Chapter 199: "It’s Clearer to See This Way...
Victor Morgan forcefully parted Jessie Sterling’s lips, plundering her mouth without restraint.
He claimed every inch of her mouth as his own.
For a moment, the car was filled with nothing but heavy panting.
By the time they finished, Jessie Sterling had crumpled the fabric of Victor Morgan’s shirt in her grasp.
Victor Morgan lowered his head and nibbled on Jessie Sterling’s ear. He whispered something, his words followed by a short, breathy chuckle.
Jessie Sterling’s face instantly flushed crimson.
She mumbled a few words, shot Victor Morgan a glare, and retreated to her seat, refusing to look at the man in the driver’s seat.
Victor Morgan couldn’t help but chuckle at her reaction.
Jessie Sterling had just called him sanctimonious. ’Besides "prudish," this is the first time in my thirty years I’ve ever received such a critique.’
’And both from Jessie Sterling, of course.’
’Although, looking at things now, it seems her assessment of me isn’t entirely without merit.’
’But so what?’
’Jessie Sterling isn’t just anyone. She can say whatever she wants.’
After Victor Morgan left the underground parking garage with Jessie Sterling, another group of people came down from a nearby elevator, all of them Apex Films employees.
Many employees at Apex Films had been working overtime lately. *Glory* had become a massive hit, which brought in a flood of new advertisers. On top of that, they had to arrange for the main cast to do promotional tours at various media companies, schedule fan meetings for their up-and-coming actors, and deal with the ongoing lawsuits against Thorne Pictures. It was no wonder so many people were putting in extra hours.
But no one was complaining about the overtime.
After all, who could complain when the boss was so generous?
Every time, the overtime pay was substantial—double the usual rate on weekdays. The company even provided meals. And if the boss happened to be in, there was a good chance she’d send out cash bonuses in the group chat. Who wouldn’t love a job like that?
After the group came out of the elevator, they saw their boss’s Valhalla.
The car was incredibly cool. Its lines were sleek and elegant; few could find any fault with its design.
Not long after Jessie Sterling took over, the entire company knew the car was their boss’s pride and joy.
"Is the boss still here?" one of them asked.
"Probably," another young woman beside her replied. "When she first took over, I thought the company was finished. We’d just been sold off, after all. Who could have imagined this? HAHAHA! Once Thorne Pictures goes down, Apex will be the industry leader again. It’s crazy how things change. It feels like something out of a fantasy novel!"
She was at the perfect age to build her career. If Jessie Sterling hadn’t arrived and breathed new life into the stagnant waters of Apex, she probably would have jumped ship to another company this year.
"Stick with President Sterling, and there’s plenty to go around!" the group said with a laugh.
Just then, someone noticed something unusual inside Jessie Sterling’s car.
"Hey! Wait a minute, there seems to be something in President Sterling’s car," someone said.
That immediately caught everyone’s attention.
Jessie Sterling was their one and only true boss, and with the recent high-stakes climate, the Apex staff were naturally on high alert for any foul play.
So, their suspicions raised, they all crowded around the car, pressing their faces to the windows to get a look inside, afraid they might miss something.
But when they got a closer look, they realized it wasn’t a rival’s sabotage. Instead, at some point, their boss’s car had been filled to the brim with fresh flowers.
There were so many, in fact, that the flowers looked like they were about to burst through the windows.
They were overflowing.
"Gasp—" After a moment of silence, someone finally spoke. "This must be a surprise from President Morgan, right?"
Someone next to them nodded. "Besides President Morgan, who else would have a key to her car?"
"Should we get out of here, then? It would be so embarrassing if we interrupted them."
"Hey, wait, let me take a picture. Ah! It’s so beautiful inside!"
The group moved quickly. From the decision to leave to snapping a photo and departing, only a few seconds passed.
They kept looking back as they walked away.
Who wouldn’t be jealous of that?
A car completely full of tulips. It was just so romantic.
The person who took the picture immediately posted it in the company’s gossip chat group.
A single photo made the chat explode.
Even without a caption, everyone in the company, from top to bottom, recognized Jessie Sterling’s car.
"Oh my god, I’ve seen him in news interviews before, but never a photo. He always seemed so stern and serious, the type who never smiles. I never would have guessed!"
"Just goes to show how amazing our boss is. She’s completely tamed President Morgan, haha."
"Seeing other people’s romance makes me believe in love again."
"An entire car full of flowers... Another day, another tear shed for someone else’s perfect romance!"
Jessie Sterling had no idea that in the eyes of her employees, her image had transformed from a capable boss into a master husband-tamer.
After having dinner out with Victor Morgan, they returned to Sixi Courtyard. The moment Jessie pushed open the door, even before turning on the lights, she noticed something was different about the room.
The scent of fresh flowers filled her every breath.
Motion-activated light strips along the floor flickered on, casting a soft, hazy glow throughout the entire room.
The light wasn’t bright, but it was enough for Jessie to make out the room’s decor.
’She couldn’t imagine how much time Victor Morgan had spent on this.’
The entire Sixi Courtyard was filled with tulips.
Some were in full bloom, others were just budding, making her feel as if she had stepped into a world made entirely of flowers.
Jessie turned and had just switched on the main lights when the man behind her suddenly pressed close, scooping her up into his arms.
Victor Morgan’s embrace was scorching, as were his lips and tongue.
In a daze, Jessie wanted to ask Victor to turn off the lights. It was just the two of them in Sixi Courtyard, with locked gates to both the front and back yards, so no one could possibly get in.
But Jessie felt she still wasn’t ready to do... *things*... under such bright lights.
But when she voiced her request, she only heard Victor Morgan’s low chuckle next to her ear.
And the lights overhead were still very bright, showing no sign of turning off.
"Why not leave them on?"
The man’s voice was like a spell, making Jessie blush to the roots of her hair.
She reached out to push him away, but how could she match Victor Morgan’s strength?
When Victor Morgan truly wanted to do something with her, Jessie stood no chance against him.
