Chapter 81

"So, Shin left?"

Shara Lansra, a sister of the Church, thought she'd sooner believe someone claiming to have seen a bear flying in the sky as she asked Erika for confirmation.

At the very least, it seems such monsters exist in Faltarl.

"Yes."

Erika "Longdagger," a companion who became a comrade through monster hunting and other joint actions, and whom Shara considers a friend, calmly sips her tea with elegance and nods.

As expected of a former upper noble's daughter, every single one of her gestures is beautiful.

Shara almost tilts her head at Erika's composed demeanor.

Since returning from the forest in the Demonlands, for some reason, she had been ordered by the bishop to meet with her senior sister once a day, leaving her no time to visit the Longdagger household, but what on earth had happened in the meantime?

According to what she heard, Erika had faced the unreasonable fate of being exiled from her homeland on false charges.

Unable to accept that, Shin had apparently abandoned his life as a proper noble to flee with Erika, or so she was told.

For some reason, it was strange that both of them insisted their status as a married couple was a farce.

Shara convinced herself that, well, at least Shin still seemed to be a noble, so such an excuse was probably necessary, and she accepted that the two were lying about not truly being married.

But now, Shin was leaving Erika's side, and for a whole week at that.

Visiting the Longdagger household after a long time, Shara could hardly believe the shocking news.

She'd sooner believe someone claiming there was a cow standing and dancing.

At the very least, such things apparently exist in Faltarl.

Even Shara didn't think that just because they were a married couple, they had to be together every single moment of every day, but this was *this* couple.

She could imagine half a day or even a full day apart, but a whole week felt genuinely hard to fathom.

"Um... is Erika going to be okay?"

This question partly referred to Erika's situation of being targeted for her life, but mostly it meant, is she okay without Shin by her side?

After all, Shara had seen Erika when she ran out of magical energy in the forest of the Demonlands.

That was impossible to handle; just remembering it made her mouth feel sweet, as if her stomach acid had turned to honey.

"What are you talking about?"

Seeing Erika's exasperated expression, Shara felt a slight sense of relief.

It seemed she had worried too much.

"Being apart for just a week or so, of course I'll be fine... though I'll miss him."

"Huh?"

"What is it?"

It seemed her excessive worrying had caused her to hear hallucinations.

After all, when she claimed to have heard the voice of God, everyone at the Church looked at her with pity, so she needed to pull herself together.

Seeing Erika's calm demeanor, Shara tightened her resolve, wondering why she was the one panicking.

"Shin said it was for the sake of his fantasy (ideal). If that's the case, I won't stop him. If he says he felt relieved and stopped moving forward because his ideal (promise for one year) was by his side, or that he had been held back, then this temporary separation must be inevitable... I want to see him."

"Hm?"

"What is it?"

Did something strange happen? As Erika's gaze seemed to ask this, Shara tilted her head slightly and poked at her ear.

It's fine, nothing's clogged.

Seeing Erika look at her with curious eyes as she suddenly started digging in her ear, Shara regained her composure.

Anyway, the fact that she was worried about Erika was genuine.

She wasn't good at healing magic, excelled at attack magic typically used by adventurers, and on top of that, was best at destructive magic, which made her stand out a bit at the Church.

To be blunt, she had no friends her age within the Church.

Well, to be honest, she didn't have many outside the Church either.

Feeling suddenly sad for some reason, Shara spoke to Erika.

"If you ever feel lonely, please tell me anytime, okay? I'll come running right away."

They were friends, so this level of meddling should be allowed.

"Honestly."

Erika smiled with a troubled expression.

"If it comes to that, I'll rely on you first... it's painful."

"Huh?"

"What is it?"

Shara poked at her ear again to check if sugar was somehow stuffed in there.
