Chapter 2702 - 2703: Duannian’s Birth Father
Chapter 2702 - 2703: Duannian’s Birth Father
Bai Ruozhu took the opportunity to speak with Ling Chen, "It seems like the Right Protector has something on his mind?"
Ling Chen didn’t lift his head, "No."
Wenyu hurried to explain, "The Right Protector has special abilities, so it’s generally not easy for him to look people directly in the eye; it’s also a sign of respect to guests."
"Oh? All Merfolk have special abilities, I wonder what the Right Protector’s is?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
Suddenly, Ling Chen looked up and stared directly at her, "Don’t you already know?"
Bai Ruozhu felt a wave of dizziness, but fortunately, her Divine Sense was strong, and she quickly steadied her mind.
"As expected, it doesn’t work on you." Ling Chen murmured and continued with his meal.
Wenyu showed a surprised expression but quickly hid it and enthusiastically introduced some of the specialty dishes.
After finishing the meal, the group roamed around for a while before returning to their residence; it seemed the Merfolk only sent Wenyu to engage them, with no further actions taken.
Bai Ruozhu thought it through carefully, although there might be a few elders among the Merfolk, this method to break the Curse was surely temporary, or perhaps it only worked on a small scale, hence why they allowed the Jiuli Clan to enter, hoping to find other ways.
Yet, they refused to speak directly, whether due to some deceitful intentions or fear that the Jiuli Clan would realize their weaknesses.
As the group leisurely strolled, unexpectedly a middle-aged man staggered over, drunk.
"Wenyu, where is the great elder? You can’t treat me like this!" He grabbed Wenyu’s collar, appearing very agitated.
"Liuxing, what are you going to do? Go back to your Room and rest!" Wenyu said with displeasure.
"Rest, rest, what’s the point of resting? My family is gone, I’m the only one left, what’s the point of living!" He shouted.
Bai Ruozhu looked closely and suddenly remembered this man must be over thirty years old; he wasn’t an elder, yet survived unaffected by the Merfolk’s Curse, he must have some special trait, right? What did his words mean?
Suddenly, she glimpsed Duannian beside her, trembling violently, his eyes glaring fiercely at the middle-aged man named Liuxing.
Her heart tightened; could Liuxing be Duannian’s father?
Looking closely again, the two indeed bore some resemblance.
Bai Ruozhu quickly gave Jiang Yichun a look, signaling him to pay attention to Duannian’s reaction; now wasn’t the time to reveal their emotions.
Jiang Yichun quietly held onto Duannian and gently shook his head.
Duannian’s blood-red eyes slowly regained clarity, finally lowering his head and silently following behind, as if seeing nothing.
Fortunately, Wenyu, held by Liuxing, didn’t notice anything else.
He pushed Liuxing away forcefully, angrily saying, "Can’t you see I’m entertaining guests? If you have issues, go find the great elder yourself, stop bothering me."
"If I could see him, would I need to find you?" Liuxing seemed far away, his eyes gazing into the distance, "You promised me, how can you be so untrustworthy? My son is gone, my wife is gone, what’s the point of living?"
Wenyu’s heart tightened, afraid Liuxing might say something, quickly raising his hand to strike Liuxing’s neck, knocking him unconscious.
"He gets rowdy after drinking too much, don’t take it to heart, I’ll take him back." Wenyu said with an awkward smile.
"No problem, Left Guardian can go ahead, we’ll return and rest soon." Bai Ruozhu said.
Once the man left, Duannian clenched his fists tightly, the joints cracking.
"Could that person be..." Fo Lanying also guessed.
Bai Ruozhu shook her head at her, "Let’s leave."
Fo Lanying quickly shut her mouth.
"This Merfolk Island is rather dull, I truly don’t understand what meaning there is for those Merfolk to be trapped on the Island all their lives." Gao Zhou sighed.
"Perhaps they can’t go elsewhere." Bai Ruozhu murmured.
Once they returned to the Room, free from surveillance, Duannian collapsed powerlessly into a chair.
"That was my father, from his words, my mother has evidently died now, they abandoned me back then; I should not be sad, but my heart feels incredibly heavy." He said, tears streaming down his face.
Jiang Yichun patted his shoulder, "After all, she was your biological mother, feeling sad is normal, don’t be too hard on yourself."
Duannian cried for a bit, then tried hard to wipe his tears dry, "I’m okay, I won’t show weakness in front of them. But from his words, back then the great elder promised them something, but didn’t fulfill it."
"I think the promise was to help them both lift the Curse, let them live past thirty, but something went wrong, only he survived, yet living feels too lonely." Bai Ruozhu said.
Duannian laughed, but his laugh was uglier than crying, "Serves him right, it’s good he’s living, let him taste loneliness."
Bai Ruozhu felt a pang in her heart too...
Duannian was driven away at five, and during these eleven years, loneliness must have been his companion.
Fortunately, he met Wa Wei, found someone he loved, the heavens were fair.
"Everyone, go back and rest; it’s not good to gather too long together, lest they become suspicious." Jiang Yichun said.
The group left one after another, and Jiang Yichun, somewhat concerned, took Bai Ruozhu’s hand, "Tonight, I’ll be with you."
Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment and nodded; she couldn’t take others into Space, but she could hide him with her, taking him along was no trouble.
Fo Lanying turned her head looking out the window, ah, ah, ah, she really didn’t want to be a third wheel, and she missed her Xiaoyuan so much, when could she leave this ghostly place?
The night was as quiet as water, Bai Ruozhu used some medications to confuse the observers, then found Jiang Yichun to stealthily head toward Ayi’s home.
The lights at Ayi’s home were off, but Bai Ruozhu knew she and her husband must be awake.
She and Jiang Yichun jumped into the yard, she lightly knocked on the door, "It’s me."
Ayi’s voice rang out from the doorway, showing she had been waiting right there.
"Come around to the back window." She whispered.
Bai Ruozhu took Jiang Yichun and jumped to the back window, entering the Room from the backyard.
Ayi and her husband hadn’t slept, seeing Jiang Yichun made them a bit afraid.
"Don’t be scared, he can be trusted." She said as she returned the clothes Ayi lent her and the wooden tub.
Ayi took it back, whispering, "Thank you for coming."
Beside her, her husband Ali tugged on her, and the two suddenly knelt on the ground.
Bai Ruozhu was startled, quickly helping Ayi, and Jiang Yichun assisted Ali. Yet, with red eyes, they refused to rise.
"Please save our daughter Yunyun, we know it’s too dangerous, but we have no other choice," Ayi cried.
Bai Ruozhu made a shush gesture, "Don’t cry, you’ll be heard."
Ayi tried to hold back her tears, glancing at the little girl sleeping on the bed, she seemed only five or six years old, wasn’t the saintly role a good position? Yet it frightened them so?
