Chapter 445 - 448: Proposal [1]
The other party’s tone was not as aggressive as Leng Zimo’s, even quite calm, but the natural authority that flowed through was enough to make Luo Xiaoqian’s back tense up instantly.
That kind of demeanor can’t be feigned; it belongs only to those who have been in high positions for years.
Her tone naturally turned respectful, "May I know who’s calling?"
"Leng Lin, Leng Zimo’s father," the other party replied.
Although she had anticipated somewhat, hearing such a direct introduction, Luo Xiaoqian still swallowed nervously, "Mr. Leng, hello!"
She knew she wasn’t qualified to address him as cordially as Xu Pei did.
"In half an hour at Pin Lin Ji Tea House," he stated succinctly.
After giving the time and address, Leng Lin hung up the phone.
Like father, like son; their way of doing things was nearly identical.
"Was it Uncle Leng?" Xu Pei asked.
Luo Xiaoqian nodded, "He wants to meet me."
"How about I go with you?" There was a cold glint in Xu Pei’s eyes as she steadied her arm, "Uncle Leng is very fond of me. With me there, he won’t lose his temper at you, I..."
"Thank you, Sister Xu Pei, but there’s no need!"
Turning to the side with a smile, Luo Xiaoqian got out of the car.
This was her matter; she ought to face it alone.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, watching her figure cross the street, Xu Pei scoffed, patting the steering wheel before driving into the parking lot.
Pin Lin Ji Tea House was situated not far from Workers’ Stadium, Luo Xiaoqian jogged there and was slightly out of breath as she entered the establishment.
"Miss Luo Xiaoqian, right?"
As soon as she entered, a tall young man approached her.
Knowing this must be the person Leng Lin sent to receive her, Luo Xiaoqian wasn’t surprised as she nodded, "Yes, that’s me!"
The man’s status meant he naturally had his means; they probably had already investigated her somewhat, so she wasn’t too taken aback.
"Please follow me!"
The young man turned and led her upstairs to a room on the third floor, where he knocked softly on the door.
"Come in!"
A simple command came from inside.
The young man opened the door and gestured for Luo Xiaoqian to enter.
"Thank you!" she whispered, pushing the door open gently and entering the private room.
The tea house’s room was decorated in a simple, classical style, and behind the rosewood table, a man was seated.
In his fifties, with graying hair already, but not looking old, his resolute face hinting that he must have been handsome in his youth, still with a compelling charm at his age.
Dressed casually, his posture in the chair maintained an unbending stiffness, holding the purple teapot with a firm, steady hand.
Luo Xiaoqian closed the door softly behind her and walked slowly to the table.
"Hello."
Leng Lin slowly poured tea into the cup as the room filled with the silent flow of tea aroma.
"You seem quite nervous."
"Yes."
"Feeling guilty?"
"Only those with something to hide would feel guilty!" Luo Xiaoqian responded without humility or arrogance.
She had fallen in love with a man, she hadn’t done anything to feel guilty about.
Luo Xiaoqian’s nervousness was simply because he was that man’s father; she didn’t want to cause any additional strain on their father-son relationship because of her.
But it wasn’t guilt she was feeling.
Leng Lin’s gaze shifted towards her for the first time, his expression serious as he looked at Luo Xiaoqian’s face.
