Chapter 242 - 243: Son and Father [9]
Cemetery.
At a distance, a line of people came to a stop in front of Leng Zimo’s mother’s grave.
Just as Luo Xiaoqian had guessed, the elderly man walking at the front, barely in his fifties with grey hair but a back as straight as a sword, was none other than Leng Zimo’s father, Leng Lin.
Walking by his side, a young man dressed in field combat gear bore some resemblance to Leng Zimo.
His eyebrows, however, weren’t as harshly defined as Zimo’s and appeared somewhat slender; his chin was also sharper than Zimo’s. His temperament was worlds apart from the latter—it was clear he wore the garb of a noble, yet it somehow seemed roguish on him.
He exuded the same demonic charm as Jiao Yang, but within it lay a vast difference. If Jiao Yang’s aura was like that of a fox, then this man was like a leopard—languid in appearance, yet hiding danger and explosive power underneath.
This young man was Leng Lin’s second son, Leng Zimo’s brother, Leng Zirui.
"I knew it, my big brother would definitely come here before us. It’s Mother’s death anniversary, how could he forget?"
Leng Zirui gestured toward the bouquets by the headstone with his chin and quickly scanned the surroundings of the grave, noticing a few strands of green grass scattered around. He turned his head, looking towards the mountain path on the other side.
His eyes found no trace of the familiar figure of his elder brother.
Earlier, in the parking lot, he had seen Leng Zimo’s car. Looking at the flowers and the grass, he knew Zimo must have seen them coming and taken another path to leave.
The guy sure left in a hurry!
"Hmph!"
Leng Lin snorted lightly, taking a prepared bouquet of lilies from his assistant and personally walked up to place it in front of his wife’s grave.
The secretary and the driver were discreet enough to bow to the tombstone and then backed away about twenty steps—not too far to protect Leng Lin if needed, but far enough not to intrude on his conversation with his wife and son.
Crouching by his wife’s grave, Leng Lin reached into his pocket to pull out a handkerchief.
"No need..." Leng Zirui plopped down by the headstone, casually running a finger along it, then held up his palm showing not a speck of dust to him, "Look, since big brother has been here, it’s bound to be spotless!"
Leng Lin glanced at him, seeing his disrespectful sitting posture, and his brow furrowed with displeasure.
"Neither standing nor sitting with any decorum, what is this behavior? Stand up!"
The look, the expression, the tone... It was almost identical to Leng Zimo’s.
"Can’t I have a moment of closeness with Mom?" Leng Zirui hugged the headstone and whined, "Mom, look, the old man of our family is losing his temper at me again. How pitiful am I? Even though I’m the most obedient, I’m scolded every day. Maybe I should go down and keep you company..."
Leng Lin glared at him, but in the end, he didn’t say anything more. Knowing that his eldest son had already cleaned the headstone, he still carefully wiped the entire stone again.
His wife was his weakness, and Zirui’s tactic always worked without fail.
"Mom, you’ve missed me, haven’t you? I didn’t bring you flowers, but look, I’ve brought Daoxiang Village’s pastries that you loved to eat!" Leng Zirui patted his stomach, "It’s all in here. I knew if I brought it to you, you wouldn’t have the heart to eat it, so I ate it on your behalf..."
"Get lost!"
Leng Lin couldn’t contain his irritation and growled lowly.
"Yes, sir!" Leng Zirui immediately stood up, snapped a salute at him, "I’ll complete the mission right away!"
Then, Leng Zirui turned around to make his getaway.
But as soon as he turned, Leng Lin’s voice came from behind him, throwing a few words after him.
"Don’t go, stand there and wait!"
