As long as you have the courage, fierce ghosts go on maternity leave.

Chapter 306: I have a better solution

Chapter 306: I have a better solution

One is a brilliant young girl, born in an orphanage and freshly enrolled in college, while the other is a mafia godfather. By all accounts, their worlds shouldn’t intersect.

"Actually, that’s not true! I’ve just heard stories about him!"Zoe hastily shook her head and began,

"This Dominic was once a student at our Cangshan University. They say he got into an argument with a professor and shot him in the arm in a fit of rage, leading to his expulsion! His rap sheet is quite extensive..."

Just as Zoe was about to enumerate further, Alexander abruptly interrupted her, his ears perking up to listen closely.

"Mons, how is it going? There better not be any issues with our prey this time. Dominic was far from pleased with what Roach pulled yesterday. You know what happened to that guy!"

Not far from Alexander, a middle-aged man with a tattooed arm spoke up.

Beside him, a young man named Mons, who was holding a drowsy, inebriated woman, grinned reassuringly and said,

"Bro Lei, you know you can trust me. The prey this time is top-notch. I personally watched her drink the spiked wine; there won’t be any problems. I’ve searched her; she doesn’t have any weapons on her. I don’t fancy being fed to Dominic’s Tibetan Mastiffs!"

"Fine, I’ll take her now. Damn it, Dominic almost lost one last time. If there’s another screw-up, it won’t just be you—neither of us will survive!"

With that, Lei reached out to take the woman Mons was holding and headed upstairs.

...

Being a participant in the cycle grants one a unique advantage: even without the use of Ghost Energy, a participant’s five senses far surpass those of an ordinary person. Even amid the ear-splitting heavy metal music, Alexander clearly heard the conversation between the two men.

Alexander murmured, "As I suspected, this has to do with Dominic."

"They dare to do this!" Zoe’s eyes turned a shade of blood-red, her body’s Ghost Energy simmering on the verge of eruption.

"What are you planning to do?" Alexander hurriedly grabbed Zoe and hissed.

"Save her! Are we just going to watch as that woman is taken away?" Zoe’s face was still flushed with anger.

"Didn’t you awaken your memories? This is a cycle, one we’ve been through countless times!" Alexander said, furrowing his brows.

"Ah... Right, I got carried away by righteous indignation," Zoe admitted, sticking her tongue out. Still, her eyes betrayed her lingering rage.

"Even if this is a recurring cycle, we can’t just stand by! It’s obvious Dominic is the root cause of this cycle. Let’s take him out. You can use the method you used to send off duplicates before, and it’ll be over. As long as we’re fast, we can beat both the hell warriors and the police."

Alexander shook his head. "You might not draw attention from the natives, but me trailing behind you, as a participant, might not go unnoticed."

"In that case, I’ll go up myself and bring the body down to you!" Zoe proposed without hesitation.

"You don’t seem like the courageous type," Alexander eyed Zoe skeptically.

"I... I can’t stand seeing women being mistreated!" Zoe proclaimed.

"Really? Your duplicates didn’t seem to feel that way," Alexander countered, making Zoe instantly flush with shame.

"Fine," Alexander conceded, "I have a better solution."

"What is it?" Zoe asked, intrigued.

"Dominic is looking for ’prey,’ right?" Alexander looked Zoe up and down. "Such a perfect prey, he wouldn’t refuse, would he?"

"You... you’re a pervert!" Zoe’s face paled, and she was about to flee.

"Relax! I’m just bringing you up there! The moment you see Dominic, take him out," Alexander said, draping an arm around Zoe’s shoulder.

"No way! Absolutely not, I’d rather die!" Zoe vehemently shook her head.

"Weren’t you all righteous indignation a moment ago? Why the sudden change of heart? You’re not actually going to be the prey; you’re not a participant, so what’s there to fear?" Alexander frowned once more.

This Zoe was indeed peculiar. If she wasn’t also caught in the cycle, Alexander would’ve suspected she was a participant in disguise. Zoe’s Rampage State wasn’t fake; she genuinely possessed forbidden power.

If Alexander was also a participant, there would have been no drug reaction when the new cycle began. After all, Zoe wasn’t the only one who might have used the love potion; the real Thaddeus could have ingested it as well.

Yet, Alexander is a participant, not the real Thaddeus. So, when the new cycle started, Alexander didn’t exhibit any drug reactions.

"I’m not scared! I’m just disgusted by the thought, that’s all!" Zoe retorted, straightening her neck in a fearless manner. "Fine, let’s go. Whoever backs out is a coward!"

"Then humor me for a moment and act like that woman we just saw," Alexander said, a wicked grin spreading across his face. "Don’t tell me you can’t act; what woman can’t? And you know what happens if you don’t obey," he added, flashing a meaningful smile.

"I’ll act, okay?" Zoe rolled her eyes, leaned into Alexander, and put on a dazed and confused façade. She knew full well what Alexander meant by ’obey.’ If she didn’t comply, he wouldn’t be as gentle when the next cycle began.

Supporting Zoe, Alexander headed for the fifth floor of the nightclub. By the time they reached the fourth floor, the crowd had thinned considerably.

At the entrance to the fifth floor, only two disheveled young gang members stood guard, each with a handgun strapped to his waist.

"What’re you doing here?" One of the gang members stepped forward, his expression darkening upon seeing Alexander.

"I’m delivering prey, you blind? Can’t you see for yourself?" Alexander shot back, his eyes flashing angrily.

"Prey?" The young gang member looked puzzled for a moment, then his gaze shifted to Zoe in Alexander’s arms.

A flash of awe crossed his eyes before he coldly said, "Lei just sent one up, why would we need another ’prey’? Who exactly are you? I’ve never seen you before. You’re not from the Black Dragon gang, are you? Dominic just narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by a woman!"

Having said that, the gang member subconsciously reached for his handgun.

But Alexander, with his short fuse, wasn’t in the mood to indulge him. Without a word, he slapped the young gang member across the face.
