Chapter 44: Leader

Chapter 44: Leader

The Raider looked at Kaix, wondering how Kao knew about the fact that if he died he would be banished. He gritted his teeth hard. He was simply a no-name player that needed people to be with, so he chose to join the organization.

"Tch." He clicked his tongue, angry that he was going to talk. "The boss is headed for the town center, his real goal is something at the town center."

"Town center, huh? That’s where the chairman’s house should be." Kai muttered and threw the guy to the ground. "Leave now and don’t cause any more harm."

After speaking, he turned around and left with Mora following behind, when suddenly the man pulled out something from his inventory, a crystal, and was ready to toss it at Kai.

Mira sensed it. She looked back and instantly allowed Cuddles to go. Cuddles leaped from her hands, transforming into a massive wolf. The man had no time to even shout before Cuddles bit right into his head and dragged him into the alleyway.

Kai stopped when he heard something. He looked back and only saw Mira behind him. The man had vanished as well.

"Seems he ran fast," Kai muttered. He then noticed that she didn’t have Cuddles, so he immediately asked.

"Where is Cuddles?"

"Oh, he went around the alley to take a quick pee," she replied calmly, like she had that already prepared. Cuddles rushed out of the corner again and leaped into her arms.

Kai didn’t think much of it. He simply turned around and kept moving. Cuddles leaped back into her hands, she patted his head and then followed behind.

At the same time, in a small one-person apartment, a young man who was sitting in a makeshift pod with a virtual helmet on his head removed it, his face full of shock.

"What the hell?" he asked in confusion. "After the wolf attacked me, I got kicked out. I didn’t even respawn. What the hell is even happening?"

He immediately placed the headset back and tried to log in again, but even after trying the second time, he couldn’t access his account anymore, it was completely gone.

He pulled the headset off and hurled it at the wall with all his strength, filled with anger and pure rage.

"Arghhhhh! What the heck happened?" he screamed. His account couldn’t just have vanished like that. He got to his feet and tried to leave his room, but then collapsed to the ground, passing out right there.

Kai headed for the manor at the center of the town, where the chairman stayed. He looked up and saw the manor standing in the distance. The raiders were currently taking down the guards that were around the building, trying to force their way into the manor.

"Mira, can you ensure that you don’t get into the range of any fight? Ensure that you keep yourself safe," Kao instructed.

She nodded as usual and stepped to the side, allowing him to get closer.

The moment some raiders noticed Kai, they immediately turned to him.

"Seems we didn’t take down one of the newbies, haha," one of them spoke, sounding prideful. He stepped forward casually. "Hey, your armor looks pretty good, how about I get that?" he asked.

"How about I shove a blade up your ass and out your mouth?" Kai asked.

The man’s face instantly twitched. His friends instantly burst into laughter, pointing at him.

This infuriated the raider even more. He clenched his fist. "I’ll make you pay for that. I’ll show you guys who you messed with." He spoke and then summoned his weapon, and a two-handed battle axe appeared.

"Say hello to Rita." His voice oozed with pride. "She will be the axe that lops off your head."

"Uhm, okay, I guess." Kai replied like he didn’t care at all, and even this made the raider even more infuriated. He lunged forward to attack, but Kai wasn’t having any of that right now. He immediately used his spell Lightning Fall, and massive bolts fell from the sky, slamming right into the group, completely evaporating them.

"I’m sadly not in the mood for shenanigans." Kai muttered and kept walking, heading for the leader.

His actions caught the attention of the raiders up ahead, and the leader was amongst them.

He was a tall, middle-aged-looking man with completely white hair and silver eyes, a sharp gaze and a well-chiseled face. He was really something to look at.

He had a stunning build that even from under his clothes could be seen. Kai could immediately tell that this man was some sort of warrior, especially after seeing the longsword on his back.

"You," the man said, shocked to see Kai. "I’m pretty sure Gamela promised to handle you," he said.

"Oh, seems you know me," Kai said casually.

"Tch, what is a powerful player like you doing in a town like this?" the man asked.

"Uhm, I don’t really know. I’m just here, and I’m fighting for it. Now I don’t know what you want here, but I want to beg you to step back and retreat, please," Kai pleaded. He was tired of fighting already.

The man looked at him for a few seconds and then chuckled. "Sorry, it doesn’t work like that," he said calmly. He pulled his sword. "I don’t know why Gamela left you alive, but I don’t like when people distract my work," he said.

"Tch, she didn’t leave me, we fought to a stalemate and then she walked away. See, I like her because she left when she felt it was enough, but you guys are just causing havoc here and I don’t even know why," Kai said.

"You fought Gamela into a stalemate?" the man asked in shock, but then burst into laughter with all his men. "There is no way Gamela would draw against any player. She is one of the strongest players in the game currently. It’s impossible for her to have drawn with you, no matter who you are."
