Tang Fei listened and sneered, thinking that if people in the Eastern National Government had this awareness, it would be much better.
But in reality, from top to bottom, everyone is just focused on the money in their pockets.
They buy fighter planes under the guise of launching domestic fundraising campaigns, aiming to pocket these funds.
Even when they buy planes, they’re actually purchasing surplus aircraft from the First World War.
The ones most harmed in this entire affair are the donors and the fighter pilots, while these individuals are making a fortune!
“Will you attend the White House dinner this time?”
Mackenzie Pope inquired.
Franklin Roosevelt still places great importance on the visitors from the East, and he values the strategic position of the East highly.
He also leans towards supporting the principal from the East.
Donnie pondered briefly and decided to attend, as he wanted to see the East from that era firsthand.
“I think I’d better go!”
Mackenzie Pope nodded and said, “I’ll inform the White House immediately!”
Days later, Donnie arrived in Washington.
On this day, the White House was brilliantly illuminated, with a host of U.S. officials in formal attire attending the ball, simultaneously featuring several faces from the East.
In fact, this ball was hosted for them.
At the ball, the officials from the Eastern National Government mingled gracefully with various White House officials.
However, their eyes were mostly fixed on the staircase.
Up until now, Franklin Roosevelt hadn’t appeared, and they were all waiting for this U.S. President.
After all, apart from wanting to purchase planes, they also hoped to secure financial support from the U.S. Government.
This requires Franklin Roosevelt’s approval!
The ball had been underway for over ten minutes before these Eastern National Government officials saw Franklin Roosevelt appear.
They also noticed Donnie appearing alongside Franklin Roosevelt.
Yet, they did not recognize Donnie.
Donnie had become increasingly low-profile over the years, making it hard to find photos of him externally.
The representatives from the Eastern National Government quickly searched their memories, trying to identify this man who was conversing and laughing with Franklin Roosevelt, and eliciting respectful glances from others at the ball.
After all, the attitudes of everyone indicated something: this man’s identity was not simple.
In such circumstances, they suddenly thought of Hong Xianyi, who had accompanied them here!
Franklin Roosevelt had served as Hong Xianyi’s legal advisor.
After major changes occurred in the East, Hong Xianyi returned multiple times to the East to initiate fundraising campaigns for resistance efforts.
This time, the Eastern National Government officials had sought Hong Xianyi’s help as their spokesperson in America!
Soon, they learned about Donnie from Hong Xianyi’s mouth.
This news left the Eastern National Government officials in awe.
During this period in the East, there were quite a few business magnates, but in reality, these magnates were merely the government’s pawns, cut down whenever convenient.
They held no genuine authority.
In the East, only those with guns held true power.
But now Hong Xianyi was telling them that the middle-aged man descending the staircase with Franklin Roosevelt was, as a businessman, one of the most powerful figures in America.
Even Franklin Roosevelt consulted with him before making any decisions.
How could they not feel shocked!
“Mr. Block has a fondness for the East. Chinese people in Atlantic City enjoy the best treatment in the United States, facing no discrimination there.
So if you want to secure assistance from the United States, convincing Mr. Block would mean success is within reach.
Additionally, Ares Military Industry under Venus Bank has replaced DuPont, becoming the largest collaborator with the U.S. military. Mr. Block holds a pivotal position in the U.S. military!”
Hong Xianyi’s supplementary introduction about Donnie further astonished them.
Thus, when Franklin Roosevelt and Donnie arrived at the center of the ball, the Eastern National Government officials immediately approached, first exchanging greetings with Franklin Roosevelt, and then proactively conversing with Donnie!
Donnie did not act aloof; he smiled and chatted politely with them, yet his smile was far more genuine when talking to Hong Xianyi.
The Donnie of the previous world wasn’t purely kind, but that didn’t hinder his respect for those who truly resisted during this period.
Without them, his brief opulent life in the previous world wouldn’t have been possible.
This was one of Donnie’s few principles.
“Mr. Hong, it’s been years since we last met, hasn’t it?”
Donnie began exchanging pleasantries with Hong Xianyi.
Hong Xianyi was already 68 years old this year, but he was still vigorous.
“Indeed, I recall last meeting in Washington. I had planned to have a small gathering with you in Atlantic City, Mr. Block, but domestic affairs kept me very busy, leaving no time!”
Donnie nodded and said, “I’ve heard about the Eastern situation; it is indeed a tumultuous time, but the East has a strong foundation. I believe sooner or later, the East will overcome its current difficulties and return to the ranks of world powers!”
Hong Xianyi sighed, “That would be wonderful if true!”
The officials from the Eastern National Government at this time split into two groups: one surrounded Franklin Roosevelt discussing aid matters.
The other group stayed near Hong Xianyi, hoping to converse with Donnie later.
However, only at this moment did they truly realize Donnie’s influence.
While Donnie was conversing with Hong Xianyi, many U.S. White House officials at the ball proactively approached to chat with Donnie, including ministers from various departments.
Hong Xianyi understood their intentions, so after Donnie finished chatting with Harry Woodlin, who had recently succeeded George Dean as Minister of War, he introduced these Eastern National Government officials to Donnie.
Donnie greeted them with a smile again.
“Mr. Block achieved such accomplishments at the age of 40; looking at international history, such individuals are rare!”
Donnie laughed and replied, “I heard that the Tang Dynasty emperor Li Shimin became Emperor at 37, and the Ming Dynasty founding emperor Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty at the age of 40!”
His counterpart was not upset by Donnie’s rebuttal but surprised and responded.
“I didn’t expect Mr. Block to be so knowledgeable about our Eastern history!”
Donnie smiled and said, “It’s merely some research, not true understanding!”
“Mr. Hong tells us that Mr. Block is extremely considerate of our Eastern people in America. I want to express gratitude on behalf of these individuals to Mr. Block!”
One of the Eastern National Government officials said again.
Donnie waved and replied, “They are capable individuals, and I’ve spoken with them. They didn’t grasp some matters and asked me a question, but since I couldn’t comprehend it either, I couldn’t provide them an answer.
Since you are here, I can pose this question to you.”
“Mr. Block, please speak; I will answer unreservedly!”
“The Chinese people in Atlantic City asked me, ‘Now that the East has become like this, why isn’t your government uniting all possible forces to collectively resist external invaders, but instead engaging in internal wars?'”
This question from Donnie left the Eastern National Government officials momentarily speechless.
Hong Xianyi, however, brightened upon hearing this; he also held this mindset.
Given the circumstances, driving out external forces should be the primary focus!
