Assistant Manager Kim Hates Idols

Chapter 318: Honest Review

Chapter 318: Honest Review

As soon as Lee Cheonghyeon and Lee Soohoon got out of the car, the members burst out of the opposite vehicle. Leading the charge was, of course, Kim Iwol.

Seeing the reddish tint around Lee Cheonghyeon’s eyes, Kim Iwol grabbed Lee Cheonghyeon’s cheeks and asked.

“Did you cry?”

Then, he shot a fierce glare at Lee Soohoon. Lee Cheonghyeon joked that he was going to suffer some gold loss at this rate, which only made Kim Iwol glare harder.

After an awkward exchange of farewell, Lee Soohoon left. At his words that he had to hurry back to study, Lee Cheonghyeon urged him on his way.

In the car back to Seoul, Lee Cheonghyeon peered into the shopping bags and grumbled for a long time.

“None of the bread Joowoo hyung’s sister recommended is here! He totally just copied what other people were grabbing.”

“How does he even know my size to just send me clothes without a receipt? I can’t even exchange them.”

“Seriously, what kind of high school student gets gifted such stuffy dress shoes…?”

And yet, Lee Cheonghyeon carefully put all the items back into the bag.It felt as if a very old grudge was finally being resolved.

Even if Lee Soohoon forgot to call out Lee Kangmyeong’s speech habit, Lee Cheonghyeon decided he would no longer resent his older brother.

≫ In-person review of Spark (Proof included)

This is a review from someone who was in about the 3rd row, I went to a friend’s school festival and had to be there before sunset to save a seat

First off, this was my first time seeing Spark. I don’t know who’s who. I just pulled up their profile on the green search bar to write this review

The most amazing was Jeho (the tallest one, right?) lol. When he came out, I couldn’t see anyone else. He dances so f*cking well

And Cheonghyeon is unbelievably handsome… why isn’t he famous yet? He has a face that’s destined for fame. Has word just not gotten out to the non-fans yet?

Their banter in the middle was good too. It seemed they prepared a lot, and they were good at hosting.

I think they sang six songs? I haven’t been to many university festivals and I barely watch the performances so I didn’t know, but six songs is super generous, right…? The singers who came on after them all did two or three songs and filled the rest of the time with talk, so I was like, ‘Oh, so Spark sang a lot of songs~’.

But the kids are really handsome. They’re also super tall, so my neck hurt a bit from looking up, but maybe it’s because it was my first time seeing idols this close. They’re on another level

They can sing well too. I don’t know anything about Spark, but they sang New World, so I sang along to that at least. It felt like a real festival, which was nice. hehe

Just one bad review: there was barely anything to eat. I wish they had more food trucks.

└ Lee Cheonghyeon has already conquered the male idol scene with his faceㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

└└ Oh for real? I guess it would’ve been weirder if he was still unknown

└ Ah, I’m so jealous ㅠㅠ It’s Spark’s first university festival

└ Really?? They were so good.

└ They’ve done some regional events, but yeah, it’s their first university festival.

└ the only ‘bad review’ isn’t even about Spark ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

≫ The idol whose brother is a Kaist student.zip

Spark’s Cheonghyeon

He went to the festival and asked everyone to take good care of his brotherㅋㅋㅋ

+ He’s a gifted student himself and had prepared for it

└ Looks like his family is a family of elitesㅋㅋㅋㅋ

└ Lee Cheonghyeon got 2nd place on that quiz showㅋㅋ

└ A kid who was prepping for a gifted high school got 2nd place…?

└ It couldn’t be helped… his opponent was an S-University regular admission fighter

└ It’s tough to become an idol these days

└ Nah, the family feud is what’s tough. The two of them were on the same teamㅋㅋㅋ

≫ Isn’t this basically the summary of Spark at Kaist today?

Napjagi: Oh, Magic Conch Iwol!!! Will the Hanwha Eagles be able to win?!?!

Iwol Conch: NO.

└ Please ㅋㅋㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

└ ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

└ Judging by comments like this, Spark’s getting popular even among non-fans

└ That’s because Iwol basically owns short-form platforms now…

└ The man who put down roots everywhere before he was even chosen by the algorithm…

I couldn’t laugh at the last comment. Because seeing myself everywhere was truly a terrible thing.

The office worker algorithm showed Do Younghwan. The satisfying-call-out-compilation showed Kim Iwol yelling at the ‘Worry Sharing Session’. The heavy-drinkers-compilation showed a certain rookie idol, Mr. Kim, with a straw in a soju bottle.

It had gotten to the point where no matter what the algorithm threw at me, Kim Iwol was bound to pop up. My face was so well-known, I wouldn’t need to organize a warehouse.

Wanting to escape this stifling reality, I turned off my phone. In the living room, even though it was getting late, Park Joowoo and Kang Kiyeon were sitting upright on the floor watching a famous interview program.

‘Huh?’

I was just going to get a glass of water and head in, but the interviewee’s face on the screen looked familiar. Mr. Gu Jahan was on TV.

“Why are you guys watching this?”

“We were just flipping through channels to see if there was anything fun on, and he came on.”

Kang Kiyeon answered. So you’re watching this because you find it fun?

