After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic

Chapter 616: He’s Not a Monster

Chapter 616: He’s Not a Monster

Alexander Parker clearly understood the nature of that mother and daughter duo; they had been tormenting and bullying Isabella Weaver for many years and would not easily give up.

He called the manager of the chicken farm, instructing him to keep watch over the people, not letting them step outside the farm.

The manager immediately agreed. This chicken farm was owned by Alexander Parker, and he was hired at a high salary due to his rich experience in managing chicken farms.

However, after hanging up, the manager felt somewhat worried: when would Boss Parker pay his salary?

Alexander Parker was indeed broke at the moment, unable to pay salaries. Both the Parker Family’s company and his own had gone bankrupt, and the only business still operating normally was the roast chicken shop.

Since the roast chicken shop didn’t use the Parker Family’s name, outsiders didn’t know that the currently thriving business was owned by the Parkers.

Alexander named the roast chicken shop "Isabella."

This was initially just a small gesture to amuse his cousin, which unexpectedly became his sole support and source of funds.

His Little Isabella always managed to bring him special good luck.

He drove his own broken van, progressing through the night.

To speak of it, all the assets of the Parker Family had been frozen and auctioned. Only this van was too old and worthless, so the court didn’t count it as part of the assets, allowing him to still have a car to use.

As for the nice car Harry Hunter lent him, he gave it to his father.

Although he was a genius, Ryan Parker was still more experienced and well-connected in the business world; he could help the Parkers escape their predicament faster, and he needed a nice car to enhance his appearance.

The ragged van stopped in front of a beautiful and luxurious villa.

Immediately, two bodyguards approached, shouting at him to leave.

Alexander Parker didn’t move, sitting in the car and gazing at the faint light from the villa, lost in thought.

Connor emerged from the darkness, dismissed his subordinates, and asked, "Young Master Parker, what are you doing in front of our Young Master’s place so late at night, instead of sleeping?"

"How is my cousin doing?"

"She’s doing pretty well."

"Is she injured?"

"Minor injuries."

"Is she scared?"

"Of course she’s scared, Austin Winters’ men were all pointing guns at her head!"

Alexander Parker felt a pang in his heart, touching his chest. A bitter smile appeared on his handsome face; indeed, only she could cause a change in his emotions, making him feel happiness or, perhaps, pain.

He leaned against the seatback, keeping his hand on his chest, feeling the threads of pain and sourness, affirming to himself that he was still human, with emotions. He was not a monster.

Connor observed his posture and, for the first time, saw loneliness and sadness in him.

Turns out this lunatic has moments of normalcy too!

He thought he had become a saint—or no, a demon—ignoring all rules and laws of the mortal world!

Connor tapped on his car door and asked softly, "Do you have any news about Natalie Niles?"

"No."

"Really?"

"I don’t lie."

Connor didn’t believe him: "Last time you made a fuss about wanting to see our Young Madam, wasn’t that a lie?"

"That was an exception, done deliberately to gain my cousin’s sympathy."

Alexander Parker recalled pretending to be in pain last time; Isabella Weaver nervously calling him "Cousin" and reaching out to support him, bringing a slight smile to his lips, his voice even turned gentle: "Most of the time, I don’t lie. I like telling the truth. My cousin likes when I tell the truth; if I lie, she gets angry."
