Chapter 374 - 375: Dumplings
Chapter 374 - 375: Dumplings
Luo Xiaoqian followed him into the kitchen, only to see Leng Zimo turning off the gas stove. Water stains were everywhere on the stove and floor, dotted sporadically with a few dumplings.
In the corner of the kitchen cabinet lay a pot lid.
Clearly, the loud noise they just heard was the sound of the pot lid falling to the floor.
"Actually, everyone has these moments, I’m no exception!" Leng Zimo said self-deprecatingly, shrugging his shoulders as he bent over to pick up the pot lid, "Looks like, your late-night snack needs a change of plans."
When she had come in earlier, he was cooking dumplings, but because of her confession, he totally forgot about it, causing the water and dumplings to overflow and knock the pot lid off.
Luo Xiaoqian looked around briefly, her gaze sweeping over the flour scattered atop the kitchen cabinets and the remaining filling on the cutting board, then falling on Leng Zimo.
Though he was wearing an apron, his black shirt and trousers had obvious flour stains, and his palms were covered in flour too.
Making dumplings was an intricate task, after all, it was his first time, and he was handicapped with only one usable hand; just kneading the dough took him over an hour.
"Did you make these dumplings?"
"Making the filling was quite simple, but kneading the dough is truly troublesome."
Leng Zimo grabbed a broom from a corner of the kitchen, preparing to clean up.
"Don’t move!" Luo Xiaoqian cried out hastily, rushing over to the table to pick up an empty bowl and carefully collecting the fallen dumplings one by one into it.
"They’re dirty, don’t eat them."
Leng Zimo reached out to grab the bowl, but Luo Xiaoqian turned and hid the bowl behind her back.
"I want to eat them!"
Leng Zimo shrugged his shoulders, his tone indulgently helpless, "Then at least rinse them with water?"
Standing by the sink, Luo Xiaoqian rinsed the dumplings in the bowl with water, and Leng Zimo handed her a pair of chopsticks.
She picked up one with the chopsticks and bit into it, chewing slowly. The wrapper was a bit thick, but the filling tasted very authentic, even better than what she made.
"Did you mix the filling yourself?" she asked curiously.
Leng Zimo furrowed his brows, "Does it not taste right? I went to Dumpling City in Chinatown specifically to ask the chef, and weighed everything according to the recipe. Did I forget something?"
Luo Xiaoqian’s nose suddenly felt sore.
For the sake of making her a dumpling, had he gone through so much trouble?!
She could hardly imagine how he did it with just one hand.
"Is it that bad?" Leng Zimo, observing her expression, leaned in confusedly, "Let me have a taste."
"Don’t even think about it, these are all mine!" Luo Xiaoqian quickly stuffed another dumpling into her mouth, then reluctantly offered one up to his mouth, "Considering you almost turned yourself into a dumpling, I’ll reward you with one!"
Leng Zimo took the dumpling, chewed it, and commented unabashedly, "The wrapper is too thick, the dough too hard, the filling mediocre, overcooked, definitely a failure!"
Luo Xiaoqian immediately retorted, "Nonsense, these are the tastiest dumplings I’ve ever had."
"That’s your emotional bias," Leng Zimo said.
"No, whether something tastes good or not depends on the mood, if you’re in a good mood, even the worst food is delicious, if you’re upset, even the tastiest food won’t be enjoyable..."
"So you’re saying they indeed taste bad?"
"That’s not what I mean, I’m saying..."
"I’m just teasing you," Leng Zimo laughed heartily, wiping off the flour from her face he had accidentally rubbed onto her, "Go take a bath after you’re full, you’re almost becoming a dumpling yourself!"
