Chapter 171 : Calling for Backup

Chapter 171 : Calling for Backup

Volume 4: High School Arc - “I” Come to Find You~

But now wasn’t the time to think about that, so I lifted my head and smiled, pretending nothing had happened.

"Nothing much, just one of those spot-the-difference games. Have you ever played, Reina?"

As I spoke, I made a move to close the laptop, and in that very instant, I also guessed what was about to happen next.

"Ojou-sama plays spot-the-difference? Can I take a look at the image?"

Shao He, who was driving, slowed the car down while glancing at my face through the rearview mirror.

Her reaction was exactly what I had expected, and in response, I just smiled and turned the laptop toward her.

I pointed at the picture I had already prepared on the screen.

"This one right here. See how well-hidden the differences are?"

While speaking, I pointed at a tiny, nearly imperceptible spot on the two images where the difference was extremely hard to notice, showing it to both Shao He and Reina.

A flash of ease and suspicion passed through Shao He’s eyes, but she didn’t question it deeply.

She simply looked carefully at the image, then nodded.

"It really is hard to spot."

"Eh? Ojou-sama, can I see too?"

Seeing Reina's curiosity, I didn’t say much and casually handed her the laptop.

I had already closed the email—unless Reina deliberately went digging, she wouldn’t find it.

Noticing how I handed over the laptop to Reina without any hesitation, Shao He’s expression relaxed a little.

Looks like… I passed the test.

"Wow~ Ojou-sama, how many differences did you find?"

Reina took the laptop and, upon seeing the complex picture, her face was instantly filled with surprise.

She furrowed her brows and swiped her finger across the screen, comparing the two images.

"Eleven spots. How many can you find, Reina?"

Seeing that Shao He had fully relaxed, I also felt a bit relieved.

It seemed I had managed to deceive her.

This woman was sharp when it came to details, so even if I felt relieved, I couldn’t afford to show the slightest sign of being off.

"Ojou-sama, that’s just bullying! How could I possibly find that many?"

Although she complained, Reina still began searching the picture for the differences.

After glancing at the laptop again, Shao He finally turned her attention back to the road.

Seeing this, I was a hundred percent certain that, at least for now, I hadn’t drawn her suspicion.

I let out a breath and rubbed my forehead.

The migraine was still there, though lighter than it had been at noon.

But I would definitely have to take some medicine tonight, or else the pain might last into tomorrow, or even a week.

"Ojou-sama still feeling unwell? Should we go to the hospital?"

Shao He glanced at me through the rearview mirror and spoke lightly.

"No need, let’s go home. A good night’s sleep should help a lot."

I groaned and laid back on the rear seat.

My body sank deeply into the couch-like seat, finally relaxing completely.

Just like that, I rested in the backseat while Shao He drove and Reina played the spot-the-difference game.

We made our way back to the villa.

After retrieving the laptop from Reina, I got out of the car and went straight back to my room.

The two of them went off to do their own things.

"Phew!"

I leaned back, spreading out my limbs, letting my body feel the brief sensation of free fall as I flopped hard onto the bed and bounced twice.

Feeling my body sink deep into the soft mattress, I couldn’t help but sigh.

"Ahh… this snake waist is seriously killing me."

I didn’t know where this so-called snake waist came from.

Even when I was Zhang Yiwei, I felt like I had one.

Now as Liu Yunyan, I still had it.

Actually, a snake waist just meant your spine had a more pronounced S-curve than average.

To be honest, while such a figure looked beautiful, it was quite exhausting in practice.

When lying flat at night, if the mattress wasn’t soft enough, my lower back wouldn’t even touch the bed.

Normal people could just bend their knees slightly, but I had to fully tuck mine up to get my waist to touch the mattress.

So, my bed had a spring mattress on top.

Only then could my waist make contact with something solid.

"Tonight, it’s time to find that Wang Ding."

I picked up my phone and stared at the photo on the resume displayed on the screen, a heaviness settling in my heart.

"Tonight’s a bit dangerous. Should I call Lu Haochen?"

Frowning, I scrolled through my contacts several times, hesitating over whether to call Lu Haochen.

But in the end, I didn’t call him.

Instead, I called someone else.

I held the phone to my ear.

After a few rings, the call was picked up.

"Brother Jiang, are you free tonight?"

"Liu girl? Why are you calling me? Let me warn you, I’m devoted to your Sister Xu Han, so don’t try to flirt with me!"

"Ah, tui! Who’d want your puny scraps of meat?"

Hearing Jiang Yulong’s smug voice over the phone, I immediately sat up and spat, then heard his voice continue from the other end.

"Then why are you calling me? Why not call Xu Han? She looked kinda busy this afternoon. You probably tried calling her, right? What’s up?"

"I’ll tell you about Sister Xu Han later. Tonight, I need to ask you for something. Don’t know if Brother Jiang is willing to do me a favor?"

There was a noticeable pause on the other end of the line, then Jiang Yulong’s voice turned serious.

"It’s about that side of things?"

"Yeah."

Hearing the seriousness in his voice, I answered without hesitation.

"Dangerous?"

"Yes."

There was another brief silence, then Jiang Yulong’s voice suddenly lightened a bit.

"Then I guess you owe me a favor now, right?"

"Of course."

I answered cleanly and decisively.

I understood how favors worked—if I was asking someone to risk their life with me, I had to remember that debt.

"Alright. What time? Where? What’s the situation?"

A string of questions, all hitting the key points.

"10:30. BBQ restaurant. Drive over. I’ll explain the details when you get there."

I told Jiang Yulong the route I had already planned out.

He gave a short “mm” and then paused.

"Okay."

"That’s it then. Bye."

"Bye."

I hung up and tossed the phone onto the bed.

Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath.

I felt… a bit more relaxed.

Then I opened my eyes and picked up the intercom.

"Reina, I’m going to sleep. Don’t bring me dinner tonight."

"Eh? Ojou-sama’s not eating tonight? Is it because you’re not feeling well?"

Reina’s voice came from the other end of the intercom, but I didn’t reply much.

I just gave a soft “mm,” and after a pause, Reina answered.

"Got it. I’ll let Sister Shao He know. Please rest well."

"Mm."

After giving the order not to be disturbed, I quickly tidied up and checked the time.

There was still time.

It was just after 4 p.m., so I might as well get some sleep while I could.

I set the alarm for ten, took off my clothes, showered, and went to bed.
