Chapter 300 Looks Like You
Chapter 300 Looks Like You
Shen Qingqing was sent to the military hospital.
The child wouldn’t be born for a while, so they proceeded with the hospitalization first.
Jiang Zhixun stayed with Shen Qingqing and couldn’t leave her side, so Madam Jiang handled all the errands.
To ensure her daughter-in-law and grandson were comfortable, Madam Jiang chose a private room.
Everything else was organized efficiently.
By the time Father Jiang arrived at the hospital with Old Jiang, everything that needed to be done was completed, and they only had to wait for the child to be born.
"There’s nothing left for me to do." Father Jiang said.
Madam Jiang replied, "Just take care of Old Jiang."
Old Jiang sat upright on the bench, looking spirited and years younger.
"I don’t need your care; just look after Qingqing and the child."
About to meet his great-grandchild, Old Jiang was very happy and asked Madam Jiang, "Childbirth requires energy; should we prepare some food for Qingqing? I can’t help much here, so I’ll go to the canteen and get her something to eat."
Old Jiang wasn’t in good health, so Madam Jiang dared not let him buy food.
Seeing them arrive so quickly, it was clear they hadn’t eaten enough.
She told Father Jiang, "You go buy it, or take Old Jiang to the canteen to eat a little more, and on the way back, get Qingqing something easy to digest. Don’t buy anything oily. After she gives birth, I’ll make chicken and fish broth for her to replenish her strength."
When Madam Jiang had Jiang Zhixun, it was Father Jiang who took care of her during her confinement, so he had some experience.
As a man, he couldn’t be of much help in the ward, so he might as well run some errands.
She instructed Jiang Zhixun to take good care of Shen Qingqing, "Don’t go anywhere, just tell us if there’s anything going on, we’ll handle it."
Jiang Zhixun nodded.
At times like these, he didn’t want to leave his wife.
Without seeing Qingqing and the child safely through the ordeal, he couldn’t be at ease.
The labor pains came in waves.
At first, Shen Qingqing could endure them, but later she was sweating from the pain.
Jiang Zhixun felt incredibly distressed, but he couldn’t withstand the pain of childbirth for her.
Other than comforting her and staying with her, there was nothing he could do.
Jiang Zhixun’s eyes were red-rimmed, and there was a glint of tears.
He knew childbirth was difficult, but seeing Shen Qingqing tortured by labor pains, he realized how shallow his imagination had been.
Having a baby wasn’t something that happened as soon as the contractions started.
This pain would last for a long time.
Jiang Zhixun consoled Shen Qingqing, "After this one, we won’t have any more."
Shen Qingqing, in unbearable pain, didn’t want to go through it a second time either.
She said with difficulty, "If there has to be another, you do it yourself."
Jiang Zhixun said firmly, "No more, just this one."
Jiang Zhixun was an only child, and Madam Jiang also thought one was good.
It’s easier that way.
But if there were more, she wouldn’t mind.
At this critical moment, she didn’t contradict Shen Qingqing, instead, she comforted her, "Follow the doctor’s instructions later and save your strength. When the doctor tells you to push, do it. Stay calm, and if you cooperate well, the baby will come quicker."
Shen Qingqing nodded, "I know."
Even though it wasn’t the final moment, she was already in so much pain, yet she didn’t utter a sound. Jiang Zhixun, apart from holding Shen Qingqing’s hand tightly to give her strength, didn’t know what else he could do.
The doctor took Shen Qingqing away and wheeled her into the delivery room.
Jiang Zhixun instinctively wanted to follow, but was stopped by the nurse, "Family members wait outside."
"I need to go in and stay with her."
The nurse sternly stated, "Only medical staff are allowed to enter."
Afraid his son might cause problems, Madam Jiang hurriedly pulled Jiang Zhixun aside, "Don’t disrupt the doctors’ work, just wait here and don’t go anywhere."
With his wife in the delivery room giving birth, where else could Jiang Zhixun go?
He couldn’t even sit down and wait.
So he stood straight at the delivery room door, praying over and over in his heart that Qingqing and the child would be safe!
Madam Jiang understood how he felt and didn’t urge him further; he could remain standing as long as he didn’t mess up at a crucial time.
Since Shen Qingqing returned home, this was the first time Jiang Zhixun experienced what it meant for a day to feel endless.
He felt Shen Qingqing had been inside for a very, very long time, yet she still hadn’t come out.
The sky had turned completely dark.
After an unknown length of time, the tightly closed door finally opened.
Jiang Zhixun stood with his feet stiff and felt like he was stepping on cotton when he walked forward. His tall body swayed, almost losing his balance.
Father Jiang and Madam Jiang couldn’t bear to watch, just as they were about to step forward to ask about the situation, Jiang Zhixun darted ahead of them.
He asked nervously, "Doctor, how’s my wife?"
"The mother and baby are both doing well, they’ll be out shortly."
Jiang Zhixun let out a heavy sigh of relief.
His eyes suddenly felt a stinging pressure, as long as Qingqing was safe, he wanted nothing else.
Watching him forget to ask about the baby,
Madam Jiang stepped forward, "Doctor, what did my daughter-in-law have, a boy or a girl?"
This question mattered too.
Both Father Jiang and Old Jiang perked up their ears.
The doctor smiled, "They’re fraternal twins, you have both a boy and a girl."
The Jiang Family was completely stunned.
They were so shocked by the news that even Jiang Zhixun was a bit dazed.
No wonder his wife’s belly was so big, they all thought it was because the baby was too big, not realizing she was carrying two.
With two babies at once, Jiang Zhixun’s legs became even weaker.
Father Jiang scolded him, "Useless."
Then he cheerfully thanked the doctor.
This was a big figure in the military district, and for the doctor, speaking to Father Jiang was an utmost honor.
The doctor carefully detailed the condition of the mother and babies and reminded them of postpartum care.
Having explained everything clearly, the doctor left first.
Madam Jiang was dizzy with happiness, "Old Jiang, we have both a grandson and a granddaughter now!"
Father Jiang was also happy.
With a usually serious face, he was now smiling noticeably.
"Great, now the house will be lively."
Even one child brings so much joy.
With two at once, it’ll probably be chaotic!
After waiting a little while longer, Shen Qingqing and both babies were finally brought out.
The elders, adoring the children, gathered around to have a look.
Jiang Zhixun only had eyes for Shen Qingqing, holding her slender wrist, feeling her temperature; the tight string inside his body finally began to loosen.
"Wife, you’ve worked hard."
Shen Qingqing, exhausted and in pain, finally out of the delivery room, felt inexplicably like she had been reborn.
Her spirits lifted, and she didn’t feel like sleeping at all.
She urged, "Quickly, take me back to the ward."
Once back in the ward, she wanted to take a good look at the two babies; she hadn’t been able to see them clearly.
She just remembered they were red and wrinkled.
Even their foreheads were a bit dirty.
She wondered who they resembled.
Jiang Zhixun’s head was spinning, everything was different from what he imagined.
But seeing how spirited Shen Qingqing was, he was genuinely happy.
He and the nurse moved Shen Qingqing back to the ward. Once settled, Shen Qingqing wanted to see the babies, "Move them closer so I can see them again."
The two little bundles lay side by side in the crib. Having just been crying, they were now quiet and sleeping with their eyes closed.
Jiang Zhixun didn’t pick them up, instead moved the small bed next to the hospital bed, making it easier for Shen Qingqing to see them.
He sincerely said, "They look like you, beautiful."
