Chapter 1195 571: Whole Pig Feast (Part 3)

While Qin Huai and the others were watching TV until after 10 PM in the front room, Grandma Jiang and Wang Xiulian finished their work and came to entertain the guests.

Because their culinary skills were only at the level of ordinary housewives, they could only help with some simple side dishes. The key to the full pig feast was the pig itself, and handling pork was relatively challenging, so it was beyond their capacity. They were more suited to being companions than helpers.

As soon as they entered the room, they brought news of the delayed meal — 18 dishes definitely couldn't be prepared at once, so the dinner wouldn't be ready until 7 PM at the earliest.

Wang Xiulian, experienced as she was, told the three that eating at 7 PM was better, as they'd be hungrier and enjoy the meal more. She particularly advised Qin Huai and the others that even if they were hungry, they should just drink tea and eat fewer sunflower seeds; otherwise, if they filled up on seeds, they wouldn't have enough room for the full pig feast later and that would be a shame.

As professional socializers, Wang Xiulian and Grandma Jiang brought along some exciting gossip about the Jiang family.

Grandma Jiang was responsible for talking about her husband and son, and Wang Xiulian also spoke of her husband and son.

Grandma Jiang recounted how she and Jiang Weiguo raised five plump sons over the years, feeding them mouthful by mouthful into the stout men they were today. Yet, out of those five unlucky sons, only Jiang Jiankang had inherited Jiang Weiguo's culinary skills; and even then, Jiang Jiankang wasn't the most gifted, which had left old Jiang Weiguo feeling quite frustrated.

Besides having five disappointing sons, Mr. Jiang also had four disappointing grandsons and two disappointing granddaughters.

If the five sons had at least studied a bit, the four unlucky grandsons and two unlucky granddaughters couldn't even be said to have learned anything.

There was one exception, who was the young Jiang Feng helping today; he had decent basics, passable knife skills, some talent, but he wasn't interested in pursuing cooking.

These four unlucky grandsons were each bookish, with better academic achievements than the last.

Over the years, villagers often consulted Jiang Weiguo for tips on grooming grandsons, asking how he managed to nurture four grandsons who were so fond of studying, with such good grades, which left Jiang Weiguo feeling quite frustrated.

Originally, because Jiang Weiguo couldn't stay idle, he quite enjoyed catering outside banquets. However, in recent years, feeling frustrated, he no longer bothered with banquets and just stayed home raising pigs.

Grandma Jiang boasted that the pigs were raised so well that when Qin Huai and the others ate the full pig feast tonight, they would appreciate the value of Da Hua.

In comparison to Grandma Jiang's exciting storytelling, Wang Xiulian's narration was more mundane, serving as supplementary information.

With enthusiasm, Wang Xiulian informed Qin Huai and the others that their family ran a small healthy eatery in Z City, which was considered a hidden gem, and if they visited Z City, they could eat there for free.

Yunzhong Restaurant, which claimed to have been open for 10 years and hidden in the corner of the streets, was fake; but the healthy eatery was real.

At least the healthy eatery had been truly open for over ten years.

From Wang Xiulian's story, Qin Huai could infer that although Jiang Jiankang inherited Jiang Weiguo's skills, he certainly hadn't surpassed him, which explained Jiang Weiguo's growing frustration over the years.

Not only did he fail to save enough to return to Beiping and buy Taifeng Building, but he also hadn't cultivated outstanding sons and grandsons to inherit his craft and carry on the Jiang family's legacy; it wasn't surprising he felt discouraged.

Listening to the latter part, Qin Huai felt that Xia Mubing's thoughts made sense. Given Jiang Weiguo's current situation, Xia Mubing finding him and taking him to meet the Li family to reclaim Taifeng Building might make Jiang Weiguo even more frustrated.

With no successor, what use was it to reclaim an empty shell of a restaurant?

Wang Xiulian and Grandma Jiang chatted incessantly from day to night, drinking countless pots of tea, continuing until Jiang Feng ran into the front room.

"Mom, Grandma, Uncle Shi, Brother Qin, Sister An, the full pig feast is ready. Grandpa asked me to call you over for dinner."
