’s men were standing guard outside and quickly poured in to answer their Captain’s call.
But Kaelith wasn’t the only one arrested that night, Ryker used the opportunity to clean the Town. All the smaller organizations connected to Kaelith were raided and the people working for Lord Ola as well.
Even the underground where Kaelith bought his slaves. In this way, the Tower Guards also got a bit of more power in floor 101. I shook my head, all the death they caused that night was swept under the rug.
"And the boy is sucking it up!" I said. "He’s busy all through, from one meeting to another. He’s really using the opportunity to sell more of his Guild. I’m surprised his father haven’t shown up yet though."
"I doubt he’ll show, from what I understand his father wants to leave him alone with his climbing and his Guild building." Litha said. "Unless absolutely necessary, but then again that’s just my guess."
"And yet Thayer won’t stop throwing his name around, that crafty bastard." I yawned.
We talked some more, since five days ago that the incident happened this is the first time we be staying together for the whole day, because we have been in constant meeting with the Tower Guards.
Although our names was removed from the official investigation and findings, Ryker still need us to put together his report. And so far everything is going smoothly, the Tower Guards and the Gold Guild took the credit.
A win win situation for everyone.
Litha is also recovering fast, the only thing she need is food and rest and she’s been having a lot of it but the reason she made sure the three of us gather this morning is because of an important news. "It’s been decided that the floor test will happen by the end of the month which is in a week’s time."
She wasn’t worried about training, the adventures we’ve had this previous weeks better be enough to pass the test. "In my absence, I heard that you boys spent all of our money. So we are back to the beginning."
I cleared my throat. "The money was spent on...."
Litha smiled brightly. "On me, thank you very much guys. But we have a problem to face. We need money, we need to prepare for the test. Food, potions, weapons and the essentials. Meaning we have to make money as fast as possible.
"This floor Test is important, it’s determine a lot of things for us so I want us to as prepared as we can. We also have to prepare for the immediate expenses of the next floor. Things are going to be even more expensive."
Temur sighed. "So the usual?"
Litha exchanged looks with me and nodded. "Yes, the usual."
