Chapter 350: The counterattack was about to begin!
Several Ghost Emperors, upon seeing the endless dark shadows, could only surrender!
Ultimately, the city gates flung wide open, and ten million ghost soldiers swiftly advanced, adeptly taking control of the situation.
Both Su Rong and Annie’s approaches were nearly identical, aiming for the quickest takeover of the city. Most of their subordinates were seasoned members, highly experienced in such matters, quickly integrating the ghost citizens to form an overwhelming army.
In the real world, beneath a thick layer of white mist, lay a desolate city. The once bustling city had now turned into a ghost town, with traces of beetle ravages everywhere.
The green belts along the streets were completely devoured, and the high-rise walls and billboards, once adorned with posters, were pockmarked with damage from the beetles. Even through the dense white mist, one could see a giant black structure standing in the city center.
This was the so-called Eiffel Tower, now covered in layers of dense, swarming black beetles, turning it entirely black.
These beetles lay quietly, occasionally small groups would fly out in search of something, and at times, swarms would return from afar. The thick mist not only obstructed the survivors’ view but also served as the best barrier.
Several kilometers away, numerous survivors, like holding giant bricks, stood excitedly.
The counterattack was about to begin!
From the arrival of the black beetle tide, in just over a dozen days, it felt like a terrifying, apocalyptic event from a movie, one that destroyed the civilized world that humanity had built over thousands of years.
These black beetles represented deep-seated hatred for every survivor – their relatives, friends, even parents, spouses, and children, all perished under the beetles’ sharp teeth, devoured alive.
This hatred was etched deep into their bones.
Previously, when facing the beetles, the survivors had organized hunting squads, but this ’hunting’ was merely a small consolation in their despair.
They could only deal with the abandoned or occasionally isolated beetles. Even so, each hunt was a life-and-death ordeal, the deep-seated hatred and the feeling of powerlessness against this terrifying force accumulated in every survivor’s heart. It was like a raging fire burning incessantly within them.
But the tide of beetles was too powerful, an insurmountable mountain standing before all the survivors. They would have risked everything for even a glimmer of hope, but against the beetle tide, they had no chance of resistance.
Now, finally, there was an opportunity!
Everyone was suppressing their rage, barely holding back from charging forward. With the help of Cain and others’ talents, the encirclement quickly shrank to its limit, and everyone silently waited for Alexander’s command.
"All survivors, pay attention!"
Alexander’s voice ignited a high fighting spirit in all the survivors. The blood in their veins seemed to be set ablaze by his words, and the flames roared through their bodies, with Ghost Energy surging unrestrainedly.
Humming...
Feeling the fluctuations of Ghost Energy, the distant tide of beetles exploded instantly. Over three million black beetles spread their wings, covering the entire sky.
The spreading beetles instantly spotted the survivors converging from all directions. Enticed by the scent of food, they disregarded their usual caution, and all the beetles swiftly charged towards the nearest survivors.
With incredible speed, the beetles reached the survivors in the blink of an eye.
Not a single survivor made a move; they were still waiting, waiting for the command from the person they revered as much as Thorneblade.
Finally, as the first beetle attacking a survivor lunged forward, Alexander’s icy voice echoed in the ears of all survivors.
"Kill!"
The shout, like a tsunami, scattered the mist. Huge bricks, imbued with the towering rage of millions of survivors, were fiercely hurled at the swarm of beetles.
Boom, boom, boom!
A series of loud explosions shook the entire Magic City, creating countless large pits on the ground, each filled with the flattened bodies of black beetles.
Every survivor exerted all their strength, fiercely propelling the bricks in their hands. Bricks, typically a low-grade weapon seldom used in street fights, now formed a terrifying storm of firepower, igniting everyone’s blood and venting the fury of a hundred million survivors.
Out of the three million beetles, only about fifty thousand, mostly King-level beetles, survived the first barrage of brick rain.
With a third of them being King-level, including as many as ten thousand Imperials and thirty thousand Emperors, the power of this beetle tide was formidable. For every hundred beetles, there was one Emperor-level beetle, showcasing the horrifying strength of a million-strong beetle tide.
But against a hundred million enraged survivors, wielding bricks filled with infinite hatred, even this terrifying tide was doomed.
The second wave, the third wave...
Wave after wave of brick rain fell crazily, collapsing even the Eiffel Tower instantly. The entire ground was caving in, and the vast city faced the most terrifying, man-made earthquake in its history.
No beetle could survive under such intense brick rain, not even the Emperor-level ones, which lasted only through three waves. After the third wave, only a few hundred dazed beetles remained, fluttering in the air.
For the survivors, the presence of beetles was no longer important; they were merely venting their anger, their accumulated hatred and helplessness, continuously swinging their bricks, until a familiar voice echoed once again in the sky.
"Stop! There are no more living beetles!"
Alexander’s voice instantly halted everyone. Looking around at the ruins, at the massive pits with their rock-hard ground now covered in flattened beetle corpses, everyone seemed to awaken from a dream.
"We won! We have won! We’ve annihilated millions of beetles! Father, do you see? We’ve won, your vengeance, your son has avenged you!" a middle-aged man shouted ecstatically towards the sky.
"Child, your dad was powerless, I couldn’t even protect your body! These damned black beetles are all dead now, my daughter!" a man in his twenties knelt, clutching his head and wailing in front of the pit.
"My dear Jack, you sacrificed yourself to save me! You always said we’d win one day, do you know how much I hate you? Hate you for leaving me alone, for lying to me until the end!" a beautiful girl, disregarding her disheveled clothes, clutched the necklace her boyfriend had given her, tears sliding down her cheeks:
"Now I believe! But what about you? Why don’t you come back, come back to see our victory, come back to personally shred these beetles that destroyed everything for us!"
"We’ve won! Haha, these damned beetles, this damned world, we’ve finally won! Hahaha..." An elderly survivor, looking at the pit full of beetle corpses, laughed aloud. As he laughed, tears streamed down his face, seemingly unnoticed.
