Capítulo 1533: Chapter 277: Deceit and Ambush!

Golden Plains, Karma Knight’s Domain.

There are a lot of Magical Beasts on the Golden Plains, with numerous nests of magical beasts settling only in the local Abyssal Hole ecosystem. Due to the complex terrain, large-scale development is challenging, so most resource extraction is conducted by smaller township units like Knight Manors.

Karma Knight’s Domain is one of the oldest Knight Manors in the Golden Plains’ history. It once flourished because two Mithril mines were discovered in the nearby caves, making it one of the region’s wealthiest domains.

Knight Karma is exceptionally strong. His private armed forces are comparable to those of official Imperial Nobility, consisting of experienced warriors from combat with Magical Beasts on the Golden Plains. His castle is a small fortress considered a “safe” landmark by travelers.

But now, this fortress has encountered an enemy it absolutely cannot withstand.

The Demonic Army of the Fiery Flame Land.

“Hold the walls! Use the cannons!”

“The cannons are useless!”

“Help! These monsters can teleport! They’re behind us?!”

“Their teleportation range is less than five hundred meters. Backup squad, move up! Guard Squad, follow me into battle!”

The gruesome sounds of battle echo around this small fortress. If it were facing typical Magical Beast attacks or bandit raids, they could easily defend and counterattack.

But facing a demon army that can easily bypass defenses, ignore conventional cannon attacks, move swiftly, and even cross walls through the Domain of Void, this elite town guard squad is being wiped out like a receding tide.

Their firepower is undeniable: Karma’s Domain has its own Alchemical Cannons and also new arms supported by Silverpeak Domain, with heat beams and Magnetic Storm Mines flashing around the walls.

However, the weaponry backed by Silverpeak Domain and that which refused Silverpeak’s aid are entirely different grades.

Despite the sky being filled with flying beams and electromagnetic sparks exploding in the air, very few demons are actually harmed—the demons are too fast, their eyes can’t keep up, let alone aim and shoot?

Conversely, Karma’s Domain’s Guard Squad either suddenly goes mad, breaking ranks and rushing alone into the demon horde only to be crushed—quite literally crushed—or is easily eliminated by the firepower of the Fiery Flame side.

They are mentally disturbed by the demons, utterly insane.

Before long, the entire fortress is breached, the towns surrounding the fortress slaughtered to extinction, locals wanting to stay behind all dead or injured.

Their deaths are miserable, most suffering great pain before dying. Some have their arms and legs twisted off while alive, bleeding to death like wrung cloths; others watch their loved ones die horribly, shedding blood tears, and then being beheaded themselves.

Only then did they understand that the power of the Demon Legion far exceeded their imagination. The reason this “defensive war” played out rather than their immediate destruction was simply because the demons needed their despair, needed them to feel hope yet sink into the Abyss.

Knight Karma is still alive… leading the last remnants in the deepest part of the fortress.

This was originally a warehouse, now modified into the last bastion for resistance. The solid warehouse iron doors can even withstand cannon fire, and the Spirit Energy Array protecting the Mithril can block the demons’ Void Jump.

Yet, being trapped here is no different from waiting for death.

Some followers of Knight Karma, now desperate, and soldiers on the verge of collapse can faintly hear the nearby screams. They’re almost in chaos; if not for Knight Karma still holding mental strength to maintain order, they might self-destruct even without a demon attack.

“If only I had agreed to Silverpeak Domain’s terms earlier…”

Honestly, Knight Karma regrets it somewhat. He could have followed Silverpeak Domain’s advice and had the chance to evacuate the Golden Plains. But he believed too much in his fortress’s sturdiness, thinking the demons’ target must be only Silverpeak, having nothing to do with their remote manor; thus, he refused to leave.

But who knew demons would kill their way through, even stomp on passing plains wolves to death? These creatures cared nothing about what was remote or not; what they wanted was rivers of blood. Anything breathing had to be killed.

All flesh and soul and curse will become the fertilizer of Cursed Soil.

In this respect, they are extremely fair.

“Ha, is this terminal reflection?”

Amidst random thoughts, Knight Karma chuckled bleakly, knowing this time certain death awaits. Outside, the demon army is beginning to damage the iron doors.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The demons began their strong attack, the iron door bulging, an Inferior Demon bull ramming against the door repeatedly.

Knight Karma raised his sword, even facing death he wished to die with a sword in hand, never despairing, never becoming fodder for the demons.

Regarding those domain residents who died because of his decision…

“I was wrong. Sorry…”

At the instant the iron door was breached, the knight roared, drew his sword forward, “Die, demons!”

And to greet him were countless claws and eyes emerging from the darkness.

At this point, the battle, whose outcome was already decided, began and ended.
