Chapter 664: All Kinds of Excuses, Impossible to Guard Against
Then she turned around, her back facing him, and waited for him to change.
After collecting his clothes, she promptly reminded him to take a hot shower, while she took his clothes to wash.
Once the clothes were dried, she would let him wear them again.
Having been on the road the entire day, both were somewhat tired. After eating a little, Ji Weitian started yawning incessantly.
"There are blankets in the room. I’m heading to sleep first. You should sleep early too."
Before their arrival, they hadn’t expected to encounter such a situation.
They reached an isolated guesthouse with no other houses around, so they had no choice but to intrude.
When Ji Weitian fetched a blanket from the closet, she already thought of leaving some money before departing the next day as a fee for using the blanket.
The two rooms downstairs were spacious, sparsely furnished, which made the rooms appear somewhat empty.
Out of respect, Ji Weitian didn’t scrutinize the room’s contents too much, and got ready for bed as soon as she slipped under the blankets.
Entering the room, she was already so exhausted that her eyelids were fighting each other, but after getting in bed, she found herself unable to sleep and turned restlessly.
When she sat up in bed, she rubbed her face, bewildered.
Doubting if it was because she was not used to the bed, but after thinking it over, she realized it was because Qin Nanyu was no longer there...
It wasn’t that she couldn’t sleep without him.
She just found it strange.
Normally, at Nanpo Apartment, Qin Nanyu would find all sorts of excuses to stick with her, citing discomfort or inability to sleep, fear of the dark...an endless parade of excuses that was hard to guard against.
But today, they were in a strange place.
The empty suburbs were uninhabited and it was raining outside.
He had been caught in the rain on the way, and given his usual behavior, he would have had a perfect excuse to act spoiled towards her. Yet, he just watched as she returned to her room and didn’t come to join her.
Something about that felt off to Ji Weitian.
But since Qin Nanyu didn’t come, she couldn’t very well go next door and ask him, "Why didn’t you come to take advantage of me today?"
After struggling with herself, Ji Weitian couldn’t help but get out of bed.
She silently left the room and had just reached the opposite door when she glimpsed someone lying on the couch in the living room from the corner of her eye.
Startled, she turned and walked over, only to find that the person on the couch was none other than Qin Nanyu.
His tall frame was curled up on the couch, his face flushed and his entire body trembling.
"Qin Nanyu..." Ji Weitian hurried forward, grasping his arm with concern and quickly feeling his forehead after noticing his unusually high body temperature.
He had a fever!
"Qin Nanyu, wake up; you have a serious fever and can’t just sleep here."
Ji Weitian’s voice only made the person on the couch open his eyes briefly; seeing it was her, Qin Nanyu groggily leaned into her embrace and drifted back to sleep.
He was truly delirious from the fever.
Ji Weitian was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.
The area was desolate; the city was too far to entertain the idea of returning, especially if his condition worsened on the way - then she’d be completely helpless.
After much consideration, Ji Weitian decided to stay.
With effort, she woke up Qin Nanyu, supported him into her room, and helped him lie down. Then she turned to search the house for fever-reducing medicine.
She searched everywhere but couldn’t find a medicine box in the guesthouse.
Without any medicine, she returned to the room, wrung out a wet towel, and decided to try to reduce his fever with a physical method.
