After Bankruptcy, the Billionaire Asked Me to Marry Him!

Chapter 286: Fabricated Boyfriend

Chapter 286: Fabricated Boyfriend

Knock, knock!

A gentle rapping sounded twice before a deep voice emerged from within, "Come in..."

Qin Chu pushed open the door and saw Qin Zhongsong seated behind his desk.

The anxiety that was slightly lifted in her heart only eased a bit.

Although she never wanted to admit that Qin Zhongsong was her father, she had to acknowledge that during the many years since she was brought back to Imperial City, Qin Zhongsong had been meticulously caring for her.

He arranged for her to attend the best schools.

He provided generous funds for holidays and festivals.

When he bought a car for Qin Shuya, he didn’t forget to order one of a similar caliber for her.

Knowing that she liked racing, he bought her a racetrack with a single condition: she was not allowed to become a racer and participate in those dangerous competitions.

Everything else was up to her!

Even if the Qin family members all disliked her, they would still respectfully address her as "Second Miss" in his presence.

There were many moments when Qin Chu felt she somewhat understood why Yao Wanying couldn’t leave him.

Most men are only interested in novelty for a while, and once that fades, they get bored and cast it aside.

But Qin Zhongsong had started off deceiving Yao Wanying, yet he had cherished her for decades.

Even if Qin Zhongsong would never marry her, this unique favoritism was likely enough for Yao Wanying to stay with him for life, until death.

With a sense of helplessness and perplexity, Qin Chu sighed inwardly and stepped forward, "You wanted to see me?"

From behind the desk, Qin Zhongsong lifted his eyelids to glance at Qin Chu, a pause in his gaze and a smile in his eyes, "Chu Chu, you’re becoming more and more like your mother!"

"A young girl should be just as you are now, dressed up all pretty and nice. It makes you happy and your dad happy when he sees you."

He recalled the previous few times she appeared at the Qin family’s home, either in racing attire or casual clothes, which, paired with her cold and aloof face, made her seem especially frosty.

Qin Zhongsong looked at her appreciatively once more, then pushed a bank card toward her, "Although it’s your dad’s birthday, your dad has prepared a gift for you. Aside from racing, I don’t know what else you like, so I thought it’s best to simply give you money. Go buy something for yourself as a gift from dad!"

"Thank you!"

Qin Chu lowered her gaze, "Happy birthday! I don’t know what you like either, so I didn’t prepare a gift. I don’t need this card then; consider it... as if I took the allowance you gave me and bought you a satisfying gift. I won’t take it!"

As if he had anticipated this reaction, Qin Zhongsong shook his head with a smile and pushed the card a bit further toward her, "Keep it."

Knowing that if she refused any further he would start talking again about how Yao Wanying had it tough and how guilty he felt for letting them down for many years, Qin Chu nodded and accepted the card, "Is there... anything else?"

Qin Zhongsong nodded, "You’re also at the age, have you started seeing someone?"

Her gaze halted, unsure of his implication, Qin Chu remained silent.

Qin Zhongsong smiled and said, "If you have a boyfriend, then by all means, enjoy your relationship. In the future, when the time is right, bring him here for me to meet. If you don’t have one..."

Knock, knock.

The study door was knocked upon, and the butler entered with a tray carrying two cups of water.

One was handed to Qin Zhongsong, "It’s time for your medicine!"

The other was offered to Qin Chu, "Miss, some water for you!"

After watching Qin Zhongsong take his medicine, the butler nodded, closed the door, and exited.

Qin Zhongsong continued, "If you don’t have a boyfriend, dad has a couple of suitable candidates you could consider."

As she raised her eyes to meet Qin Zhongsong’s patiently waiting gentle face, Qin Chu nodded, "I do have one, we are dating now."

Her gaze flickered subtly but her expression remained unchanged.

Qin Zhongsong nodded, "How old is he? What does he do? Is he good to you?"

Her heartbeat fluctuating, Qin Chu sipped her water and began to describe her fictitious boyfriend, "He’s 26, met him at a bar. We’ve been dating for just over a month, and he’s quite good to me. As for the future..."

Qin Chu raised her eyes to Qin Zhongsong, "It’s just a relationship at this point, we’re taking it as it comes, and haven’t reached the stage of discussing marriage."

"Do you like him?"

Qin Zhongsong probed further.

Seeing Qin Chu nod, Qin Zhongsong glanced at the two photos in the drawer, "Alright, as long as you like him. Besides, while you’re still young, date more to figure out what type of man is best for you!"

He closed the drawer discreetly and tilted his chin slightly, "You can go now."

Feeling a sigh of relief inside, Qin Chu finally smiled, "Then you should rest early; I’m going downstairs."

Setting down the water cup, Qin Chu turned and exited the study.

She had only taken a few steps when Qin Chu felt something was off.

Her head began to spin dizzyingly.

Her legs felt as if stepping on cotton.

Before Qin Chu could steady herself against the wall, a maid from the Qin family came to support her, "Miss, let me help you back to your room to rest."

"I don’t..."

Bang!

Suddenly, the villa plunged into darkness.
