Chapter 344 - 345 Loss of Contact
Back in the office, Leng Zimo immediately sat down in front of his computer and started browsing through web pages.
As expected, most of the online public opinion had shifted to positive comments.
He let out a sigh of relief, leaned back in his chair, and raised his hand to rub his slightly sore neck. Since learning about the incident, he had been arranging countermeasures constantly, and having slept only a few hours in total over the past two days, he was inevitably exhausted.
His cellphone rang, and seeing Leng Zirui’s number on the screen, he reached to answer the call.
"Hello?"
"How did it go?"
"Better than I anticipated!"
"That’s good!" Leng Zirui breathed a sigh of relief on the other end of the line, "With that settled, I can go to Sichuan for the disaster relief without worries."
Sichuan?
Disaster relief!
Leng Zimo bolted upright, "What’s going on?"
Leng Zirui’s tone was unusually serious and solemn, "I just received orders. There has been a mudslide in the southwestern part of Sichuan due to heavy rain. The disaster is significant. My troops happen to be training nearby, so we were temporarily called to assist with the relief efforts. I have to go there to command on site."
"How’s the situation in the Ganzi area?" Leng Zimo urgently asked.
"All I know right now is it’s between the mountainous regions of Aba and Ganzi, the specific area is still unclear. What’s wrong?" Noticing the urgency in his voice, Leng Zirui asked, puzzled.
"That girl is in Ganzi!" Leng Zimo grabbed the coat thrown over the back of his chair, "I’m contacting her right away. Where are you?"
"I’m on my way back to the unit." Leng Zirui’s voice was tinged with unease, "How did you hide her over there?"
With his quick wit, it wasn’t hard to guess that Leng Zimo had deliberately found some excuse to send Luo Xiaoqian to Ganzi to avoid the reporters.
"I didn’t want her to know, so I temporarily transferred her to a public welfare campaign team that the company has over there!" Leng Zimo rushed out of the conference room, "I’m immediately driving over to you. Wait for my call!"
After hanging up, he sprinted to the elevator and quickly dialed Yu Tong’s number.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable!"
Leng Zimo furrowed his brows even more and dialed Zhuo Yannan’s number right away, "Give me Xiao Zhou’s and the Ganzi event leader’s numbers right now, immediately, at once!"
On the other end of the line, Zhuo Yannan was enjoying some downtime, still feeling slightly tipsy. But after hearing that sentence, his buzz faded considerably.
"President Leng, has something happened?"
"There’s been a widespread mudslide disaster in Sichuan. I need to know if they are safe!"
With that, Zhuo Yannan was fully sober.
"Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll contact them right away and then call you back!"
"Okay!"
After hanging up, Leng Zimo reached the parking lot and, clutching his cellphone, started his car.
The black sports car, like a wild horse breaking free, charged out of the parking lot exit and sped onto the highway.
...
...
Sichuan, Ganzi.
Luo Xiaoqian raised her hand to wipe the rainwater off her face and pressed it against the glass to peer outside.
"Yu Tong, did you hear that?"
"Hear what?" Yu Tong, who was holding Xiao Mei, looked up in confusion.
"It sounds like something, like the ocean waves..." Luo Xiaoqian moved her eyes closer to the glass, trying to see through the running rainwater and out of the car window.
Outside the car window, the wind howled and the rain poured fiercely.
On the side of the mountain, rainwater cascaded down like countless streams, pounding noisily against the car wheels as the driver tightly gripped the steering wheel, not daring to relax in the slightest.
In the distance, lightning flashed.
