Chapter 59 You Have Talent
Chapter 59 You Have Talent
At 4 PM, the preliminary round of this year's StarCraft Mech League officially ended, and the top 32 teams will enter the next round of intensive preparations. The judges and some staff members are temporarily relieved.
Ling Suyu is busy with official duties and will definitely not be a judge in the next round of the competition. Chu Zhao and Ludwig will have to continue. Fortunately, the guests will be given a break after the recording of "Love's Star Journey" on Narentis Star, so that everyone can take care of various real-life matters.
The venue was very close to Narentis University, only a ten-minute walk away, but to avoid attracting too much attention and causing a commotion, they each took their own means of transportation.
Wen Shumu originally wanted to wait for Ling Suyu to go together, but Ling Suyu said that he had some things to take care of and asked Wen Shumu to go with the master first, and that he would come later.
Adolphus's aircraft was waiting at the VIP entrance, carrying Wen Shumu and Adolphus and his apprentices to the laboratory.
The crew of "Love's Star Journey" couldn't film inside Adolphus's laboratory, but Ye Jingxi was invited by the Narentis University Medical School to participate in a symposium. Filming was allowed for such official exchange activities. Jiang Hong also said she wanted to visit the top-notch mecha university, so the crew drove into the campus.
As Chang Ye said, Narentis University does indeed cover an area of 1,000 hectares. In addition to several flagship majors centered around mecha, it also offers hundreds of other majors, supplying a large number of talents to various sectors every year.
Adolphus's laboratory is located in the Manufacturing Academy building. The gray building, which is thirty or forty stories high, is not conspicuous on Narentis, a planet full of skyscrapers. However, the research and development here can change the entire mecha industry.
The aircraft landed on the rooftop, and Adolphus jumped down in a flurry of activity. He and Chu Zhao walked and discussed the processing steps of the parts for the Ice Rift, showing no trace of the dejection he had shown on the first day when facing that group of leaders.
Wen Shumu walked at the back, secretly observing his surroundings.
Upon entering the building, there was a row of elevators in front of him, but Adolphus, who was walking at the front, ignored the elevators and headed towards the corner.
Turning the corner, Wen Shumu discovered that there was another elevator here, with a silver door that looked much more upscale than the row of elevators outside.
This elevator requires a manual password and facial recognition to start.
After Adolphus performed a series of actions, the elevator doors slowly opened.
Upon entering the elevator, Wen Shumu saw Ludwig next to him raise his hand and press "-3".
"Is the laboratory underground?" Wen Shumu asked.
Ludwig nodded: "It's all from the third to the fifth basement level."
The elevator slowly descended, the space enclosed but not silent. Adolphus became more and more engrossed in his conversation, his eyebrows dancing with excitement. Shi Yi listened to his master and senior brother's conversation from the side, frantically taking notes on the virtual screen.
He learned his lesson and was afraid that his master would ask him another unexpected question.
The group quickly arrived at the third basement level. They stepped out of the elevator, walked through a long corridor, passed through several fingerprint and facial recognition doors, and finally entered a spacious lobby.
Wen Shumu's imagined laboratory was all from movie scenes, such as a group of elites wearing white coats and glasses, probably like Dr. Ye, holding documents, looking hurried, with data constantly scrolling on the floating projection.
It's not like this at all...
Many of these researchers did wear glasses, but their hair was all messy and sticking up haphazardly, as if they hadn't taken care of it for days. They looked listless, and their clothes were casually dressed, with specks of engine oil on them.
When they arrived, some researchers greeted them, while others didn't even look up, clearly still engrossed in the data.
A capable-looking woman with a black stain on her face walked over: "Professor, Dr. Chu, the tools are all ready."
Adolphus gestured for Chu Zhao to come over, and Chu Zhao rolled up his sleeves and walked into the room deep inside, with Ludwig following closely behind.
Seeing that Adolphus was still standing there, Wen Shumu asked, "Professor, aren't you going over there?"
"The parts for the Ice Rift are naturally left to its maker; I can only offer some suggestions at most," Adolphus replied with a smile.
He then looked at the woman: "Qiao Zi, wipe the dust off your face."
Qiao Zi didn't care at all: "If I wipe it, it'll just turn into this again later, so forget it." She turned around and continued to deal with her work.
Adolphus: "..."
He awkwardly led Wen Shumu towards his office: "That's how it is in our line of work, dealing with mechs every day. You never know where you'll get covered in dust."
Wen Shumu laughed: "It's definitely different from the laboratory I imagined. I feel much more at ease."
"Haha, you used that word well. Those old fogies from the Mech Administration actually said we were too casual." Adolphus opened the office door, walked in, and plopped down on the sofa.
Wen Shumu stood politely near the door, not because he didn't want to sit down, but because... he simply couldn't find a place to stand.
The floor, sofa, table, and shelves were piled with parts of all shapes and sizes, as well as many small mecha models.
Adolphus noticed the situation and picked up the parts from the sofa next to him, put them on the table, and beckoned Wen Shumu to come and sit down.
He looked at the parts on the table, then suddenly remembered something and pointed to one of the red square parts: "Do you know what this is?"
Wen Shumu's gaze swept over it, and he quickly matched it with the scene in his memory: "It's the converter part L-3179 that you mentioned before."
Adolphus got the answer he wanted, and his smile widened: "You not only have a good memory, but you're also very focused, have a keen eye for numbers, and don't let things go in one ear and out the other. You'd be perfect for working in the mecha industry."
Wen Shumu smiled, assuming the master was just being polite: "This also requires a foundation of extensive knowledge, which I am far from possessing."
"You have talent, and it's a talent that many people crave. You can be more confident in yourself. Don't be afraid of lacking knowledge; just learn." Adolphus's smile faded slightly, and he became serious. "Have you thought about going to university or finding a mentor?"
Wen Shumu paused for a moment, then shook his head: "I haven't thought about it yet. I was just thinking about finding a job."
He has only recently started thinking about his future and hasn't considered it thoroughly yet.
Adolphus got up and brought over two cups. Wen Shumu immediately took them, poured tea for him, and poured himself a cup as well.
"Look at me, the whole universe knows that I was exiled halfway through the stars and built two 3S-class mechs, which is why I have achieved my current worldly success."
"But I never went to university. I learned everything on my own, piecing things together and figuring things out from all over the place. It was really tough. Back in the Empire, I even went to other schools to learn from them. Chu Zhao's father was a lecturer in the mecha department, and he helped me a lot back then," Adolphus said with a smile. "But now he's been promoted to Professor Chu."
"I even followed some space pirates. Let me tell you, they were full of hidden talents. I met an exceptionally skilled mecha pilot there, whose strength was probably on par with Marshal Ling. He gave me a lot of inspiration, and I even made some for him..." Adolphus seemed to have some reservations and changed the subject. "Sigh, let's not talk about it. It's all old news."
Wen Shumu listened attentively. He knew that the master was thinking of him and was using his own experience as an example. These words came from the bottom of his heart and were very sincere.
"If you just want to find a job to make a living, given your current status, you don't need to go through all this trouble. You could easily make a fortune by doing some live streaming on the StarNet."
Adolphus looked at him and said, "But if you want to make a name for yourself in a certain field and help Marshal Ling, it's difficult to achieve without systematic learning. Otherwise, you'll end up like me, wandering around and taking many detours."
