"What’s wrong, a headache?"

Noticing her actions, Tang Ming, who was sitting on one side, asked gently.

Tang Ming was about the same age as Leng Zimo, but his temperament was entirely different. Dressed in a pale gray suit, his slightly long tousled hair framed a handsome face, and the thin-framed glasses on his nose only added to his scholarly aura.

"It’s nothing." Xu Pei shook her head, "How come you’re here?"

Tang Ming shrugged his shoulders, smiling warmly, "I just met with a friend and was coming out of the tea bar nearby when I heard someone shouting for help, so I went over to have a look. I didn’t expect it to be you. Why did you drink so much, are you in a bad mood?"

"Never mind me." Xu Pei didn’t want to talk much about herself, "Haven’t you always been in Europe? What made you decide to come back to the country?"

"The company opened an office in Beijing, and I came over to check it out. I’ll be leaving in a few days." Tang Ming’s gaze slowly shifted over her, from head to toe, finally resting on her gaunt face, "You seem to have lost weight."

Xu Pei smiled faintly, "You’ve never seen me before, how would you know if I’ve lost weight?"

A hint of surprise flashed in Tang Ming’s eyes, but his expression did not change much, "Haven’t you sent me photos before? Have you forgotten?"

Xu Pei raised her hand to touch her face, "That seems to have been half a year ago, right? It’s been so long, and yet you remember."

"Your eyes tell me that you haven’t been very happy recently." Tang Ming turned his body to look at Xu Pei with concern, "Is it that you’re not having a good time in the country?"

Xu Pei laughed it off, "Not at all, I’m doing quite well. Didn’t I tell you in my last email? I’m now with Emperor View, working together with Zimo."

Tang Ming was about to say something more when the car stopped outside a five-star hotel. The driver got out and helped open the door for Tang Ming.

Xu Pei reached out to open the door, but Tang Ming had already come to her side and opened it for her, protecting the door with one hand and supporting her arm with the other, "Be careful."

Helping her walk into the hotel lobby, Tang Ming nodded gentlemanly to the doorman and then led Xu Pei into the elevator.

"My room is a suite. Just rest here for the night. Tomorrow I’ll find someone to help you with your lock." Leading her all the way to his own rented room on the ninth floor, Tang Ming directly opened the door to one of the bedrooms, "This is the master bedroom. You can sleep here."

Xu Pei hurried to refuse, "No need, I’ll sleep in..."

"Xiao Pei, why stand on ceremony with me?" Tang Ming cut off her words with a smile, guiding her to lie down on the bed and pulling a thin quilt over her, "Lie down for a bit. I’ll go get some cotton to clean your wound and then get you something to eat."

"It’s nothing, just a scrape. And I don’t need any food, I don’t feel like eating." Xu Pei turned over, her back facing him, "I just want to sleep for a while."

Tang Ming bent down to adjust the quilt for her. "If you need anything, just call me. I’ll be right outside."

"No need. You should sleep too. I just drank a little too much. A good sleep will fix it," Xu Pei said.

"Alright then, good night!"

Tang Ming smiled at her, stood up, walked to the door, turned off the main light, and slowly closed the room door.

In the darkness, Xu Pei held her aching stomach, staring wide-eyed at the unfamiliar hotel ceiling, as tears streamed down from the corners of her eyes.
