Chapter 362: You disagree? Dare you fight me?
Chapter 362: You disagree? Dare you fight me?
Yes, they are black beetle corpses. The ground around the entire base is covered with beetle corpses for a hundred meters, piled higher than a person.
How many beetles must there be? There are probably at least a hundred billion beetle corpses here! And many of these black beetles are covered with white spots, which makes Alexander almost drool.
These kinds of beetle corpses could produce dozens of Ghost Pills each. Unfortunately, even if these beetle corpses are real, Alexander has no Ghost Energy or talents at the moment, and even his Ghost Treasures like the storage ring have disappeared.
With only a short dagger at his waist and the strange gun in his hand, he has no way to convert these beetle corpses.
Suppressing his excitement, Alexander follows Sofia, heading towards one of the high platforms. Several soldiers are stationed on either side of the platform, vigilantly surveying the surroundings.
When they see Alexander and the others approaching, one of the soldiers coldly huffs in dissatisfaction, "You finally arrived! Every time it’s your turn to change shifts, you dawdle until the last minute. Like leader, like team."
Sofia immediately retorts defiantly, "Mind your own business! Didn’t your leader also arrive at the last second? His timing skills are far better than my teacher’s."
Seeing that the speaker is Sofia, the soldier mumbles a few words, seemingly embarrassed to argue further, and makes way for them.
Alexander’s team of nine, except for Sofia and another female soldier, quickly take the positions of the sentries. Sofia and the other female soldier, along with Alexander, head towards the platform.
On the platform, there are three men in military uniforms, the leader of whom is clearly the Kalin deputy leader, dressed like Alexander.
He ignores Alexander and fawns over Sofia, "Sofia, you’re here! Why didn’t you sleep a bit longer? I could have had someone cover your shift! And you too, Xiao. Sleep is very important for girls!"
Alexander immediately understands why Sofia said they don’t get along. There are very few female soldiers in the base, especially on the walls. Kalin’s team doesn’t have any women, and Kalin seems to be in his twenties, hence the friction with Alexander.
Shaking his head and sighing inwardly, Alexander doesn’t hold back his words, "Deputy leader Kalin, there’s no need for you to fawn over my team members! It’s time to change shifts, so please proceed. Sleep is very important for you too!"
Hearing this, Sofia and the girl named Xiao can’t help but laugh. Alexander’s retort is obviously mocking Kalin’s manhood.
"Alexander, how dare you insult me!"Kalin is furious, staring at Alexander, "Do you think this is before the apocalypse? Your so-called genius knowledge, can it kill those damned beetles? You’re alive only because you hid behind these two women. Otherwise, someone like you would’ve died in a beetle swarm long ago!"
Before Alexander can respond, Sofia speaks up in his defense, ’My teacher has never backed down. If it weren’t for his timely discovery during the last beetle wave, the beetles would have breached our defenses!’
"That’s because your team is too weak!" Kalin retorts disdainfully, "If it weren’t for his pre-apocalypse official position, how could a scientist like him become a leader? You disagree? Dare you fight me?"
"Sofia!" Alexander interrupted Sofia, who was about to argue back, and shook his head, "Don’t waste Team Leader kalin’s time. After all, he’s in a hurry to go back and get his beauty sleep!"
Fighting? Alexander, as a friendly and peace-loving person, wouldn’t easily engage in a one-on-one fight.
Moreover, even without his Ghost Energy and with the strength of an ordinary person, his experience and insight as a former Ghost Emperor remained. Fighting a regular person would be beneath him.
However, just because Alexander didn’t want to fight didn’t mean the other party would comply. Hearing Alexander’s mockery, Kalin became furious and threw a punch at Alexander’s face.
Alexander swiftly sidestepped, grabbed Kalin’s wrist, and yanked him forward. Kalin tried to break free and stepped forward to counter the momentum, but Alexander swiftly turned, holding Kalin’s neck and delivering a heavy kick to his ankle.
Kalin, caught by the neck and hit on the ankle, kneeled on the ground. Before he could react, he heard the sound of a blade. A cold, sharp knife was then pressed against the back of his head.
