Chapter 42
Chapter 42
~Kezziah
Alden and I stumbled to bed around midnight.
Giddy and glowing, I fall into the sheets alongside my mate, still warm inside from talking to him all night. We spoke about a million things from Pack politics to our own personal philosophies. Whatever magical force deemed us worthy to be together did a good job, considering how well we seem to get along.
If only we could continue this cycle forever, not having to worry about all the drama with Time and with Alden’s sickness. Any moment it could trigger and I could lose my mate. It takes all of my willpower to shove that thought down and not consider it.
At this point, spending time with him in bed is my favourite past time. Being wrapped in his arms, feeling him against me is a feeling like no other.
I love it.
“I never thought I would ever find someone. Not with work and my sickness. But with you everything makes sense,” he murmurs in my ear, brushing my hair back. Tingles spread down my neck and back. It feels good to be special to someone. Especially someone like Alden, who I didn’t think was capable of many feelings. At least in the beginning.
I roll over, lying on him partially. It’s nice looking into his eyes, seeing that pool of pure navy blue, a key trait that all Alpha’s of the Wisdom Pack seem to have. It makes me wonder if it will pass down the bloodline with me involved.
“If I’m honest, when I first met you, I was intimidated. You were so cold and stern. I’m happy fate allowed me to get to know you,” I tell him honestly, resting my palms against his chest.
Alden looks solemn. “I didn’t have much to be happy about.”
Hearing that made my heart sink into my stomach. It almost seems to hurt me physically that that he had been so happy. I don’t blame him, however, the last thing I want is for him to be unhappy. I just want everything with Time to end. For my sake, and for his as well, as I can tell it’s bothering him.
I reach up to kiss him. It's becoming an act I’m struggling to keep myself from doing at almost all times. Sure, it might be due to the fact that our bond is just beginning, but I don’t want to be away from him.
There is something about the way he kisses me back. It’s warm and searching, always making me crave more. And I can tell he feel that way too.
This is how I know it’s right.
For some reason, this kiss seemed to be different. His hands lingered at my shirt line in an almost teasing way. The feeling of his fingertips against my skin makes me quiver to the point I can’t take it anymore. I lift myself up slightly and help him pull my shirt off, tossing it to the other end of the room.
Alden’s hands immediately begin exploring, leaving traces of sparks in their wake. I tug at his shirt, desperate to feel his bare skin against mine. Once he does so, I can finally feel him against me, bare breasts pressed against his chest.
It seems like a flame has been lit between us.
The pressure of his hot kisses, his hands moving up and down my waist, along my back and shoulders was enough to have me shaking, unsure of how much longer I could last having him only touch my upper half.
All shyness has vanished, as if we are surrounded by a bubble that no one can penetrate. It was me more confident than I have felt in awhile.
It didn’t take long our pants to vanish. It seemed like one moment they were there, and the next they weren’t, too caught up in the heat of the moment to realise anything was missing until I felt Alden’s fingers against me. His lips move from my mouth, kissing with varying levels of pressure down my neck.
I would be lying if it wasn’t driving me crazy with the euphoria.
Suddenly, I found myself on top of him, palms pressed against his chest. I watch his eyes trace lines down my body and he drinks in the sight of me. It makes me flush, but I’m not ashamed. Seeing him enjoying it only adds to the feeling growing within me. I’m excited.
There was no way I could contain myself much longer. I’m not even sure if Alden expected it as I slipped him inside me, not bothered by the slight amount of burning pain that lasted a few moments. I didn’t know I wanted to feel him so badly, but once I did, I felt my entire body release, as if I was finally answering what the bond between us wanted.
For a flicker of a moment I think of Time. Does he know the bond he created between him and I is being disrupted by the raw and true emotion between myself and Alden?
Either way, I don’t care. All I can think about it is the feeling of my mate.
Moving my hips against him, I relish of the feeling of him. From the feeling of his hair that runs through my fingers, to the softness of hips lips against mine and the taste of his tongue. Even the way he runs his fingers down my back, as I move.
“I love you,” I murmur, a feeling building up within me I can’t escape, but I want more of. I move faster against him, until he flips me over, pinning against the bed.
Suddenly, he’s the one in control, moving his hips in a way that has me moaning his name aloud. It takes only a few moments longer of his rapid movements before something within me seemed to explode, my toes curling, my back arching.
When he pulled away, lying next to me, I let my breath return to me, resting against Alden’s chest, hearing how quickly his heart is beating.
“I love you too,” he finally breathes, kissing the top of my head.
I’ve never felt so loved and warm in my life. Right now, nothing else matters at all.

Alden and I spent the next few days enjoying each others company. For once, I didn’t worry about Time, and Alden didn’t worry about work. Although I did make sure those in the lab would call him if they found out any more about the cure for Alden. It lingers on my mind often, but I try not to concentrate on it.
I was in a good mood, too, which didn’t seem to cease for the entire week. That was, until I was outside one morning, sipping on tea under the sun. My perfect peace was suddenly disrupted by the sound of a male shout coming from down the driveway.
The sound was unfamiliar. Checking for Alden inside, I call him to follow me to inspect the sound.
Anything could be a sign of Time.
“You don’t need to worry,” Alden murmurs softly, squeezing my hand as if to reassure me. If I weren’t so worried that we hadn’t heard from Time, and so skeptical about the ring actually working, I wouldn’t be so worried.
I continue to drag him down the driveway to where the barrier of magic is, gravel crunching underneath our feet.
“You don’t know that,” I mutter.
I’m not mad at him, only stressed. He doesn’t seem offended, though. “He won’t find you here, I promise. You’re safe. And even if it is him, I doubt he would get in here. You know I would protect you, regardless.”
I don’t have the heart to tell him that he may be strong, but no mortal stands a chance against an immortal. Me saying that wouldn’t help anyway.
However, when we make it to the barrier, it isn’t Time I see.
It’s Cain.
He stands there, hands shoved in his trouser pockets, smirking. My heart falls the moment I see him, those golden strands in his hair glowing underneath the sunlight. It seems strange to see him outside in the sun. He seems like a dark dwelling demon. A demon that has saved my life before.
Alden looks confused, unsure of who the strange man is standing outside the barrier. “Can we help you.”
Cian glances at me and winks. Something Alden notices immediately. I don’t look at my mate though, wanting to see why Cian is here first.
“Oh Alden, don’t act like you don’t know an Immortal when you see one. You’re a smart guy,” Cian tells Alden, motioning down to the barrier that is keeping him outside the property. It’s a relief.
“I know you’re an immortal. I would like to know why you’re here,” Alden says firmly.
It’s clear Alden knows which Immortal he is, however, he won’t give Cian the satisfaction. It’s the perfect way to get into Greed’s head. All that I know is Cian is here for me, not Alden. It’s just a matter of what he wants.
“I’m here for my darling friend,” Cian says slowly, looking straight at me. Of course. “Aren’t I Kezziah?”