“He’s starting a new project…”

Park Joowoo added. Mr. Gu Jahan had been mulling over a script late last year, so it seemed he was starting his promotional tour.

『You’ve been playing leading roles, but I hear you’ve taken on a supporting role for the first time in a while.』

『Yes. I’m approaching it with the mindset of learning from scratch all over again.』

His posture was still arrogant, but his words were polite. I found an empty spot on the end of the sofa and sat down.

He went on about acting philosophy and self-improvement. Still, he seemed to have moved past his narcissism.

“If you’re going to watch something, watch something useful. Like a health tips show or…”

『Most of all, I owe a lot to Mr. Iwol.』

I was looking for the remote when I heard my name from the speakers. I chose to believe I was hearing things.

『Mr. Iwol, you mean the actor who played Do Younghwan in ‘In My Office,’ right?』

『That’s right. Have you seen it, by any chance?』

『I haven’t seen the whole drama, but I’ve seen the clips, and he was hilarious!』

『It was a unique role. We laughed a lot on set as well.』

But it wasn’t my imagination. My hearing was fine, and my face and name were plastered across the screen in huge letters.

“Seongbin, hyung is being mentioned on TV…!”

“Really?”

Hearing the extra-special news, Jeong Seongbin came out of his room, abandoning his homework. You guys are idols. Why are you so amazed to see me on TV? It’s not even me, just a mention of me!

『Mr. Iwol gave me a lot of advice in choosing this project as well.』

『It seems you two discuss projects a lot?』

『I’m the one who frequently asks for advice. He’s probably annoyed with me for contacting him so much.』

Gu Jahan said, playing it up. This dirty, cheap showman. How dare you deceive the public in front of a camera?

“Hyung, were you that close with Gu Jahan sunbaenim…?”

“He even sent you a birthday present, hyung. But I didn’t know you were close enough for him to say that.”

See. Someone’s already fallen for it.

The righteous Mr. Kim Iwol will not forgive you. Even if a question like ‘Are you close with Gu Jahan sunbaenim?’ pops up in the comment section, I’m going to pretend I don’t see it. Not that I haven’t already been doing that.

『Does Mr. Iwol have a good eye for projects?』

『He has great insight. And a broad perspective. Sometimes I wonder if I’m not talking to someone my own age.』

『How many years apart are you and Mr. Iwol?』

『More than ten years.』

『Wouldn’t you normally be the one in the position to give advice in a situation like this?』

『I realized that’s not always the case. Since then, I haven’t hesitated to listen to advice.』

『That must have brought some changes to your world of acting, Mr. Gu.』

『I’m not so sure about that yet. But the CEO of my agency seems to like it.』

The people on screen laughed warmly. I was the only one sitting there like a robot, as if all my laughter had been stolen away.

Don’t mention me unless you’re promoting Spark! If you keep this up, I’ll look up the price of that coat and pay you back in gift certificates!

As if my pent-up frustration had reached him, Mr. Gu Jahan dutifully mentioned Spark as well.

『That friend is also in charge of producing for his team. When I listen to Mr. Iwol, I think to myself, ‘Ah, the team this friend is in charge of will do well too.’』

『Is that so?』

『Because he’s capable. More than anything, he doesn’t make choices that fail. I think Mr. Iwol’s greatest strength is his ability to make the best choice in any given moment.』

『That’s high praise. Mr. Iwol would be happy if he were watching.』

『He’s probably not watching, don’t you think? He’s a friend who lives his days as if they were 48 hours long. It would be a relief if he’s not organizing some kind of meeting documents again.』

The trio sitting on the floor nodded.

I asked him to promote Spark, and all he did was spout useless nonsense.

I’d better hurry up and make a comeback just to shut that guy up. If he was going to spout nonsense, I might as well tell him to use that energy to promote Spark’s comeback.

There were phrases like ‘When it comes to summer, it’s ○○’ or ‘The symbol of winter, ○○○’.

It was a strategy aimed at creating a sort of imprinting effect by consistently releasing music in a specific season. For summer and winter, which had strong seasonal identities, the competition to earn these titles became all the more fierce.

On the other hand, Spring was advantageous for singers who released love songs or ballads. The fresh atmosphere that spring brought and the pink seasonal vibe of the cherry blossoms left a unique impression that couldn’t be found in other seasons.

So, Spark decided to rob the empty house. In May, a month when everyone was busy performing at events but not making comebacks.

In fact, making a comeback during this season was a strategy we’d planned since last year.

The season transitioning from spring to summer, where the last spring breeze and the strengthening sunlight coexisted. A time when people, who had been looking at flowers, started making their way to the water. Wasn’t it just perfect for creating refreshing visuals?

‘The visual beauty of ‘With List’ was breathtaking, too.’

A glamorous month with many holidays, full of memories of happy times spent with family, and festivals everywhere. Spark planned to monopolize this May.

“Wow, Jeho hyung really looks like a character straight out of an apocalypse game!”

…The concept wasn’t exactly peaceful, though.

Choi Jeho took off his gas mask. We all huddled together in front of the monitor, checking out the shoot that looked like a video game wallpaper. You could almost feel the dusty air through the screen.

Please wait, Sparklers. A May that’s anything but green is coming……
