After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic

Chapter 694: Scapegoat?

Chapter 694: Scapegoat?

Connor saw Isabella Weaver turn her head to look at him, the corners of his lips lifted, returning her a bright smile, showing two rows of clean, neat teeth. This signature smile made him appear gentle and harmless, like a big brother from next door.

But in reality, he felt stifled and angry inside, just without expressing those negative emotions, all pressed down within him.

Because today he had fought with Hel twice, and lost both times!

As the top bodyguard of Harry Hunter, he actually lacked the ability to drive away the people behind him, he felt he was very derelict in his duties!

He took a few steps, turned back to glare at Hel, the gentleness on his face vanished, and he said in a low, gloomy voice, "Just how long are you planning to follow me? If you keep following me, I’ll make all of you disappear from this world!"

He couldn’t beat them on his own, so he’ll bring tens or hundreds of people, there has to be a time when he wins!

"Your Highness, even if you’re unwilling to return to the country with us, you absolutely cannot work as someone else’s bodyguard anymore!"

Hel had said this line no fewer than ten times already, and none of them could accept that their prince was dispatched by others, working as a thug and errand boy.

The two guards behind him who never spoke also couldn’t help but say, "Your Highness, this is damaging to the face of our royal family. You have a noble identity, you cannot do this kind of work anymore!"

"Your Highness, you are meant to inherit the throne of our kingdom, the S Kingdom now only has you as the heir, you cannot continue doing dangerous work, we will never leave, we will always be with you!"

No matter how good these three people spoke, Connor couldn’t be happy.

He had been living well, and suddenly people popped up saying he was some prince and was supposed to inherit some throne, interfering with all his life and actions, and he couldn’t shake them off!

He was someone without ambition, his past wish was so small that it was just to be able to eat enough food and not be locked inside a cage.

Now someone is saying he is a noble prince? To save a country?

Really ridiculous!

Connor’s expression was unmoved: "Perhaps there are other heirs, you guys go look for them, don’t keep following me."

"There are none left, Your Highness, our royal family’s bloodline is limited. Among those lost outside, there’s only you."

"Then why is it that no one else was lost outside, only I was thrown away?"

Hel lowered his head, not speaking.

Once the reason is spoken, he fears the prince will be even less likely to return to the country.

Connor knew for sure it wasn’t a reason that could convince him, otherwise, Hel would have said it long ago.

He no longer spoke to these few people, sped up his steps, caught up with Harry Hunter and Isabella Weaver, observed the surroundings, dutifully performing his role as a bodyguard.

Once Harry Hunter’s walk was over and he returned to the villa to rest, Connor retreated and walked to his own villa.

Hel still followed him, quietly speaking just as he was about to enter the door: "Your Highness, your elder brother Prince Norman has been killed, and His Majesty the King is also gravely injured. You must be careful."

Connor’s steps paused briefly.

He knew it already, being a prince was not easy!

The King was dying, the former prince was already dead, wasn’t he next?

These people actually still wanted him to return to the country?!

Really, aren’t they just pulling back a scapegoat on a whim?

Connor cast Hel a cold glance, then turned and entered the villa.

The house was pitch black, without any lights, without warmth, without anyone to speak to him, appearing lonely and cold.

Yes, Natalie Niles had gone back home.

She didn’t need to hide in his house anymore.

This was what he had hoped for the most, but now that she was really gone, his heart felt empty, uncomfortably so.
