Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 243 243: Incarnation

Chapter 243 243: Incarnation

Violet looked at the scene in incredulity, her brain not quite understanding how a creature that they had fought within the dungeon was now outside of said dungeon, not to mention how it was now attacking the adventures that were gathered there.

The other girls seemed to share that viewpoint as Susan spoke up. "How is that being there? Shouldn't it be housed within the dungeon!?"

"It should be yeah…" stated Olivia her confusion evident in her voice.

"It is a space creature right? Maybe it can escape by its own power?" Rhyana guessed, although she didn't sound all too sure herself in her guess.

"I don't think it matters much right now though, we need to help them out, those adventures don't look to be handing the attack all too well."

"Luna's right, we need to help them, plus I want to kill that space thing again for what it did to you all." Violet half growled as her gaze was locked into the form of the Incarnation of Space standing at the back of the army of beasts.

The other girls quickly agreed and they all gathered in front of the portal. They would use their standard formation, Olivia in the front, Rhyana and Luna flanking her whilst Susan and Violet would take up the rear guard. They would be going into an active battle ground so a number of spells and buffs were cast as the girls geared up to dive right into the fight.

Odrin had been enjoying his time relaxing in the cave outside of the dungeon. It made a nice change of pace from his usual missions that involved delving deep into the depths and investigating monster nests and other dangerous zones that surrounded the city.

Being a dwarf he had always found the solitude of the deep caves to be quite comforting, so to be able to camp out in a spacious cavern devoid of beasts or monsters was quite the nice outing for him.

However that all changed when the first couple of adventure groups returned after only a few days.

Given that the mission was supposed to last for an entire week Odrin had not expected many, if any of the adventures to return after such a short time. Yet when he saw the state of those bedraggled people he quickly understood that the danger of this dungeon had been drastically understated.

All of the adventures that had returned so far were those in the very early stages of tier 4. At the start of this expedition there had been 26 people in the early stage, right now Odrin had 16 of them gathered with him. Given that every group entered with 5 members except for one of the elite teams he already knew that causalities had happened.

These 16 people came from 5 separate groups, meaning that 9 adventures had died within that first group, including some of the stronger members of the teams.

This alone would be a massive disaster, to loose so many powerful individuals was a blow to both the guild and the city. For this to happen on an expedition led by Odrin was nothing short of a nightmare for the ranger.

Yet when he began to listen to their stories he started to become worried for a different reason. Every one of these teams that had retreated claimed to have been forced to flee when they encountered a boss that could wield the space element.

Whilst not exactly a unheard of speciality, it was incredibly rare and dangerous. To encounter such a being on just the first floor was a worrying sign.

He only learnt of the beings name when yet another team emerged, this one consisting of 4 adventures. They had managed to kill the boss in question yet had lost a member in the fight, they had chosen to claim their rewards and leave so as to not suffer any more losses.

It was then that Odrin learnt that the creature was called the Incarnation of Space, that worried him and when he learnt that the creature had apparently been reduced in level during the fight he was truly rattled.

Being a veteran adventure near the 5th tier Odrin had learnt quite a lot of interesting things. One such thing was about a rare classification of creatures, one of those classifications was the Incarnation type of creature.

These beings encapsulated the concept of their name, this could vary in a number of ways, from a particularly strong elemental to a biological being that had an unnaturally high affinity to a particular element. But without fail these beings were strong, incredibly strong.

Yet as worrying as that may be, to Odrin this only meant that he would have to report that this dungeon was not suitable for people in the early stages of tier 4, that it would have to be restricted to people of higher strength. Saddly he had underestimated the danger that an incarnation that could control space itself could deal.

Odrin first noticed that something was wrong when he felt a powerful surge of mana from the far side of the cavern from the camp. He was instantly on alert, as were the other adventures.

Yet when he saw the scene of a crack in space swiftly followed by the appearance of those same beings that had ambushed them on their way to the dungeon, he had a worrying thought run through his head.

When he then saw one more being emerge from the rift in space which caused the nearby adventures to cry out in horror he knew that something had gone terribly, terribly wrong.

Then he felt the power of the being that emerged at the back. It was powerful, very powerful.

Odrin could tell that the creature was lower in level than himself, yet the presence that it emitted eclipsed his own. Then their was the army of creatures in front of the boss, before they had been between levels 70 and 90, a strong force but easily dealt with by their elite group. Now however, Odrin guessed that not a single one of the nearly 100 strong army was below tier 4.

A grimace adorned Odrin face as he gazed out at the army of creatures that looked to be forming crude ranks on the opposite side of the cavern from the adventures. He glanced at the forces that he had on his side with a frown of worry.

With the influx of adventures over the last day the number of people he had to stand besides him numbered 23. Of that only 4 were in the mid stage, the rest being early stage tier 4.

The odds did not look to be in the adventures favour. He quickly glanced back at the dungeon portal, a fervent hope that more adventures would be able to see their situation and come to their aid, particularly that more of the late stage lords would arrive. For as things stood for Odin right now he was not sure of their groups chance against the army that was only now moving towards them with a feral hunger in their eyes.
