Chapter 313: Now, it was finally its turn to shine!
The moment Lei’s gaze fell on Zoe, his pupils abruptly constricted. "Dead? What are you talking about?"
Upon hearing Lei’s words, the man in the suit instinctively began to turn around. Alexander and Zoe exchanged a glance, both recognizing the resignation and intent in each other’s eyes.
Strike!
With a soft thud, the Underworld Sword’s sharp tip penetrated through, protruding from the chest of the man in the suit.
The glinting blade, unstained by blood, carried a torrent of Ghost Energy laced with forbiddance. It detonated inside the man, severing his life force in an instant.
The next moment, a tempest of blizzards filled with a hundred thousand blades burst forth. Several gang members in the corridor, who had been busy decorating, were instantly slain.
"Participants!" From a relative distance, Lei immediately entered his Rampage State, black Ghost Energy spewing forth. While he couldn’t stop the endless blades, he managed to slow down death for a moment.
That moment allowed him to shout out Alexander’s identity, triggering Rampage State awakenings among hundreds of Dominic’s men in the restaurant.
"Your turn!" Seeing a swarm of natives engulfed in Ghost Energy charge from the restaurant, including some at the King and even Imperial levels, Alexander swiftly retreated.
One must know how to assess the situation. If it had been one or two, even at the Imperial level, Alexander would have taken them on. But against such a number of awakened natives, it was wise to defer to Zoe.
The corridor was not spacious, and each room along it was also open, being prepared for the banquet. Including the restaurant, dozens of men swarmed out, all targeting Alexander and Zoe.
The scene was overwhelmingly lavish, featuring three Ghost Imperials and numerous Kings.
Faced with so many natives, Zoe showed not a shred of fear. Her Ghost Energy surged, and her form began to fade.
"It’s you! It’s actually you!"
In an instant, the eyes of all the charging natives turned blood-red, their gazes fixed intently on Zoe, who seemed ghost-like. Upon awakening into their Rampage State, they had instantly recalled all their memories from the cycles.
At that moment, they recognized Zoe as the very instigator of their endless, repetitious suffering across these cycles. A torrential hatred surged within them, so consuming that they forgot Alexander entirely and charged recklessly towards Zoe.
Zoe, already a phantom-like figure, tilted her head back slightly and let out a high-pitched sound resembling a dolphin’s squeal.
The noise emerged from her mouth like a tsunami, a cascade of sound waves rushing in every direction. Around Alexander, a barrier materialized—clearly Zoe’s doing, not his own.
Within this barrier, he was spared from hearing Zoe’s soul-piercing scream. However, he saw the physical waves of sound—like ocean tides—spread across the room.
As the sound waves washed over them, the natives charging at them were frozen in place as if time-stopped. All glass objects, porcelain, even tables and frames shattered in an instant. Splinters of wood and shards of glass floated in the corridor.
Then, those paralyzed natives began to vibrate with an almost imperceptible yet rapid oscillation. Following this vibration, blood began to ooze from their mouths, noses, ears, and even eyes.
Gradually, the blood wasn’t just escaping from their orifices but also from every pore in their bodies. Tiny fissures appeared on their skin, with their spewing Ghost Energy mixing with the blood that flowed through these miniature cracks.
Muffled thuds sounded as one native body after another fell to the ground.
The three Ghost Imperials didn’t die immediately; they were left half-kneeling on the ground, panting heavily.
From the rear, several of the natives who had rushed out from the dining hall were blasted back inside by the sonic waves. Those below the King level died instantly, and even the Ghost Kings suffered severe injuries.
"Everyone, attack! Kill that wretched woman! It’s her! It’s her who has kept us stuck in these cycles. If we kill her, we’ll all be free!" A middle-aged man’s enraged voice echoed from the dining hall.
Subsequently, a relentless stream of roaring natives burst forth from within. Even Alexander hadn’t expected that setting up for a banquet in the early morning would attract so many gang members to the restaurant.
"Dominic!"
Hearing this voice, Zoe became frenzied and charged into the surging crowd.
With a mere flick of her slender hand, a head exploded instantaneously. Then, with a sweep of her long leg, Zoe’s ethereal form inflicted tangible damage upon Dominic’s minions. A Ghost Imperial-level native was catapulted through the air like a cannonball, crashing into another group of natives and causing them to vomit blood.
Thump, thump, thump!
The increasingly dense sound of footsteps approached from behind, altering Alexander’s expression. These were the other natives from the cycle.
In their exposed state, these people had naturally aligned with Dominic. Unfortunately, Zoe, who seemed to be constantly in the cycle, didn’t understand how to use Ghost Skills or Ghost Energy effectively.