"Stop!" "Don’t!" came the cries from the women nearby, while the two soldiers accompanying Kalin tightened their grip on their silver guns.
"Breaking the rules by using weapons in a camp fight!" Kalin, with the blade against his head, dared not move but roared in anger.
"I never agreed to your challenge. Your attack was unprovoked, so I had to defend myself fully," Alexander replied coldly, sheathing his short knife and observing the faint forbidden energy on it. "If you want to complain, go ahead."
Kalin, livid, took a while before responding, "I won’t stoop to tattling over something so trivial. But I’ll remember this incident. I’ll get back at you for this!"
"Fine by me!" Alexander shrugged indifferently, "I’m waiting! As long as you think you can beat me, I’m always ready."
Alexander’s words made Kalin’s face even uglier. Though Alexander had used a weapon, Kalin had to admit that even if Alexander had just punched him in the head, he wouldn’t have been able to withstand it.
In fact, Alexander using the knife made his loss less embarrassing. However, Kalin, determined not to lose face, huffed, "You wait! Next time, I’ll make sure you kneel and call me daddy!"
With that, Kalin picked up his gun, gestured to his men, and walked off the platform.
"Teacher, you’re so amazing! I never knew you were so skilled in martial arts!" Sofia exclaimed excitedly as soon as Kalin left.
"If you call me teacher and still don’t know my capabilities, then that’s a problem," Alexander joked.
"I call you ’Master’ because you tutored me in school before the apocalypse! I never imagined that you were also skilled in martial arts. Master, you are not only a genius in academics, recognized throughout the entire federation, but also incredibly adept in combat. It’s outrageous that even your most beloved disciple didn’t know this!" Sofia spoke without any suspicion, her voice tinged with playful reproach.
"I know more than you might think!" Alexander said, his mind racing to figure out how to extract more information about his identity from this convenient disciple.
However, before he could think of a way, a sharp whistle suddenly sounded from the high platform on the southern wall of the base. The sound caused everyone’s faces to change, and even Kalin, who had just stepped down from the platform, hurried back in alarm.
On the platform, Xiao quickly moved to a large telescope at the edge, took a look, and then stood up, urgently saying, "It’s a beetle swarm, a beetle swarm is coming!"
Inside the base, sharp alarm bells began to ring, and soldiers armed with long guns emerged from their tents, quickly heading towards the walls.
Towers rose slowly from the ground within the base, their bases made of the same white stones seen on the city walls, inlaid with beetle corpses, forming a pattern resembling electrical wires leading to the top. The very tops of these towers were fitted with cannon barrels of the same material.
"Prepare for battle, everyone prepare for battle!" Kalin, running towards the platform, ordered loudly. Similar commands were issued from the surrounding walls.
Alexander couldn’t focus on Kalin taking over at this point. He quickly stepped forward and looked through the telescope. In the distant sky, a dark cloud was rapidly approaching.
Even without his Ghost Energy, Alexander’s sharp vision could easily distinguish that the speed of these beetles was at least at the level of evil spirits, and their numbers covered the sky and land.
This realization caused his heart to sink. Evil spirit level beetles would be a joke in the Horror World.
Even in the real world, if most of these black beetles were at the evil spirit level, they would have been exterminated by survivors long ago, leaving no need for Alexander to intervene. However, in this base, he hadn’t seen any soldier with Ghost Energy.
These small, black beetles blanketing the sky were clearly not something that could be dealt with by the silver guns in their hands unless those guns fired something other than bullets, like a wide-range shockwave.
Given that, where did the vast number of beetle corpses outside the city come from? How could these people have survived a beetle swarm attack with their limited numbers?
Alexander doubted that the two layers of iron nets, resembling pot lids, could stop this endless swarm. Even if the forbidden energy on the nets was poisonous to the beetles, the sheer number of insects could burst through the nets by sheer force.
While pondering, the sound of wings beating like a tsunami reached his ears. The beetle swarm was already visible at the horizon, rapidly approaching the base like a flash flood.
