Chapter 396 - 246 Yi Er, Don’t You Want to Take Elder Su as Your Master?_3

He stepped forward. In Die Yi’s slightly defiant gaze, he pried open her delicate, fair hand, placed the North Sea Coral Ginseng in her palm, enclosed her small hand with his larger one, and closed her fingers, whispering softly, "Su Mou’s health has almost fully recovered now, and I have no use for it. Since you are intent on becoming my disciple someday, and I have nothing else to offer you, you might as well accept this North Sea Coral Ginseng. Consider it a gift for your future apprenticeship under me."

Under the moonlight, looking at her once more, he was no longer in the mood for teasing and playing with her as before.

Did that hint of speculation in his heart find confirmation in reality once more? Why did every red-destined woman he encountered, regardless of her experiences, end up becoming his disciple? Was this fated, or had it been orchestrated from the start? And what about Li Zijun? He thought of that gentle woman whom he had seldom met but who had left strong marks in his heart. He was to visit South Wind Ancient Country soon; surely he would meet her there?

Die Yi’s lips parted slightly, her expression suddenly bewildered, as if she wanted to say something.

But she was interrupted by Su Bei’s finger making a shushing motion. "Don’t say more, it’s yours now..."

"Su..."

"Take it."

"I..."

"Obey me and take it!"

"Oh..."

Eventually, after much persuasion from Su Bei, Die Yi accepted the North Sea Coral Ginseng. She turned and hurriedly left.

Seeing this, Key Smoke nodded, walked up to Su Bei, and sighed with emotion, "One must admire Elder Su for certain qualities... Indeed, you are very generous."

More than once, he had rejected the opportunities that were rightfully his. She had seen it all.

Su Bei laughed heartily, hands clasped behind his back. As he watched Die Yi quickly running towards the gate, he murmured, "It’s just a ginseng... Worldly matters, Su Mou has long seen through. The myriad states of mortal existence are but a confusing distraction to the eyes..."

Key Smoke nodded in agreement. "Yes, although the North Sea Coral Ginseng is known as the ’Emperor of Ginsengs,’ it is ultimately just a mundane object worth five million spirit stones. Just a ginseng..."

Su Bei was dumbfounded.

Turning around, Key Smoke then saw Su Bei running toward the gate. With hasty steps and an air of urgent anxiety, he dashed and shouted as he went, "Die Yi! That, um, you must only consume the North Sea Coral Ginseng after you’ve taken me as your master! You mustn’t eat it now! Did you hear me? Eating it now will be of no use!!"

"Hey!"

It was still that same courtyard, the same bamboo pavilion, and those same two people.

Su Bei looked at Key Smoke and noticed her dress. He hesitated, his lips parted as if wanting to say something, yet he said nothing.

Key Smoke turned around, her black hair gently fluttering in the wind, mingling with Su Bei’s.

The moonlight finally shone down, a static flow of silver light. Through the gaps in the bamboo pavilion, specks of light sprinkled down, casting upon her cheeks, the hollow of her shoulder, and her bosom.

"What would Elder Su like to say? You may speak freely," she said.

Su Bei looked at her face; the moon cast shadows upon her eyelashes. She stood in the bamboo pavilion, tilting her head to gaze at the bright moon. Her dancing garments and long hair seemed ready to be whisked away by the night breeze at any moment. Her stunning yet poignant silhouette seemed to carry a wistful loneliness.

In these thousand years, she must have watched the moon just like this. But back then, was he the same? He, too, wanted to join her in moon gazing.

Then, Su Bei mustered his courage and whispered a few words into her ear, "That... Saintess. Your dress seems to be wet..."

BANG!

THUD!

CLANG!

Su Bei’s entire body shot out, legs straight like a meteor, soaring before landing seated outside the courtyard gate. This was followed immediately by the sound of a firmly slammed door.

Su Bei got up, rubbed his behind, and muttered, "Wasn’t it you who said ’speak freely’?"

Then, taking a deep breath, he yelled towards the inside of the courtyard, "Saintess, my clothes are still in there!"

WHOOSH!

His clothes were thrown over to him. Su Bei carefully caught them, warily looking at the tightly shut door.

He then tentatively asked, "So... Saintess, shall I continue with the foot massage tomorrow? If not tomorrow, how about the day after? I also offer a full body spa treatment, massage..."

There was no response for a long time.

Su Bei sighed. It seemed that tonight he was destined not to share the moonlight with her.

Looking at the carefree moon, he turned and quietly walked away.

「Inside the courtyard.」

Key Smoke leaned against the door, her back to it, listening to his departing footsteps. She gently closed her eyes, murmuring to herself, "The moon. The moonlight, ever the same..."