Other than her previous use of sonic waves, she had been overpowering the enemy purely through brute force. Clearly, this wouldn’t be resolved quickly. No wonder she were concerned about enforcers showing up.
After a moment’s hesitation, Alexander lit up a cigar.
He had to do something; he needed to hold back the people coming from behind. Otherwise, the time required to deal with this situation would drastically increase.
The Underworld Sword materialized in his hand, surrounded by a hundred thousand blades at the general level, with bolts of lightning zigzagging between them.
Even more impressively, his armor appeared—so ostentatious it was almost flamboyant.
From the airship, Alexander had procured every sort of item that could augment his abilities and boost his combat prowess.
Ghost Energy Enhancement Scrolls, Frenzy Ghost Fruit, Temporary Ability Boost Cards, Crystal Shields, Water Barrier Screens, Radiant Enhancement Stones—every one of these items, dozens in total, was activated by Alexander in the blink of an eye.
A haze of dust swirled around him, glowing auras enveloped him, and shields protected him. His awe-inspiring aura left the natives charging up from below utterly stunned.
Leading the frontlines was Mons, who had been responsible for hunting prey during the first cycle. Though a mere underling in Dominic’s gang, Mons had now awakened his Ghost Body capabilities and was a bona fide Ghost Imperial level ghost!
Despite harboring boundless hatred for Zoe, the formidable presence exuded by Alexander, combined with the myriad enhancements shrouding him, made Mons involuntarily slow his pace.
"Attack!" With a ferocious cry, Alexander surged forward, brandishing his long sword.
With all his enhancements, his speed was on par with any Ghost King. Mons and the three other Ghost Imperial level natives by his side had solemn expressions, their Ghost Energy surging uncontrollably.
Although they were furious and yearned to cut Zoe, the true instigator, into a thousand pieces—even if it cost them everything—they did not want to prematurely meet their end here. Therefore, despite also charging forward, the four of them slowed down, proceeding with extreme caution.
As Alexander was about to reach them, Mons roared, "Be careful! This guy is probably going all out against us! Don’t let your guard down; give it your all!"
With that roar, Mons and the three other Ghost Imperials, fueled by surging Ghost Energy, hurled themselves at Alexander, prepared for his most devastating attack.
Despite their status as Ghost Imperials, they knew little of any specialized Ghost Skills. Even if they had natural talents, they could only rely on furiously channeling their Ghost Energy for this impending battle with the man adorned with a plethora of special effects.
Finally, the gap closed. Mons and the fastest Ghost Imperial among them both attacked simultaneously, concentrating all their Ghost Energy onto their right fists. Their shadowy ghost fists lunged at Alexander.
However, the anticipated collision did not occur; their punches met only air. The figure of Alexander, cloaked in his myriad of buffs, vanished before the eyes of the four Ghost Imperials.
Immediately after, screams erupted from behind. Among the charging crowd, the receptionist and two gang members were the first to be fatally struck. A gang member at the level of a Ghost King was pierced through the chest by the Underworld Sword.
Then, Alexander charged forward, engaging in a spree of slaughter.
The four Ghost Imperials were flabbergasted!
What happened to the supposed give all struggle? All this grand display for what?
Alexander was no fool; he naturally wouldn’t rush headlong into a suicide mission against four Ghost Imperials. Talent or no talent, skills or no skills, they were still Ghost Imperials!
His primary objective was to prevent these people from detaining Zoe. Zoe’s biggest issue was not her lack of strength but her lack of a large-scale lethal arsenal. As long as he could hold off these individuals before him, they wouldn’t be able to detain Zoe for long.
As he swung his sword, Alexander cast a sidelong glance backward. That glance was all it took!
Zoe’s ethereal form floated up, her long legs clamping around the neck of one Ghost Imperial, her body arching back, and her hands piercing like blades into the chests of Mons and another Ghost Imperial.
Boom!
Two hearts exploded within their chests, necks shattered in an instant, and a decapitated head shot into the sky.
Alexander turned back around, activating the Underworld Sword’s Hell Cutter feature. Like a meat grinder, he held back the majority of the natives. However, that was not sufficient to instantly kill all these Ghost Kings.
Besides, it wasn’t as if these four were the only enemies. One more Ghost Imperial and five or six Ghost Kings charged at Alexander.
Hell Cutter, the fourth feature of the Underworld Sword, was usable only at the Prince level. Although Alexander had been a Ghost Prince for some time since acquiring the Underworld Sword, he had never used this skill.
Now, it was finally its turn to shine!
