Chapter 77 Gentleness Only for One Person
Chapter 77 Gentleness Only for One Person
"I won't see anyone! I've already said I won't see anyone!"
The man, his body wrapped in bandages, lay sprawled on the bed like a defeated lion, showing none of his usual gentle demeanor.
Qiu Tong looked at her husband, tears welling up in her eyes, but no matter how hard she tried, they wouldn't fall, so she had to give up.
"Metef has come to see you several times, each time making excuses. He's clearly become suspicious. Today, no matter what I say, he won't leave and insists on staying here to wait for you." Qiu Tong leaned down and tried to speak in a respectful and sincere tone. "If you don't see him, I'm afraid there will be some strange rumors. Please see him."
Wen Bin remained silent, while Qiu Tong patiently waited for his reply.
After a long pause, Wen Bin said quietly, "Let him come over."
Joel followed the butler through the luxuriously decorated corridor. He was dressed in exquisite aristocratic attire, every strand of hair was neatly styled, and his features were handsome and upright. Unfortunately, his steps were unsteady, and despite his prime age, he gave off an air of decadence from long-term indulgence in wine and women.
The butler led him to the bedroom of the Wen family patriarch and knocked on the door.
Qiu Tong opened the door, greeted Joel, and then left, leaving only Wen Bin and Joel in the bedroom.
The room was dimly lit, with the curtains drawn even in broad daylight. Heavy bed curtains hung down, obscuring the figure of the person on the bed. If Joel hadn't recognized Wenbin's voice, he would have wondered if he had been switched at birth.
"Ahem..." Wen Bin coughed lightly a couple of times before speaking, "The weather on Anjiangxing has been unpredictable lately, and I've caught a cold. I'm afraid of infecting you, so I can only meet you in this impolite way. Please forgive me."
He seemed unable to speak loudly, and could only communicate with Joel in a weak voice.
Joel nodded slightly: "I didn't mean to bother you, but there are some things we can't discuss on the terminal."
"Besides... it is indeed unsettling when a partner suddenly disappears." He changed the subject, "As you know, I have the powerful Metef family behind me. A misstep could affect the interests of the entire family, so I have to be careful."
Although he used polite language towards Wen Bin, his words were full of disrespect.
Wen Bin's face was ashen, and after a few perfunctory pleasantries, he stopped being polite to Joel: "I came all the way to Anjiang Star hoping you could provide some valuable information."
"Last time I asked you to order the Level 8 T-series parts as a gift for Blackfire, and you couldn't even do something as simple as that." Wen Bin chuckled, then quickly stopped.
Even a slight smile now aches his wound, and his resentment has only grown stronger.
As the heir to a large family, almost no one dared to mock Joel to his face. Now, after Wenbin said this, his facial muscles twitched, and his handsome features became distorted.
He said indignantly, "Our initial expectation was at most five million, but who knew that madman Ling Suyu would offer ten million for a single part? I've already done more than enough by raising it to seven million."
Wen Bin remained silent.
In the tense atmosphere, Joel could not see anyone through the bed curtains, but he could imagine the cold smile on the lips of the Wen family patriarch.
After a moment of silence, Wen Bin said, "Let's put this matter aside for now. Is there any news about Blackfire from the Border Star?"
Blackfire, though a notorious interstellar pirate, is extremely mysterious and elusive. Despite years of being wanted by the Empire, he has failed to capture. Little is known about him except that he possesses exceptional strength, a 3S-class stealth mech, and an intense hatred for the royal family.
Joel's gloom vanished, replaced by a smug smile: "With my personal involvement, I naturally reaped the rewards."
It was worth it for him to dress in such shabby clothes and mingle among those lowly people for so long.
"Isn't it said that Blackfires mostly appear in border areas where alien beasts are active?" Joel smirked. "I stayed in Rinogg for two days, but I couldn't wait for him, so I used some... little tricks to lure a few alien beasts to nearby Ninoto and Marcellus."
Wen Bin frowned: "These two places seem to have never seen any strange beasts before. Aren't you afraid of arousing suspicion?"
"As the old saying goes, fortune favors the bold. Lately, the monsters have been very active, so what's wrong with a few new places appearing?" Joel smiled nonchalantly. "It's precisely because they're different from the past that they're more likely to attract Blackfire."
He stated with certainty, "Blackfire is currently on the border planet of Ninoto."
*
Outside Ling Suyu's room window stands a large tree, its verdant branches swaying in the wind. Occasionally, a leaf or two is swept away by the wind, brushing across the clean wall with the sunlight. Paired with the framed window, it appears to Wen Shumu as a beautiful oil painting presented by nature.
This was the only external scene he could see during these three days.
Wen Shumu felt like a soft, fluffy honey pancake, sprawled out on the bed.
Because my whole body aches.
Especially my waist and legs, I can't move them at all.
He struggled to raise one hand, the sunlight shining on his bare skin, revealing... specks of pink amidst the old whip marks.
These are traces left by my brother.
It's not just here, it's everywhere.
Wen Shumu's face gradually turned the same color, and he pulled his arms back into the quilt, wrapping himself up.
His fever has subsided and he is now fully conscious.
Although the process was hazy and confused, my memory was so good that I remembered every detail clearly.
Everything was out of control, as if I were floating and sinking in an endless ocean.
It was really tiring... but also wonderful.
There's only one regrettable thing.
Ling Suyu did not mark him for life.
Wen Shumu turned over, gazing blankly at the lush greenery outside the window.
He could sense that his brother wanted to, but held back at the last moment.
When Ling Suyu came out of the shower, all he saw was a bundle of blankets with its back to him.
A smile appeared in his eyes as he lay back on the bed, turned sideways, and hugged her through the blanket.
Surrounded by the familiar, refreshing scent, Wen Shumu relaxed, peeked out from under the covers, turned back, and smiled at Alpha face to face.
As their gazes met, Ling Suyu lowered his head and slowly approached her slightly swollen, moist lips.
He kissed this place countless times in those three days.
Wen Shumu obediently closed his eyes to welcome him.
Just as the sticker was put up, a knock sounded on the door, and Allison's cautious voice came through.
"Marshal, Madam, the desserts have arrived."
Wen Shumu had no choice but to open his eyes again, but Ling Suyu did not stop, instead kissing him more and more deeply.
It wasn't until Wen Shumu, panting heavily, nudged his shoulder that the conversation ended.
Allison knocked only twice and then wisely waited in the hallway.
If he didn't have something to say, he would usually leave after putting down his things. He only waited here because he thought Wen Shumu's fever should have ended.
Not long after, the door opened.
Three days later, Allison finally met the Marshal.
Alpha was dressed neatly in his pajamas, but there were new wrinkles on them, indicating that he had just gotten out of bed. He was handsome, with a cold expression, but his overall demeanor was much softer than before.
Of course, this tenderness vanished instantly upon seeing Allison waiting outside.
Allison: "..."
As expected, the marshal's gentleness had its limits, reserved only for one person.
Alright, alright, let's get down to business.
Allison met Ling Suyu's sharp gaze and said, "I've already contacted Dr. Peng Qing."
