Chapter 565 - 443 Pulling a Little Cart Downstairs for Takeout
"?" Li Qing was bewildered.
Ning Youguang briefly told him about what happened today at noon, including the encounter with Gu Ying.
"How can it be such a coincidence?" On the other end of the line, Li Qing was stunned, "It was Senior Zhao and his mom."
"Yes." Ning Youguang laughed, "I also thought it was such a coincidence."
"So, Senior Zhao is back?" Li Qing exclaimed with joy.
"Yes."
"When would be convenient for you? I’ll host, and we can all have a meal together. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Senior Zhao. How does he look now?" Li Qing was curious, "He has been in the UK for years, is his hairline still intact?"
Ning Youguang chuckled, "What are you talking about? Senior Zhao doesn’t have any genetic issues."
"Thank goodness." Li Qing pretended to breathe a sigh of relief, "So I can see the handsome Senior Zhao again, our pride of China University of Science and Technology. If he’s not bald, then surely...he’s...not fat either, right?"
"No, he’s pretty much the same as before." Ning Youguang laughed lightly, "Just that he’s a bit more mature in temperament. You’ll know once you meet him."
"As long as Senior Zhao is the same as before, I’m relieved." Li Qing laughed, "Senior Zhao always posts stuff about research and academics, as well as art, on his social networks. Otherwise, when he posts photos, they’re always of scenery, never of himself. So I have no clue what he’s become in the UK."
She rambled on, "You know, I have a high school classmate who went to the UK for graduate studies after college, and in just over a year, he doubled in weight. I’m really worried that Senior Zhao might not eat well over there and get fat, then he wouldn’t be the handsome senior I remember, and I fear the huge psychological gap when we meet might make me unable to maintain my composure, which wouldn’t be good."
"Don’t worry, that won’t happen." Ning Youguang reassured her and asked, "Why thought of inviting me for a picnic? You used to refuse to go hiking, saying you’re afraid of getting sunburnt."
"People change, you know." Li Qing tossed out a reply, "It’s not that I didn’t like going out before, it was that I liked being at home. Now, I don’t like being at home; I like going out to embrace nature."
"Oh~" Ning Youguang was amused, "What caused such a big change in our young lady?"
"Well, lately I’ve been feeling quite stressed, from all directions." Li Qing said, "Then, a few friends who love camping and picnicking told me if I feel stressed, I could go to different campsites, on different grass fields, see different skies and plants, different clouds and winds, which would heal me. At first, I didn’t really believe it, but after going with them a few times, I found that nature really makes me feel comfortable."
"I told you before, but you didn’t believe me." Ning Youguang teased her.
"Uh..." Li Qing was annoyed, "I hadn’t experienced it before, no matter how well you said it, I couldn’t perceive it, so I naturally missed out for a long time."
"It’s great that you’re experiencing it now, congratulations." Ning Youguang laughed, "To feel even better, you could even hug a tree like an old person to feel the breath of flora."
"Sure." Li Qing decided to follow the advice, "I’ll go hug a tree later."
"Your change is quite dramatic." Ning Youguang was in awe at Li Qing’s determination.
"Exactly." Li Qing said proudly yet wistfully, "You have no idea, recently I’ve even progressed to, even when ordering takeout, I take my little cart and picnic mat to eat in the grove and on the grass downstairs, under the sun. After eating, I bring it back. Food is healing too, especially homemade, especially when eaten in nature. These days, every good-weather weekend, I eat outside, trying Korean cold noodles, Sichuan skewers, spicy hotpot, spring rolls, sushi, hot dry noodles, leek boxes, etc. I also had Hunan stir fry, paired with coffee and wine, sometimes sparkling water. All of this makes me feel life is vibrant again, and I no longer care about getting tanned. I care more about whether I’m happy inside."
"This wonderful spring paired with your hard-working lifestyle is truly beautiful." Ning Youguang praised.
"Beautiful, my foot..." Li Qing’s face was smiling happily but her tone had a bit of self-mockery, "I think people in our community have already taken me for a nutcase, hahaha, who cares, I’m happy, I’m joyful! At least it proves I’m living earnestly."
"If anyone thinks you’re a nutcase, then they must be the ones with issues." Ning Youguang chuckled.
"I think so too." Li Qing laughed cheerfully, "They don’t understand, when I sit under the tree downstairs at my place, it’s like owning the whole world, the sense of happiness is overwhelming."
"Once my leg is better, I’ll find a sunny day to experience your lifestyle. It sounds truly enticing." Ning Youguang said enviously.
"Yes, definitely experience it! Let me tell you." Li Qing said word by word, "I finally got it now, why do we often know the principles but can’t master them when encountering situations. It’s because we’re not in the habit of applying them."
"You’re very right." Ning Youguang laughed gently, "Many people always say ’I know so many principles but still can’t live well’ because those principles aren’t ones they realized in their own lives. They aren’t personal, they’re hearsay, of course, they’re not effective for them. To make ’principles’ useful, we must personally experience them, transforming ’principles’ into ’practicality’."
...
"Who were you talking to just now, chatting for so long?" Shi Wangyue came out through the door from inside and saw Ning Youguang closing his phone.
"Li Qing." Ning Youguang smiled.
"What were you talking about?" Shi Wangyue lifted the flower basket full of flowers from beside her and casually asked.
"She wants to invite me for a picnic." Ning Youguang said in a gentle tone, "I feel she might be dealing with some mental block recently, not in a good mood."
"Oh." Shi Wangyue nodded, "Isn’t everyone burdened with troubles?"
"Speak plainly." Ning Youguang cast a sidelong glance at Shi Wangyue, "She’s not a psychology major, her work is stressful, encountering problems, being unable to resolve them on her own is very normal."
"Oh." Shi Wangyue nodded noncommittally, "Do you still want to cut the flowers?"
"No. I’m done." Ning Youguang handed him the flower snips, "Check if there’s any you want to cut."
Shi Wangyue took the snips, clipped twice, and cut off two blooming orchids, "That’s enough."
"Why did you cut them?" Ning Youguang exclaimed.
"What’s wrong?" Shi Wangyue asked.
