Chapter 159 117: The Gap Between Reality and Expectations
Chapter 159 117: The Gap Between Reality and Expectations
"Oh my goodness..."
Zhao Dezhu, following closely behind Zhang Su, had eyes wide open. His usual loser mentality kicked in, making him too afraid to touch the maple wood furniture, fearing he'd damage it and would have to pay for it.
"TV, fridge, I'm gonna cry, Brother Su, this is real living!"
Lu Yubo walked up to the fridge, trembling as he opened the door. Inside were neatly arranged dozens of bottles of imported beer. He couldn't understand the words on them, but the exquisite bottles suggested they weren't cheap. On either side sat some cans of Coke!
It seemed this vehicle wasn't just for show; maybe the previous owner used it.
"Wow, Xiaoshan, there's a restroom and even a shower... A shower head!"
The two women acted as if they'd discovered a treasure, hugging each other while laughing and jumping.
"Cough! You guys should know what we need to find now, right?"
Zhang Su wasn't indulging in the luxury decor and various facilities. He was feeling around, searching for the so-called gun arsenal.
With Zhang Su's reminder, the others snapped back to reality and quickly started searching earnestly.
The little Corgi somehow also jumped onto the vehicle, watched Zhang Su rummage around, tilted its head pondering for a bit, and then joined in the search.
"Brother Su, there doesn't seem to be anything here..."
Zhao Dezhu went to the rear of the vehicle to find a bedroom with a standard double bed inside, sheets clean as new. He lifted the mattress, but there was nothing underneath.
"The internal space doesn't seem right, Brother Su!"
The group moved to the bedroom, and Zheng Xinyu tilted her head, glanced at the driver's seat, and said, "This vehicle looks really long from the outside. The inside space... there should be more to the back!"
She pointed to the wall behind the head of the bed in the bedroom.
"Xinyu is right, I feel it's shorter inside too!" Zhao Dezhu nodded in agreement.
A twelve-meter-long vehicle, over a meter longer than two Mercedes S-Class back-to-back, couldn't just be described as spacious. In terms of car interior space, it was grand.
Zhang Su also noticed the issue Zheng Xinyu mentioned, but without a manual or a car model to guide him, he had to explore bit by bit.
"Look for buttons anywhere. Try pressing them. You won't break anything, so try them all!"
While talking, Zhang Su went to the driver's seat and started the vehicle. He glanced at the fuel gauge and saw it was four-fifths full, with a range of up to seven hundred kilometers, which was impressive!
The group got busy, randomly pressing buttons, and did discover unusual features. Many of the visible furniture pieces could actually be stored under the vehicle, and even the large double bed could sink underneath.
Not only could the furniture be stored below, but there was also a section about three or four meters long in the vehicle that could extend outward, further expanding the interior space. The label beside the button indicated that the extension space could only be used when the vehicle was stationary.
With a bit of fiddling, a sunshade canopy extended from the roof, creating a simple camping space outside, leaving the group amazed.
Yet, despite all these discoveries, they still hadn't figured out how to access the mysterious area behind the bedroom...
"Damn, this is so dumb!"
Zhang Su scratched his head, walked to the driver's seat, and found a button to open the trunk. A sudden realization hit him; he had forgotten such a straightforward mechanism.
"Found it!"
As he spoke, he pressed the trunk button without hesitation, hearing a faint sound of an electric motor from behind.
When everyone rushed out to the back of the RV and looked inside, they were astounded; a Porsche sports car was parked steadily inside the RV's rear compartment!
"A car that blows my mind ten times over!"
Lu Yubo was dumbfounded.
Zheng Xinyu touched the back wing panel of the sports car and said, "The RV holds a sports car, whoa, a cross-species romance!"
Zhang Su was pondering the vibrant lives of the wealthy, but Zheng Xinyu's whimsical comment caught him off guard.
Giving Zheng Xinyu a curious look, Zhang Su stepped onto the garage and looked around. He searched without finding guns, but then his eyes lit up when he looked down!
"There's something fishy down here!"
Zhang Su stomped his foot.
Judging by the garage height, it was nearly a meter off the ground, making the space of several dozen centimeters below quite suspicious.
"Wooof!"
As everyone continued searching, the Corgi began gently scratching the carpet at a spot, barking at Zhang Su.
When the group lifted the carpet, they found a hidden button underneath.
"Damn, Brother Su, this dog is amazing, how does it know everything?"
Lu Yubo and a few others looked in disbelief at the Corgi lying nearby.
"It's made quite a few contributions today, so don't bully it. Remember to share some goodies!"
As he spoke, Zhang Su lifted the cover and pressed the button. The sports car visibly shook, and the entire floor began to rise steadily!
Quickly, the floor reached the top, about fifty centimeters high, revealing a double-sided shelf with many hooks for firearms.
"This..."
The much-anticipated gun arsenal was right there, but most hooks were empty, with only three pistols hanging lonely in a corner, like abandoned orphans.
"Oh wow!"
Zhang Su made a helpless handspread gesture, reluctantly taking down the three handguns, carefully examining them, and said, "Heckler & Koch's USP, you know the USP from Counter-Strike, this is it!"
"Holy crap, that's badass, dude!"
Zhao Dezhu was the only one who reacted since the others had never played Counter-Strike.
"Badass my ass, the effective shooting range is only seventy to eighty meters, not even as good as my crossbow..."
Zhang Su patted the crossbow slung over his shoulder and gestured to the side, saying, "Looking at this rack structure, there must have been automatic rifles and submachine guns before, such a pity."
"Be content, dude, these are handguns. Let me tell you, for someone like me who doesn't understand, the fear of seeing a handgun is definitely greater than a crossbow. The crossbow's just a toy to me, heh, let me touch it."
Zhao Dezhu happily gazed at the handgun in Zhang Su's hand.
Zhang Su pondered for a second. The main reason three handguns felt insufficient was because of the team's size. If it were just Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan with him, each would have one, which would be awesome.
"These guns are very well-maintained."
Zhang Su clumsily removed the magazine, found it empty, and handed the gun to Zhao Dezhu.
"Brother Su, how do we allocate these guns?" Lu Yubo asked the critical question.
"Let's first see how many bullets are left. We can make crossbow arrows, but damn, we can't make bullets!"
With that, Zhang Su squatted and opened a box at the bottom. Inside were neatly stacked boxes of .40 Smith & Wesson rounds; roughly counting, there were at least five hundred rounds.
"Not bad for ammunition, it's the type with the least recoil for USP bullets, and its power is good too. Huh? There's also some 5.56x45mm ammo left, there must have been full-auto rifles!"
Zhang Su stood up, slightly frustrated, and said, "Originally, I thought of distributing according to headcount if we had plenty. But with only three handguns, we have to allocate based on need. For now, the only thing clear is that sentries must take turns carrying guns. The rest we'll figure out!"
Everyone agreed to this arrangement.
"Three guns, two crossbows, big guy, I bet there aren't many survivor teams tougher than us!"
Reluctantly, Zhao Dezhu returned the handgun to Zhang Su, his face beaming with pride.
Handguns couldn't compare with submachine guns or automatic rifles. They weren't very effective against zombies, but in a country with extremely strict gun control, they were already very intimidating.
Most survivors couldn't even produce a decent weapon, and facing someone armed with a handgun or crossbow meant almost certain defeat!
"Even with guns, we can't be complacent. The lion fights the rabbit with full force; don't forget your identity just because you have a gun. There are plenty of cases of getting caught off guard!"
Zhang Su wasn't overly excited because reality differed from expectations.
