When Zhang Lingying met his gaze in that instant, she felt a bit nervous, worried about interrupting his meeting, and intended to leave quickly. However, before her brain could execute the decision, Lu Jing had already walked over to her.

As he reached out to open the glass door, she seemed to hear him say, "Have someone else lead the meeting, I have something to do now."

Before she could react, Lu Jing was standing right in front of her, "Are you here to see me?"

He wasn’t even sure if she was there to see him, yet he rushed out like this. Is this CEO being a bit too capricious?

"President Lu, Miss Zhang is here to deliver food to you. I gave her my business card yesterday, and she contacted me before coming over. Since you were in a meeting at that time, I didn’t have the chance to notify you," the assistant explained on the side, carefully concealing the fact that he had revealed Lu Jing’s health condition to Zhang Lingying.

Only then did Lu Jing notice that Zhang Lingying had been holding a lunchbox in her hand the entire time. He paused for a moment.

"I was on vacation these past few days with nothing much to do, so I practiced my cooking a bit. If you don’t mind, could you help me try the dishes?" Zhang Lingying bit her lip and said softly.

Afraid he might discover something, she kept her head down, avoiding his gaze.

"Alright." Lu Jing agreed very straightforwardly, reaching out to take the lunchbox from her hand and, in one smooth motion, pulling her hand and leading her into his office.

It was the first time Zhang Lingying had come to the Re Group. She curiously took in her surroundings.

Lu Jing’s office was spacious, but the decor was not complicated.

The minimalist design outlined a decisive personal style, yet the black and white tones made it seem a bit cold.

Lu Jing stood in front of the black sofa, opening each layer of the lunchbox she brought and placing them on the glass coffee table in front of the sofa.

A meat dish, a vegetable dish, and a small bowl of thick, well-cooked soup.

The nutrition was well-balanced, and it looked vibrant and appetizing.

"Are these all for me?" Lu Jing arranged the food on the table and noticed that there was only one set of utensils in the dining box, raising an eyebrow in surprise.

"I already ate before I came. This is just extra. You should eat it while it’s hot; don’t mind me," Zhang Lingying retracted her observing gaze and explained to him.

Lu Jing’s eyes flickered slightly as he looked at the delicious dishes in front of him, suddenly understanding that practicing her culinary skills was just an excuse. The young girl was worried he wouldn’t eat and came specifically to deliver meals to him.

Just like last night, she was clearly worried about him, yet she used the excuse of a nightmare to carry her blanket to the sofa to sleep.

Lu Jing felt a slight ache in his heart as he stared at the meal in front of him, lowering his eyes, the look in them quite dark.

What he hated seeing most were others’ sympathy and pity.

Yet he couldn’t resist the kindness she exuded. Even wickedly thinking that, in a way, it was good; even if it was just sympathy, at least he could have her care for him a little more.

He wanted to claim all her care for himself...

Lu Jing took a deep breath, suppressing the thoughts surging in his mind, then turned to look at the person behind him, "What would you like to drink? I’ll have the secretary pour you a glass."

"I’m not thirsty. You eat while it’s hot; don’t worry about me. I can take care of myself." Zhang Lingying finished speaking, sensing she might have let something slip. She quickly explained, "You need to give me feedback on my cooking once you’re done. Cold food might affect the taste."

"Alright, then I’ll have the secretary pour you a glass of water." Lu Jing walked to his desk and pressed the intercom.

Soon, someone brought a glass of warm water for Zhang Lingying.
