After Changing to the Ruthless Way, the Brothers Cried and Begged for Forgiveness

Chapter 399: If I Die, Will You Forgive Me?

Chapter 399: If I Die, Will You Forgive Me?

“Don’t mind him! Quickly, tell me where you’ve been and all the fun things you’ve experienced lately!”

Yao Wu Ji, brimming with excitement, dragged Yu Zhao away.

Yu Zhao followed her lead, chatting animatedly, completely ignoring Wang Sheng.

After the two left, Wu Shao Zhen’s trembling frame stilled. He scanned his surroundings to ensure no one was near, then sliced his wrist with his fingertip as though it were a blade.

Next, he bit his tongue and spat out a drop of dark blood.

Unlike ordinary crimson blood, his tongue’s blood was a deep, ominous purple-black, emitting a peculiar scent detectable only by insects and beasts.

The creatures slithering within him stirred instantly. His skin bulged grotesquely, forming lumps that wriggled unnervingly.

One by one, the insects emerged from his wounds, swarming eagerly toward the blood drop pooled in a small jar.

Wu Shao Zhen observed the growing number of creatures, sealed his wounds, and allowed them to cluster around his injuries, tugging at his skin. With an impassive face, he picked up the hideous creatures and began chewing and swallowing them.

Neither Hermit Bao Hua nor Yao Wu Ji knew the true nature of his body. While they assumed his immunity to poisonous insects was unique, they had no inkling that his original form was a lowly insect beast, for whom devouring such creatures was a great nourishment. All his reactions were but a facade to deceive them.

Initially, he intended to lay low, wait for an opportune moment, and escape.

But now, he had changed his mind.

Before leaving, he must meet Yu Zhao alone.

Whether or not she remembered him, he needed her to know he existed.

Unaware that another malicious entity had taken an interest in her, Yu Zhao went to Harmony Sound Temple after catching up with Yao Wu Ji to visit Long Fei Fei.

Long Fei Fei’s condition had barely improved since Yu Zhao last saw her. Though the bandages had been removed, her slightly sickly demeanor and slouched posture on the bed hinted she was far from normal.

“Yu Zhao! Yu Zhao! You came back just in time! Help me kick out those Five Elements Dao Sect scoundrels! They’re driving me mad!”

Long Fei Fei complained the moment she saw Yu Zhao, pounding her bed in frustration, her eyes wide with anger.

Yu Zhao immediately guessed that she must have encountered Fang Cheng Lang and his group, resulting in some kind of conflict.

Her curiosity piqued, Yu Zhao dragged a chair to sit opposite Long Fei Fei. “Tell me what happened.”

“That Fang Cheng Lang’s an absolute lunatic! Ever since he learned about my injuries, he’s been visiting every day, claiming he wants to take care of me. Who asked for his care? Every time he’s here, he looks like he’s attending a funeral—so unlucky! He’s even worse than those cheerful bald monks!”

Frustrated from days of bed rest and Fang Cheng Lang’s daily harassment, Long Fei Fei seemed on the verge of an explosion, needing only a spark to ignite her fury.

Yu Zhao smirked. “So, you don’t like Fang Cheng Lang?”

Long Fei Fei looked affronted, as if Yu Zhao had insulted her honor. “Why would I like a wooden block who doesn’t understand human words? Yu Zhao, you can insult me, but don’t insult my taste!”

Yu Zhao chuckled.

In their past lives, Long Fei Fei had fallen for Fang Cheng Lang at first sight. Despite repeated rejections, she had persisted, declaring she would marry no one else. In the end, her determination won him over, and they shared a brief romance.

“What’s so funny?”

Long Fei Fei’s confusion grew at Yu Zhao’s cryptic smile.

“Nothing. I just wanted to ask if you really don’t want to see Fang Cheng Lang anymore?”

“Not at all! I don’t want to see him even a little bit!”

Long Fei Fei wailed, clutching her head.

A man like that, stiff and boring, would only bring her endless misery. She couldn’t stand another second of it!

Wait, why had she said “anymore”?

“I’ll speak to Silence and ask him to keep the Five Elements Dao Sect’s people from bothering you again,” Yu Zhao offered, unwilling to meet Fang Cheng Lang herself.

Long Fei Fei, distracted, eagerly nodded. “Good, good. Tell those bald monks to kick them out completely—don’t leave a single one!”

Seeing her lips turn pale after a few sentences, Yu Zhao took her leave, advising her to rest well.

Under Long Fei Fei’s reluctant gaze, Yu Zhao stepped out and walked a few steps before rounding a corner, only to come face-to-face with a figure clad in moon-white robes.

Yu Zhao chuckled lightly. “Looks like I won’t need to trouble Silence after all.”

She stepped to the center of the path, blocking his way.

Though she did not deliberately release her aura, her presence was hard to ignore.

“Little Six…”

Fang Cheng Lang’s lips moved faintly as he called her name in a voice barely audible.

Yu Zhao scrutinized him from head to toe. Since they last met, Fang Cheng Lang had reached the Nascent Soul stage—two years later than in their past lives.

“Fang Cheng Lang, you remember your past life, don’t you?”

“Yes.”

Had anyone else asked, Fang Cheng Lang might have hesitated. But since Yu Zhao was the one questioning him, he answered without pause.

“Then you must know who was responsible for Long Fei Fei’s death in our past lives?”

“…Yes.”

This time, he hesitated before nodding.

“So why are you still seeking Long Fei Fei?”

Although he hadn’t caused Long Fei Fei’s death directly, he had misidentified the culprit, venting his fury on innocents while associating with the true perpetrator. He had no right to rekindle their connection.

Fang Cheng Lang’s face turned pale as his lips moved soundlessly.

He knew he shouldn’t approach Long Fei Fei.

She didn’t remember him and resented him due to Yu Zhao’s influence, refusing his kindness altogether.

But he couldn’t stop himself from missing her.

Just seeing the vibrant Long Fei Fei, even if she cursed or struck him, was enough for him.

Yu Zhao’s blunt words shattered his illusions.

Long Fei Fei didn’t want to see him.

Just as Yu Zhao wouldn’t forgive him.

The more he did, the greater his mistakes.

Fang Cheng Lang gazed at Yu Zhao, whose expression was as indifferent as ever. Agony like a blade cut through his heart.

A silent tear slid down his cheek.

“Little Six… I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m sorry for everything—to you, to Fei Fei. I never wanted to hurt you. I truly regret it…”

His voice choked as he struggled to breathe.

He opened his empty hands and clenched them tightly.

“I only wanted to make things right, but nothing works… nothing… Little Six, my heart hurts so much. If I die, will you forgive me? Should I just die?”

Gripping his sword, he drew it with a blinding flash of white light.

Placing the blade at his neck, Fang Cheng Lang stared at Yu Zhao with despair in his eyes, his face devoid of life.
