Chapter 446: The Qin Family’s Jealous King, Jealousy Online (2)

Catching a glimpse of Qin Nanyu’s somber face, the corners of her mouth curled in an enigmatic smile.

"Another day then, you confirm your vacation time and give me a call. I’ll pick you and the kids up."

"I’ll walk you out," said Ji Weitian, handing the two children over to the butler and heading out herself, stopping by the door to wait for Leng Jian, seemingly refusing to give him the chance to decline.

Leng Jian had helped her a lot that day. If it hadn’t been for his presence, she might not have been able to stay calm upon learning the truth about the past, instead of dragging Luo Xinyan down to hell with her.

Over the years, it was also due to Leng Jian that she had been able to comfortably hide in the background to conduct her research, without having to face the world’s turmoil.

To Ji Weitian, Leng Jian was like her last line of defense, creating a safe and comfortable environment for her and her daughter.

Their relationship was like that of friends, and yet they were more like family.

"Thank you."

As the two approached the gate of the Qin Family Villa, Ji Weitian couldn’t help but speak out when they were unobserved.

Leng Jian’s expression remained indifferent, his gaze scanning the layout of the Qin Family Villa in a detached manner.

Suddenly hearing Ji Weitian’s words, he glanced at her, his eyes gentle, a slight smile playing on his lips.

With an indulgent lift of his hand, he patted the top of her head.

"What’s with you today? Saying thanks all the time—you never seemed sentimental before?"

"..."

Stung by his comment, Ji Weitian realized she had indeed been saying thank you a lot that day and pulled a face.

"Maybe I’ve just realized how truly lucky I am, what with having Yaoyao, Ruirui, and a good friend like you who’s always been there to help me. From now on, I won’t tease you for being long-winded."

Ji Weitian raised three fingers in a pledge.

Leng Jian laughed softly, his warm smile radiating all around him.

Catching something out of the corner of his eye, he lightly grasped Ji Weitian’s fingers, pulling her closer and embracing her.

"I’m not as great as you make me out to be, but Qin Nanyu is unfathomable. You might come up short against him, so be careful. I’ll be staying in the country for a while, so call me anytime."

The brief exchange lasted only a few seconds before he let go of Ji Weitian.

He cooly waved his hand, opened the car door, and got inside.

He then turned around and drove away from the Qin Family Villa.

Ji Weitian stood there, dumbstruck, touching the back of her head deep in thought about what Leng Jian had just said, sensing there was a deeper meaning to his words.

Before she could figure it out, a sudden chill crept up her back—ominous and sinister.

Just as Ji Weitian was about to turn around, a gloomy voice already sounded in her ear.

It carried a trace of resentment.

"He’s already far away, haven’t you stared enough? Do you want to run after him for another hug?"

"..."

The unexpected voice startled Ji Weitian.

Seeing the person behind her, she blinked, "Qin Nanyu, weren’t you making a phone call? How come you’re out here too?"

Qin Nanyu’s face was dark; he could neither accept nor reject the question.

Could he admit that he had followed her out because he feared she might be swayed by Leng Jian’s few words and run off with him in the heat of the moment?

Or should he confess that he didn’t trust the deeply scheming Leng Jian and had come out to check, only to actually witness them embracing intimately, now left with a stifled frustration in his chest that couldn’t be vented?

He was an adult; he was magnanimous.

A hug between friends of the opposite sex is just a form of etiquette. Would he care?
