Chapter 387: Do They Think Shes That Foolish?
Chapter 387: Do They Think Shes That Foolish?
Su Ming rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
Could he have missed Yu Zhao so much that he was hallucinating? Otherwise, why would he see Yu Zhao at the Harmony Sound Temple?
He shut his eyes, counted to three, and opened them again.
Under the Bodhi Tree, Yu Zhao’s figure remained, even clearer than before.
It wasn’t a hallucination—she was really there!
Ecstatic, Su Ming’s face lit up with joy. He opened his mouth to call out to her but stopped abruptly when her cold expression flashed in his mind.
His lips clamped shut, fists tightening as his expression turned conflicted.
Ever since recovering his past life’s memories, Su Ming had realized how gravely wrong he had been. Thinking about all he had done and said to Yu Zhao, he felt a deep, almost unbearable regret.
He suspected that Yu Zhao, too, had regained memories of her past life. This might explain her growing distance from them.
If he had any self-awareness, he wouldn’t disturb her—but he couldn’t help himself. He simply couldn’t!This was Yu Zhao, his most beloved junior sister and his best friend!
They had promised to be lifelong companions, the closest of friends.
He had only been swayed by Ye Cong Xin’s manipulation, leading him to commit those foolish actions. It wasn’t truly his intention!
From now on, such things would never happen again. He would protect Yu Zhao with his life.
So…
Yu Zhao.
Forgive me.
Please?
Su Ming’s expression shifted between pain and unease as he stared fixedly at Yu Zhao.
Yu Zhao, who had been contemplating the advice from Master Jie Tan, was suddenly pulled from her thoughts by the burning intensity of Su Ming’s gaze.
She cast him a fleeting glance, her mind as clear as a mirror.
Su Ming’s look was one she recognized all too well—she had seen the same regretful expression on Fang Cheng Lang, Cui Jue, and even Master Qing Yan.
They were sorry.
After she had died once, after she had come to see things for what they truly were, after she had given up on them—they finally realized their mistakes and felt remorse.
They appeared in various places, feigning enlightenment and deep regret, begging for her forgiveness.
Yu Zhao wanted to ask: Do they think I’m that foolish?
The issues between them weren’t mere misunderstandings—they involved her life and the countless lives of innocent cultivators.
Her decision to not take revenge wasn’t due to some lofty morality or benevolence. She simply wanted to witness firsthand what would become of them without her sacrifice.
The outcome thus far pleased her. She had no intention of changing it and certainly no intention of forgiving them.
After giving Su Ming a brief glance, she looked away.
People like him could no longer affect her emotions.
Su Ming, who had been watching her intently, noticed her glance and tensed up. His anxiety and apprehension flickered across his eyes.
Soon, however, a storm brewed within him, tearing down every emotion, leaving only emptiness.
Yu Zhao didn’t acknowledge him.
She didn’t want him anymore…
Frozen in place, Su Ming stood stiffly, his expression numb, like a lifeless stone statue.
A soft breeze rustled the Bodhi Tree, its leaves brushing against each other, creating a faint, ethereal sound.
Snapping out of his daze, Su Ming’s face hardened with resolve.
He couldn’t accept losing Yu Zhao.
Even if she greeted him with cold indifference, even if she ignored him, he wouldn’t give up.
“Yu Zhao!”
He took a large step toward her, his pace quickening with each step.
Just as he was about to reach the Bodhi Tree, an invisible force bound his body, stopping him from moving further.
At that moment, Yu Zhao stood up.
“Yu Zhao, don’t leave! Please!” Su Ming cried, his eyes bloodshot.
Yu Zhao ignored him and turned to leave.
From behind her came Su Ming’s anguished voice: “Yu Zhao! I was blind! I failed to see Ye Cong Xin’s true nature and aided her wrongdoing! I truly know I was wrong! Forgive me! I swear, everything I’ve gathered—all my treasures—will only ever be for you from now on!”
“It doesn’t matter if you won’t forgive me. Just don’t ignore me. Don’t shut me out! Yu Zhao, give me another chance… Please…”
By the end, Su Ming’s voice trembled, thick with sobs.
Yu Zhao paused mid-step.
Turning to face him, her eyes sparkled with a strange light.
Su Ming thought his words had moved her, and his spirits soared. He continued eagerly: “Yu Zhao, you know how lucky I’ve always been! Everything I buy turns out to be a treasure. If you don’t believe me, I can give you my storage ring! Take anything you want—even if you take it all, it doesn’t matter!”
Though Yu Zhao was looking at Su Ming, her mind had already drifted elsewhere. His words had reminded her of something important.
Back then, she had tricked Su Ming into giving her the Heavenly Divination Shell, which granted three opportunities for divination.
During the Dragon Roar Valley Trial, Senior Sister Zhou used one. Later, she used another for the Merfolk Tribe.
Now, there was one chance left.
It fit perfectly with what Master Jie Tan had said.
Yu Zhao bit her lip lightly, a hint of frustration flashing in her eyes.
How had she not realized this sooner? She had wasted so much time!
Regardless, whether it was the key or not, she would find out soon enough!
But before anything else, she needed a secluded, undisturbed place.
Meanwhile, Su Ming anxiously awaited her response.
To his dismay, Yu Zhao disappeared in the blink of an eye after a brief moment of stillness.
He reached out in vain, grasping nothing.
Fists clenched, his body trembled with bitterness.
He hated himself!
Why couldn’t he, like their eldest senior brother, awaken to his mistakes sooner?
If only he had realized earlier, he could have won Yu Zhao back!
Stumbling back to his quarters, Su Ming bumped into Cui Jue, who was watering plants in the courtyard.
Seeing Su Ming’s state, Cui Jue’s expression changed drastically. His voice shook as he asked, “Did you see Yu Zhao?”
Who else but Yu Zhao could reduce Su Ming to this state?
Su Ming didn’t want to answer.
Lowering his head, he strode toward his room.
But Cui Jue, ever persistent, trailed closely behind, peppering him with questions.
“Is Yu Zhao here at the Harmony Sound Temple? Why is she here? Is she in trouble? What did you say to her?”
Irritated, Su Ming snapped, “Yes, I saw Yu Zhao. So what? She doesn’t want to see us! Appearing in front of her only annoys her! What’s the point of knowing?”
“Why wouldn’t it matter?” Cui Jue sneered. “I’m not like you. I’ve never expected Yu Zhao’s forgiveness. I’m here to atone. As long as she lives well, that’s all I need in this life.”
Cui Jue understood Yu Zhao better than Su Ming did.
He also saw things more clearly.
He knew nothing he did could move Yu Zhao.
So he followed his heart and did what needed to be done.
Not troubling her was the last thing he could do for her.
Su Ming was left speechless.
After a long silence, he muttered, “She’s doing great—better than us. And she’ll only keep getting better.”
Cui Jue’s lips curled into a genuine smile.
“That’s good to hear.”
