After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic

Chapter 965: How Did We Not Die?!

Chapter 965: How Did We Not Die?!

Zoe Lewis felt that she had been asleep for a very long time, having a complicated and lengthy dream where she was both thirsty and hungry, suffering terribly.Someone seemed to be feeding her water little by little. When her throat felt a bit more comfortable, she finally struggled to open her eyes.

She experienced a moment of confusion.

All she saw was white, and she found herself lying in Leon’s arms. He had a small spoon, pinching her face, feeding her water sip by sip.

Was she still dreaming?

How could Leon possibly be holding her, feeding her water?

"Awake?"

His voice was slightly hoarse, tinged with a hint of apology: "Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? I can call a doctor to check on you."

Zoe Lewis’s drifting consciousness was instantly pulled back to her body, and she widened her eyes, looking at Leon: "We were rescued? We didn’t die?"

"No, we’re not dead. We’re in a hospital now, but you had some dehydration and a high fever."

Zoe listened to him speak, watching his lips move, and suddenly remembered that kiss as fast as lightning.

Oh no!

Wasn’t that kiss in vain?

She thought she was going to die in the mineshaft, so she wanted to try it with him.

Turns out they didn’t die!

What should she do?

Why was he holding her in such an intimate posture?

Zoe panicked, suddenly sitting up: "I..."

She had just said one word when her head bumped into Leon’s chin.

She heard him grunt, and then half a cup of warm water spilled all over her.

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, my mind is still a bit foggy, I... Ah! Who changed my clothes?!"

Leon saw her lively state and knew she was fine.

He rubbed his chin, which she had hit, glanced at her wet clothes, let go of her, and got off the bed: "Don’t worry, it wasn’t me."

Seeing Zoe breathe a sigh of relief, Leon’s face remained indifferent, seemingly ignoring her accidentally exposed skin: "Fix your clothes, I’ll get the doctor."

Zoe looked down, then was utterly confused.

What was there to fix about her clothes?

Though a large area was wet, the hospital gown was quite thick, revealing nothing.

Did he mind her exposed collarbone?

What could she do about that? The hospital gown’s neckline was just this big!

Zoe could only tug her clothes up a bit, and then suddenly realized, maybe he saw down from above when standing, being able to see down her neckline...

Zoe’s face instantly burned with embarrassment!

Her face was still red when the doctor came in.

Along with the doctor were Mr. and Mrs. Zuo.

Mr. Zuo appeared fine, but Mrs. Zuo looked like she had suddenly aged ten years. The elegant image of a noble lady was gone, her hair was a mess, her eyes were swollen beyond recognition, and her voice was completely hoarse.

She stood by the bed, crying, "Little Zoe, how are you? Your face is so red; it must be from a terrible fever! Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Should we call your parents?"

Zoe quickly said, "Auntie, I’m fine, I’m okay, no need to call them!"

Except for her sore throat and lack of strength, she had no ailments.

The face redness wasn’t because of a fever either...

Why was Mrs. Zuo crying like this?

And it didn’t seem like she cried because of Leon; Leon was standing there perfectly fine!

It seemed she cried out of concern for Zoe.

She felt touched, knowing Mrs. Zuo sincerely cared for her and felt distressed for her.

The doctor had already conducted a simple examination and then announced: "She’s fine now, ready for discharge."
